Time for the annual Thanksgiving road trip, leaving a week from today for 2 weeks. Thinking of filling the Southern California gap on my map. Probably a day or two in Colorado. I'd like to hit Basecamp in Moab again. Maybe some AZ and a week or so in California.

The usual questions.

Any hidden gems I should look up? (unlisted, underrated, or otherwise)
Anybody want to meet up/show us around?
Any events I should look up (or avoid) - leagues and fun, I will have a selection of minis with me, so I'd love to be able to sell a few along the way.
Courses with camping on site (state parks, private facilities, etc)?
Other solid camping opportunities (sleeping in the van) or yards/driveways to park in?

Hitting the road tomorrow. Hoping to push towards Denver area and play a few favorites and make some new favorites. Wondervu is at the top of the list.

Kodachrome in Utah is listed here as 9 holes, but it's actually 18 holes and has some gems. Plus great place to camp. It's a dark sky's designated state park and just really awesome.

Out here in So Cal there are several regional parks with disc golf and camping on site. My favorite course in So Cal is Yucaipa Regional Park and it has full service hook ups. Prado Regional Park also has full service camping and would be closer to the LA Courses (as in La Mirada and El Dorado)

Lake Casitas in Ventura county (over 150 miles from Yucaipa) has camping and is one of the top rated courses. It is very scenic and challenging and a great visit if you are North of LA area.

It is not super close to disc golf, but there is camping on the beach at Doheny Beach State Campground. (30 miles to Huntington Beach in Orange County and 30 miles South to Goat Hill disc golf.) But it is ON the beach complete with amazing California sunsets. Link: https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=645

I see you have not played Oak Grove in Pasadena, where it all began. Sadly, there isn't much camping nearby, but you could play it on your way to Ventura.

Sky High is another great So Cal course on a ski resort. But the camping is closed for the winter and the disc golf closes with the first snowfall.

I would love to meet up and show you around. Please let me know what dates you will be here and I can fill you in on any events and leagues for your minis. There are leagues nearly every day of the week somewhere and tournaments every weekend, including Thanksgiving weekend! Also, if I know your dates I may be able to get you in touch with players that could let you camp at their house.

Heading that way tomorrow. Thinking sky High tomorrow since it's only playable on Sunday correct? Then spend most of the week exploring said area..

I kept trying to reply earlier, and was getting an error. Looking forward to visiting. I'll try to keep updated where I'm at, would love to meet up or find some events to check out.

You should absolutely play Sky High today (Sunday). Sadly, I can't go up the mountain today, but I can meet you at another course when you are done.

Sent you a PM.

I just saw there will be a glow round tonight at the old LA Zoo in Griffith Park. They only set up this course a few times a year.

Here is the info from Facebook

Glow golf tomorrow at the Old La Zoo in Griffith Park at 5:30pm. There is parking at the end of the road on Spring Canyon. Short walk up the staircase & you're there! Here's the coordinates: 34°08'05.4"N 118°17'17.0"W

Further:

This Sunday. setup 5:30p. play 6:30. Stop 9:30. for funsies. At the old la zoo in the griffith park. Lots of fun. night golf. meet here. https://goo.gl/maps/UygAmULxLDzXgtH97

Sadly, I can't go to this event either. I gotta work early tomorrow.

Is it worth making whale rock a priority?

Waller Pines (Waller Park) is one of the best tournament courses in the Santa Maria/San Luis Opispo/Paso Robles corridor. If you have never played a course in a vineyard, Whale Rock is pretty cool. If you like wine, it may be more fun because you can do a tasting - by appointment.

Laguna Lake is probably very beautiful and green this time of year.
Heilmann Park is a nice course in the oaks, it is probably also really green right now.
