Does anyone have any details on the recent shut down of the back 9 "due to vandalism?" I received a text from a friend on Saturday morning saying the City had closed down the back 9 and put up a sign. I've noticed over the last couple of years out there a growing amount of "chuckers" or "One Disc Wonders." They seem to be more interested in dragging coolers and cursing about there shots than actually playing the game. Over the last few months there has been vandalism to baskets, mostly chains being stolen. I haven't been out there in a couple of weeks but I'm guessing something bad must of happened for the City of Ham Lake to shut these holes down. Any info would be appreciated.

That stinks dude. I'm about fed up with the dbag chuckers that are coming out of the woodwork. My home course is completely over run with them now. I pretty much won't play now unless it's in the morning and they all aren't there. I take my time and try to clean up after them when I throw. There are trash cans knocked over, tee signs knocked over, graffiti, loud mouth groups of 10, etc. Just one year ago it wasn't like this. It's a complete bummer.

I played Ham Lake when I was up there a couple of years ago. Nothing spectacular, but a fun recreational course. Good for a quick round or to take new players to.

Hate to see the authorities have to take these type of measures, but maybe that will get people's attention. Score another one for the chuckers.

That's dumb, but 4 or 5 of the back holes are flooded anyway. That course has a depressingly low average quality of player, and it's been really busy this year.

This is true. Looks like I'll be spending most of my playing time elsewhere.

Boo. That completely sucks. I typically only play Ham Lake in the early morning hours, before the undesirables come out of the woodwork, and yeah, I've had many missed putts due to the many missing chains on 9, but if you read what the statement said, they seem almost more concerned with the damage to the oaks. I don't know/can't say if the back is that much less visible than the front 9, but there is as much vandalism on the front as there is on the back, as sad as that may be. Maybe some parent saw the description for hole 16 (the Devil's Vagina-very fitting BTW), and went ape.

Whats a Chucker?

Derogatory term for a disc golfer. One who thoughtlessly chucks their disc while out on the course, and generally doesn't do much thinking otherwise.

I'm kind of surprised to hear this news too because I swear I see cops there every time I play that course. They're always up by the boat launch and cruising through the lot.

I emailed the Park Supervisor in Ham Lake just to ask if there was anything that could be done to help.

Well, we're all disc golfers, and I'm sure we've all thoughtlessly chucked a disc at some point.

Chuckers, more specifically, are the idiots who do or cause stuff like the subject of this thread, not to mention stuff like the following.....

That is too bad, having hole shut down is just a step sadly. How often when a city park takes something away to start they give it back eventually? Maybe they need to put a sign up immediately like at Silverview that says the course is going to be shut down with any more crap. Well to say the least the amount of garbage and issues at Silverview has been cut in about 1/10 of what it was. Mostly it is teen hooligans hanging there playing kissy face with some random chick holding things up. Hopefully this will change and the course gets put back because I do not want another RIP on here :O

So now all the baskets are pulled. Wonder what the tipping point was to make the city decide to close the course.

Are you kidding me? I don't go there very often but to practice and play a few every so often but that really sucks.

Its hardly even playable in the current condition.. Construction on hole 3, flooding on 6, 7, 9 seems to be the new "normal" and its just a crap course in the current state.

Really a bummer though hopefully it can be relocated.

That sucks guys. Last time I was up there, I stopped by Ham Lake after hitting BRP. It was a full 18 then. Hopefully pulling the remaining nine was just a temporary measure due to safety issues.
