I have a blueberry 163 Orc with the DX dye in Star plastic. I thought that the Nightshift Orcs were pre-star (aka special blend) however this one has a "☆O" mark. Star wasn't even an official Innova plastic yet.

There are a few stories online about Nightshift Orcs so I'm trying to figure out what I have.

**edit**

I think I figured it out. It looks like there was a later run of Nighshift Orcs. That explains why I have a "☆O".

Only 133 made with this Night Shift Blue Star plastic, which makes it stiffer and fly more stable than previous runs. Dave Dunipace of Innova has this to say about these special Orcs: "We are doing our first tests of the stabilizing process on Destroyers. The ones we tested were very stable. We were throwing them in the wind with seemingly no effect by the wind. We wanted to see if other throwers would get the same results with the other test shots. From our perspective, we got more speed, more carry, and more stability. We had to throw them anhyzer. I would appreciate any feedback from those who purchase these discs. Our initial tests were excellent."

Thanks for your help everybody!

It looks like there are two runs of Nighshifts. Pre Star and Post Star. Can anyone confirm?

The first night shift orcs were champ plastic orcs run during the night shift (hence the name). The latest star run is just a stabilized star orc which Innova called "night shift" to confuse everyone.

Seriously though it's kinda a shady marketing thing where they use a phrase already in place to market a new product.

Yeah, that's stupid.

In other news the USPS released this "throwback" stamp with an upside-down plane. The philatelic society is going apechit.

I lied about the stamp thing. :\

I don't remember what was so good about the original night shift orcs, I think they were more stable also maybe.

Does innova even have a night shift? This sounds like an urban legend to me.

I also thought that was pretty weird. Is there really an insatiable appetite for discs that requires 24 hour production?

According to what JustSayin' told me, they were made on a second shift at one of the innova plants. they were experimenting with different plastics and out came the night shift discs. they are slightly more overstable than the original and hella grippy... almost tacky

this is where they came up with the Groove.

Someone said 'Oh the monarch is so awesome let's make a BIGGER one.'

lulz... they need a disc with a lumpy, convex rim next...

wait, what?

they already did that??

aw, snap!

I thought the original NS Orcs were run after hours by some players who mixed the pro plastic in with the champ. They were grippier, yet stable and crushers were into them big time. It was when the ROC collecting really got huge and they started running the early one in Feb, then another in Oct at Winthrop. The batch of Rocs that followed were called "special blend" and supposedly were the same as the NS plastic. The old "special editions" were sometimes like NS or Star, before Star became an official run. I loved those Sblend Rocs, but they were not popular with collectors. I think it was the old school looking stamp that looked more like an Eagle.
