Six year bump.
So middle age brought me a nice bought of plantar fasciitis (well age, plus deciding I could do a mini marathon, and too much stomping in my disc golf backhand...).
I've done a nice chunk of PT and shoe swapping. During early recovery I was just using Hoka One Ones for disc golf. They definitely helped, but it's weird throwing on marshmellows, and I went through shoes pretty quickly.
After messing around with many other options, I finally decided to try swapping out the insoles on some classic Merrell Moabs. I decided on the Dr Scholl's Sport insoles, based on the extra support for "side-to-side stability". I've only used them for one round thus far, but they made a huge difference. It was very nice to get back into some standard outer soles, while the new insoles provided some great internal support.
I didn't remember seeing any insole related posts, so I finally busted out the search functionality. And lo-and-behold, a thread on insoles, and a couple folks promoting the same insoles years ago. I do imagine the specific build of "Dr Scholl's Sport" insoles have changed over the years, but the current mix/structure still seems to work well for me.
How did you like Hoka One one? Saw a pair on sale at local
running shoes store and been thinking if I should get 'em
