DGPT: 2021 The Preserve Championship July 30-Aug 1

Looking forward to seeing Hole 5 on the coverage. At this point only 1 person (James Proctor) is Circle 1 in Regulation

    No Limits on Disc Design

There was another recent tournament (maybe Jonesboro??) where Matt Bell did this on a putt. He was like 40ish feet away but was in some thick foliage. So he balled up the disc and threw it instead of trying to use a normal putting motion. If I recall correctly, he almost made the putt.

    No Limits on Disc Design

That would be a funny experiment. Attach rare earth magnets around the rim of a putter and see if you can get it to hang from the chains even if you just graze the edge.

PDGA NT: 2021 Dynamic Discs Open Apr 28-May 1

Now that I see the picture, I would guess people kick left OB and then try to carry OB towards the basket instead of following the fairway. Looking forward to seeing how the feature card handles that hole.

PDGA NT: 2021 Dynamic Discs Open Apr 28-May 1

I see Zach Melton took an 11 on hole#1 with 4 OB strokes. I would be interested to hear the story of how that went down.

    Par Talk

Thanks for posting the graph. It is clear that the only way you could raise par to 1000 on those courses that play far below 1000 is to designate a lot of par 2 holes. This thread has a lot of debate on the 2 contrasting views. 1) If par for a round should be 1000, then you will need par 2...

Just curious: Do you also have that in terms of round rating instead of Course Par? So we would just see one line and see it moving up and down around 1000. Well pretty much always below 1000, but I do see a few points were course par was better than 1000.

    Enough with the alternate pins!!

I think this is a great approach for alternate pins for a few reasons: Assuming that signs are good enough to show the layout, the only downside I see to alternate pin positions is the "tracking you vs. the course" element. As in "How do I know if I played better/worse by my score vs. par if...

The 35 was a score of 4, and it was considered a par 4. Thanks for the input.

    Par Talk

I was actually analyzing the multi-pin holes as 2 different holes since the pin positions were really different. Sometimes even changing par on the hole. What is the threshold for a lot of one score? Like 65-70%? One hole that had the most scoring variance went 30/35/25/10. A par 4 with a...

    Par Talk

Steve - I played in a tournament last weekend and I grabbed all the hole-by-hole scoring data and arranged each hole into percentages for taking 2, 3, 4 , etc.. I know you had previously mentioned the preferred ranges for the scoring distributions, but I can't remember it. I am interesting in...

Hey hey ho ho round ratings have got to GO!

I see. That I'm not sure about. I think I remember hearing that if say the early tee times had nice weather, and then a bad storm came through that it would be possible to separate the ratings based on the early/late tee times. I could be mistaken though.

Hey hey ho ho round ratings have got to GO!

Weather isn't in the calculation. Only the scores and ratings for a given course are in the calculation. If the weather changes significantly, it becomes a different course, so the scores are separated into different buckets in order to perform the calculation. Change in weather example...

Knowledge bomb from the 970 rated advice thread

Totally agree with the original data posted. If you can throw straight/accurate 250 ft and make 20 foot putts every time, you are shooting +1000. One point regarding accuracy vs. power though: If you can throw 400 ft distance lines, you can throw 300 ft golf lines way easier than someone that...

Hey hey ho ho round ratings have got to GO!

I think the easiest way to test this would be to find a major tournament whose layout is relatively unchanged throughout the years. Looks like the ratings started in 1999. Maybe start from 2005 to give the ratings some time to reach a steady state. That would give you 15 or 16 years of...
