If I were to do it again, I'd change up how I handled the masking … probably leave the shark clear rather than filled with the "water".

I just started dyeing discs a couple of weeks ago. Mostly watered-down lotion beds with Rit Synthetic. Here are a few I've done recently...

I liked how the Lucid Emac Truth above came out, so I decided to do something similar with my new VIP Sword.

When I pulled the Sword out, the dye bed reminded me of a galaxy so I tweaked it a little and reused it for my Tournament Stag.

Star Teebird. Originally yellow, lost it in a pond...when I got it back it had red marks on it and I'm still not sure how that happened. Dyed it with ProChem dyes.

Here's an Om Ohm!

I was going to dye around the Om, but I think this looks good enough.

first attemp's at pan dip dyeing

Here's a couple of my first attemp's at dyeing with cocoa butter lotion & Pro chem dye using a large ultimate frizbee for a pan & a heat lamp. IMO Pro Chem dye is an excellent product! On disc's that are colored using Rit dye the colors have a tendency to blend into another color. Not with Pro Chem dye's. I still need a lot of practice, but getting good results. The one that look's like a spiral...i'm really happy with.

Here's a few more i did. i turned the Berg right side up & just used the dye mixed with cocoa butter lotion. On the Star Mirage i decided to do something different & only dye the outer part. The sign vinyl i used is getting old, but i didn't think it would bleed ( Wrong! ). Next time i'll use a hair dryer to heat it first.

Nice work. Two suggestions.

1. include what plastic the disc is...you did say the Mirage is Star, but you don't say what the rest are. That information is helpful to others as it can show how the plastic took the dye.

2. when you use a stencil or just a vinyl 'cover' you can put a light bit of Elmer's Glue along the edge, let it dry and that will help stop the bleeding.

I need to come up with something better than contact paper for the masking. I still like it, though. It looks nice spinning.

A bit late, but....I've seen dyers on YT use glue to 'mask' parts of a disc. Put as thin of a layer as possible on the areas you don't want to dye. Let it dry solid. Dye the disc. Pull off the glue. I've done that on one of mine and it worked very well.

The first post with the 2 disc's. The one on the left where you can see the outside of rim is my very first dye dip & i didn't push it in far enough. The disc is a Star Tern. the one next to it is a Champion Wombat 3. The next 3 underneath it all have the plastic names on them, but here you go. Champion Glow Leopard 3, K1 line ( basically Champion type ) Berg, & Star Mirage. I wont use DX & Pro will only work so well.

2 latest attemps

Here's my 2 latest attemp's at pan dyeing. One is a G star Leopard 3, & the other a Champion Toro. The G Star Leopard 3 was green so the yellow I put in the middle just made it more green. The Champion toro was purple, it took the yellow well but turned out orange ( OK by me ). The red urned out OK & the blue became purple-ish blue. I didn't center it exactly but i'm satisfied with the results!
