socks?

winter specially. grab some young wool

you'd be surprised but they have awesome thin wool socks for summer too. I swear by Darn Tough brand (they actually supply the military) wool socks. I have the summer weights, mid weights, heavy cushioning weights, and ski socks.

I love the fact that they are made in the USA, vermont i think. Also have a 100% lifetime guarantee. The few times I've had holes in my running socks I emailed them and they sent me new pairs immediately.

Picked up a pair od Darn Tough socks at a local hiking store today. Wore them this afternoon and they def. kept my feet dry. They seemed a little tighter then the cotton socks that I am used to, but nothing that would be deemed uncomfortable.

Thanks again for all the posts in this thread

When playing PDGA tourneys I cycle a new pair of socks after every round. Really makes a difference.

Even with my old, crappy cotton socks I would do this too. There is no better feeling then fresh socks on the feet. Sometimes, if conditions allow, I will put on a fresh pair of shoes. I have the vented and the waterproof Merrell Moab's and if conditions are dry, I will switch between rounds too. I'm a little OCD about things lol

alright, well you guys have convinced me what with winter coming up. i'll be buying some darn tough socks. maybe i'll get mukluks too.

Year round smart wool. Cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Iv'e been in the sporting goods industry for 30 years as a foot specialist. I've tried a lot of synthetics and various combos (I get a lot of free socks) but for any kind of active use where heat and sweat are an issue, merino wool is tops for me.
btw Smartwool makes a lot more than just socks, try the tshirt

Here's another vote for Darn Tough - worth the investment as you'll have nice warm socks FOR LIFE. I've done plenty of backpacking with these on and they take care of your feet!

I have quickly accumulated 6 pairs of Darn Toughs and my feet have never been happier. They stay dry and my heels don't crack in the winter, they are warm, comfy, etc... I'm not sure how I made it this long with only cotton socks.

I picked up a pair (ouch on the $$) a few weeks ago and have been loving them. Now i'm watching for them to go on sale somewhere to pick up a few more pairs for the winter.

I think Campmor has them on sale right now (at least they did last week when I bought a couple of pairs for xmas gifts).

And as far as the $$ goes, think of it as a one time cost into a lifetime investment. Darn Tough guarantees their socks for life, so if anything happens to them they'll be replaced.

shoebuy.com always seems to have a 15-20% off code and they have the whole line of darn tough socks available.

they're great investments though because they last so long (i have some 5 year old pairs of hiking socks from darn tough that are still good).

I've run a marathon/numerous half marathons/weekly 5-10k races/hiked/biked with them.

here's a tip: the darn tough wool "dress" socks are just thinner versions of their hiking socks (which are very thick). They make great athletic/hiking/dg socks too (plus they are usually just solid/mostly black or grey. its a great alternative if you want a thinner (but still very robust) wool crew sock.

they make thin quarter and ankle wool socks, which are awesome for running/sport.

.

They might have a coupon, but I just checked and they have them overpriced by 15-20% too. Amazon or REI is where I get mine. Free shipping if you have Prime, or store pickup on REI.

I ended up getting most of my pairs from GoBros.com. Free shipping, authorized Darn Tough dealer, etc... Experience was easy.

rainbow socks

The joke of this post reads as this..."There are socks in the pic?" :p

Just gonna put that out there as all the guys will be thinking/looking elsewhere than where your socks are....

Oh yeah, for socks look at Swiftwick. They make several models of true performance/compression socks in multiple materials and several cuff heights from zero to 12" high. They are not cheap but they will last and keep their tight fit until you wear holes in them (and that will take a while).
