Best Courses In the South? (Cross Country Road Trip)

If you go the flyboy route, play Trace State Park Gold. It will challenge your skills and its a pretty course. Or Indian Creek in Huntsville, AL. Bud Hill in Memphis is also fun. Ill play a round with you if you go to the Tupelo MS course.

Also play flat rock park if you do the flyboy route, my home course, and awesome.

I looked and you go right through Tupelo, MS. You should seriously think about Trace State Park. It is probably listed under Old Warrior DGC or something like that, but they have it in gold position and its awesome

If you come down I-10, in Texas, in Beaumont, you gotta play Klein Park. I love that course, then in Houston, you gotta play Sping Valley, Windwood, or Texas Army Trail. Then, head up to Austin. If you go through San Antonio, Bryan McClain park is a must play.

Let me know if you come into Houston, and I can join you somewhere

LoPan12 and I played Windwood a few weeks ago, and he really liked it. I think its one of the best courses in Houston

If you go the coast route, Mobile has a few courses well worth playing. UofSA, Langan, Chickasawbouge.

At this rate, Jesterian, you're going to have to drive both routes.

Blue Angel Park in Pensecola. Mobile has some great courses. Chickisabouge, University of South Alabama, Springhill Hobbit, Fairhope, and a couple more great ones. New Orleans has City Park and Lanfierre(sp?) Park both of which are good ones.

Unfortunately for all disc golfers, I will be moving baskets back to the shorts Saturday at Trace State Park in tupelo. The pro pads there are still good and probably worth a stop, but it will not longer be in Gold after Saturday morning at 10 a.m.

One, more generic, thought for our traveler is that a more northern route gets you, if nothing else, some hills and more variety of terrain. The most southerly route, hugging the Gulf Coast, means you'll be playing pretty flat, or at the most gently hilly, courses.

I can't speak for the western end of the trek, but snow is an unlikely threat across any of the South from mid-March into early April.

Bud Hill outside of Memphis,TN After you warm up on the front 18, hit the clubhouse, grab a local and go nuts on "The Ridge" 9 holes of technical insanity.

I am looking for tight fairways, shaped shots, requirement to have multiple shots in the bag, or holes long enough or with enough water to provide a challenge for an advanced player.

you don't want to miss the magnolia dgc.

enjoy the travels and the internship!

Yea, there isn't much of a chance at all (though anything is possible) of snow in that time around here. I'll vouch for Old Post being a great course in Russellville, AR. The other course in Russellville is a pretty good test. Lots of water holes and some technical holes to go with them. The Burns Park courses in North Little Rock are also fun if you can navigate them. If I am in town I can guide you through them if you stop there (they are literally right off of I-40). There is also a course on the south side of Little Rock at Morehart Park that you might consider playing if you stay in the area. It may not be a must play, but it has some technical holes that are pretty good.

I have also heard great things from people that have played Bud Hill in Memphis. I haven't made it there to play it, but it sounds like a must play. I'll also mention that this is the last year that the Red Course at Burns Park will be a full 18 hole course. A lodge will be built later this year that will be where the current back 9 is. So if you ever want to play it, come on by.

North Georgia canopy tour course is very nice. 5 bones to play but worth itin the . Bring your hiking boots though its a nice walk in the woods

Ok guys, I've got my route and the courses I plan to hit all planned out. If anyone thinks I'm missing anything special or if there is a better course near any of these please let me know!! I have spread them out as evenly as possible along the trip.

I'd drive 40 miles more to play Old Post instead of Burns Park. They're both right off of 40

Either Old Post or Pleasant View. Both are in Russellville, AR and are great courses. Play both if you have time, and stop by Poppa Wheelies and SportScene, the local disc golf shops. I could be a guide at either one of the courses too.

Yeah, I've played Pleasant View a couple of times and Old Post once (one round each when I was there between Xmas and New Years). I think Old Post would be my pick if I could only do one, and either of the Russellville courses over Burns Park (even though I have extremely fond memories of Burns Park, which was the site of my first rounds with actual pole holes and my first tourney (both in the 1980-1981 era) and the tournament round I got to play with Ed Headrick (1983, I think).

Thanks for the heads up guys, I'm gonna substitute Old Post for Burns Park! Great call!
