the beast i bought is too fast for me. my weenie arm can't get the thing to turn, it just goes off into a hyzer and keeps going and going and going.

from what i've gathered on here, i need a slower, lighter, (and perhaps more understable) disc for my drives.

i'm kinda partial to innova, so i was thinking a TL around 165 (the beast weighs 172, or so the sharpie on the back says  )

thoughts?

Not sure what's in your bag, but if you are looking for something that will go fairly straight if you release flat and level....Sidewinder, Roadrunner, and I would suggest trying the 160's range in grams. If you release normally with a slight anhyzer, then yeah, a TL would be a good choice, again try something in the 160's.

I'd be inclined to get a 160 Cobra and/or maybe a Valkyrie in a lighter weight. They are both easy to throw and you can literally play a round with nothing but a Cobra and not lose much.

I've heard that lighter weights suck in the wind so don't get any driver below 170.......that said I do have lighter weight drivers..... also I love the beast and I do not have a superpowerful arm ( 220-270)..... I've discovered flat is your friend with the beast..... and i like the way it hyzers.....;)

I also love my cobra.....very controllable.....have 2..... and I love my Valk... one of the easist disc to throw and get something out of it....;)

I agree with the Valkyrie, it is a bit slower.

I would suggest a Leopard or a Cheetah if your looking for a fairway type driver.

The sidewinder/Valkrye would be decent choices for more of a distance throw.

Probably somthing in area of 165 weight. I throw all of my drivers in the 160's and have not had a wind issue, just select the right disc for the job and wind can help as much as hurt.

I'll also recommend sticking with non-high end plastic discs. The DX Cheetah, DX Ace or Polaris LS will be good choices for controlable discs off the bat or the DX Gazelle or D Cyclone will be good if you don't mind starting with something that starts off a bit beefier and beats in well. It might be worth getting one (or more) from each category.

I've noticed a huge difference between a 150 and 172 Beast. They fly like two completely different discs. Yes 150s do suck in headwind, but downwind they are good. The Orc is ok in headwinds, or a Firebird is better.

The wind is something to learn; you have to throw a diff release angle, for diff wind directions. weights can help but control is key. Back to subject I think you would like a Cheetah or an Eagle-L.

i have a TL and a beast. my TL is a 168 and i love it, it has a nice fade at the end of flight. as for my 172 beast i toss that thing tomahawk all day. that thing cuts through trees like nothing. almost aced a hole last weekend with it, hit the top of the basket though.

Even though you dissed my record on another thread I will chime in and give my advice.
DX plastic for drivers is a terrible idea if there is more than 1 tree and 1 rock on the course you play. One full speed drive into a tree from close range and you might as well go buy a new disc. (although DX is a good idea for rocs and putters).
Your idea of a 165 TL is a great one. Getting a Valkyrie in the same weight range would be another great choice.
A lot of people stated that light weight discs are tough to play with in the wind. However, if you learn your plastic and understand how it flies in various conditions you can make anything work (as long as it's not a DX driver that's been smashed into a few trees from close range).

I disagree with the DX statement. DX breaks in MUCH faster then champ plastic but with that being said it still is good for quite sometime in my opinion. Even after it breaks in, you can still get some great flights out of it and teaches great lines.

if you are looking for a slower, more understable driver that will turn right (assuming you throw right hand, back hand), i would suggest a roadrunner. it is quite a bit more understable than the beast is. i have a roadrunner, and i really like it, one of my favorite drivers. the disc is designed to turnover when thrown flat. i have a weenie arm too, only throwing around 280-300ft at best, and can still turn this disc over. not sure how accurate this is, i'm an inexperienced rec player at best, but getting the disc to turn over seems more related to producing a lot of spin, not necessarily speed. the leopard is a great disc too!

The Roadrunner seems to be a solid choice for turnover driver.

Since I throw forehand most of the time, I have a weenie backhand (240-280')

In another thread I stated about a fluke backhand drive I threw with my 168g Champion Roadrunner (400'+). Since then, with a lot of practice, I'm getting it out around 300-320'.

If I throw it flat, it will turnover just a hair, flatten out with just a slight fade at the end. It's the only disc I've found which gets me that extra 30-40' with my weenie backhand drive.

It's also my go-to disc for rollers.

I'm not a long thrower either, but an ESP Surge 171 really gets me some extra distance in a straight line. The hyzer at the end is very predictable. I'm going longer on some holes than I have ever been. I let it go waist high and the thing stays 5-10 feet off the ground. I believe my Beast has been replaced. Even had some compliments. Little do they know.

I just got a 157 champion teebird to help me with improving my throw. i was using wraiths and destroyers and realized i wasnt getting the distance i nshould. I am just wondering if i got to light or if it will work good for me. does anyone have any advice on this
