St. Jude Disc Golf Charity Invitational- still spots available!

Wide open makes sense as far as easier coverage.

Boring to watch though.

"And another hyzer"

"And hyzer approach"

"Tap in putt"

Jussi mentioned repeatedly in the DG Guy's preview vid that this course was "the future of disc golf." If the future of disc golf is throwing nothing but full out wide open drives on ball golf courses, then I won't be playing/watching for much longer. Just my personal opinion of course...

I stopped by St Judes both days.

On Saturday I followed the Lizotte/Koling/Schusterick/Schoenfelder card from hole 1 to 6, and I got to tell you, it really did nothing for me watching them throw discs on a ball golf course, the biggest drives launched barely made it to the start of the fairway cut for the ball golf hole. Ball golf courses are far too big for disc golf, the biggest arms in disc golf get swallowed up by how big a ball golf course is.

I was at the Masters Cup at Delaveaga the week before and it was far more entertaining watching them throw on that course.

And ball golf courses are not ideal for spectators, if you follow a card out for a few holes, it is not easy to jump holes or take a shortcut back to hole 1, etc.

it seems like whoever designed that course does not know much about throwing frisbees for fun.

complete BS for Will not just taking a stroke for his disc being completely and unquestionably in the bunker.

Course designer was Jussi Meresmaa, if I'm not mistaken. He's designed other big courses including the one used at the Aussie Open.

If it was so clear, then why was it Doss that said it was too close to call & player gets the benefit of the doubt? I wasn't at the tourney, I'm assuming you weren't there, so neither one of us know exactly what was said.
I grew up playing ball golf & worked on a course. Many bunkers, especially ones like this that have a steeper side, there is usually an area between the start of the sand & the grass.

I honestly don't think you can really tell what was under his disc without being there. But I wonder if there was any mention before the tourney by the TD if you were in/out if your disc was in the area where there is usually not sand or grass, usually dirt.

Again, I don't know if he was in or out just looking at the video but wouldn't Rico say something if he thought it was out? He seems like a super laid back guy but the tourney was on the line after all

There's no question his disc was completely in the bunker as defined in ball golf terms. However, there's also no question that the disc was partly on the bunker wall where the disc partly straddled the edge line made between the sand and ground/bunker wall. So it depends whether the complete bunker itself was OB or the edge line between sand and dirt/grass. It sounds like the definition for this tournament was the latter (i.e. edge line) so disc was declared IN.

Instead of debating over if a disc was in or out at one of the most important events for PR in the history of the sport, let's spend some time showing how much some of the top players were able to raise.

Dave Feldberg - $75

Great job by these guys! $620 total between 6 of the games elite!

And we wonder why we don't grow.

Amazing weekend, I see this turning into one of the biggest events of the year. Hopefully those that didn't fund raise were inspired and will get into the spirit next year. As for the in-bounds call, there is no doubt in my mind that the correct call was made.

How much did you raise?

Even if i could throw 400 feet i wouldn't want to play these courses. Give me trees, poison ivy and some tight lines all day long over this. This kind of golf takes no imagination. Hulk Smash golf. pleasing to the eye, yes, beautiful landscape yes, boring beyond belief yes.

I didn't play, but donated.

My point was these players have a presence and didn't do anything.

I don't understand this post. We wonder why we don't grow?? This is what the game's elite were able to raise? This event just generated $215,000 to St. Judes. The top player in the world used his status to raise more than $20,000. In any charity event there are going to be major and minor contributors for a wide ranging number of reasons.

you have a list of people that you think should have done more. fine. I'm focused on how disc golfers were able to raise 6 figures for a great cause and i would consider the event a pretty incredible success.

Everyone could do more, does that mean that they should?

I didn't donate, does that make me a bad person?

Instead of saying every dollar counts, we are putting them on blast for not donating enough, seems trivial to me.

I agree with cjdiscgolf's post. Those amounts raised are embarrassing.

Cool tournament that I hope grows! There were things I didn't care for though. Nothing to do with its cause just the way it plays.

First talking about it being the future of disc golf and acting like it was some impressive engineering feat to design and put up the course was over the top and inaccurate. That would be simple to design a course there. I do enjoy the elevation changes and the way the disc skips across fairways, but it is kind of a wide open boring course.

Second only playing two rounds is not enough in the future. Let the pros battle it out more! Although we all know with 3 rounds McBeth wins and a 4th round it's probably not that close.

Last and definitely least is that in bounds call of Will's in the bunker. That disc was completely in the bunker and clearly ob. That has set a stupid precedent for future tournaments to squint and throw some blades of grass on top of your disc and argue it's in bounds. Will should've walked up to it and just admitted he was ob and taken his stroke instead of arguing. He still wins. Doss didn't help the situation. Now if Feldberg and potentially others play their and go ob they will cause a huge scene because they let Will get away with it.
