Pros:

Boylan Acres - Arduous is the middle level course out of the three on the property. In reality it's a less brutal version of the Extreme course is both woods and elevation. It does add some more length to make up for it though. This is the original course on the property too.

The tee signs are very nice and give you a great sense of the hole with the detailed map which has next tee arrows, both basket placements, any OB or hazard. Literally all the information you could possibly need. On top of that, these same type of signs are at both tees. In addition to that there's numerous next tee signs and even arrows attached to one of the bottom rungs pointing toward the next tee, usually the long. Navigation was a breeze out here.

The tee pads are unique. They're concrete but with 12 slots cut into them which I'd assume will help with drainage. I'd seen the pictures of them but wasn't sure what to expect. I really liked them though. Great grip, level and plenty big enough. Two tee pads on every hole I believe. If not every hole it was almost every hole. Many of them are placed to give a completely different look at the hole too. Not just the longs further back.

Great terrain here, and a great design on top of that. Good mix of woods, hills, open holes with prairie rough and a creek that can come into play in a couple spots. There's no gimme holes out here but all are still fair and attainable. Well not necessarily by me, but people more skilled than me.

The landscaping is top notch for a private course. There's bridge or pallets laid down over the creeks and low lying spots. There's also stairs, whether logs or concrete blocks on EVERY hole to make it easier to navigate. This was extremely helpful with all the elevation here. There's also logs, benches or both on many of the holes which was appreciated after playing Extreme before this one. Not a single complaint with any of the amenities out here. None. Hell there's even wooden boxes with bottled water throughout the two big courses.

The baskets are white banded discatchers on every hole except one of the. That one had an older Mach for it, and that may just be because it was set up on a stump. Two pin placements on every hole too I believe, with the exception of the island hole.

The course is located out in the middle of nowhere. Very peaceful setting. Just a beautiful piece of property too.

Cons:

I don't have much for cons here for a private course.

The property line can come into play in a couple spots, so there's potential for lost discs with errant shots or if the wind is up.

The course is a hike. Not a con, just a warning that it's not going to be for everyone. Carts would be a bad idea out here. It's doable but you'll regret it most likely.

The prairie holes aren't my kind of thing. The brush was down in mid April but I imagine these are kind of a PIA in the summer. This was about the only place on the course that didn't have benches or logs to sit on either. These are towards the end of the round when you'd really want something to sit on.

Other Thoughts:

I've had my eye on this course for a few years now. Since this one was the only course on the property. This place did not disappoint in the slightest. Three courses onsite and $10/person to play all day is a steal. One of the best private courses out there. Do yourself a favor and find a way to make your way out here. If you like rugged woods golf this needs to be on your wishlist. Loved it.

Pros:

18 holes are scattered throughout some nestled beautiful terrain, with a good mix of wooded and open holes. There's been a lot of hard work put into the course by its owner and it shows! The folks who set this up were also very friendly and happy to get us started on the course.

Cons:

The course is still a work in progress (although there are over 18 playable holes), so some of the finer points like signs aren't yet available. As it's a private course, there aren't multiple tees or pins, and the rough is somewhat thorny in places.

Other Thoughts:

Big thanks to Steve and Jeff for allowing us to play and being so hospitable. Would absolutely come back if we're passing this way again.

Boylan Up! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 2, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Shot Selection: going to need Forehand and Backhand. Shots going every direction here.

7,400' Tee to Basket. 3 Holes under 300'. Shortest 250'.

Tee Pads are large cement blocks, not your usual poured style, no risk of these ever altering from being mis-poured or even cracking probably. Length was comparable to any average Tee Pad.

Hills, valleys, shooting across large expanses to find the Baskets tucked away in groves of trees. No two Holes the same. John Houck influenced design.

Got some water on the property in the form of a creek and pond that come into play.

There are numerous places that provide shade throughout. This is a Course where heat will be a factor, so it's fortunate to get that respite.

Secluded, country setting. Really beautiful and peaceful. As other Reviewers have noted, unique topography for Central Indiana. Reminded me of more of a Kentucky/Tennessee type of atmosphere.

If you get a Map, you'll see that each Hole is uniquely named, a pretty cool touch I've not seen really anywhere else I've played. 'Orphan Annie', '7up Yours' are a couple examples.

Cons:

Course is brand new, anything that would be a Con will undoubtedly be addressed.

Won't find many spots to take a seat at, did find a couple log stools on #16, I took a couple breaks sitting on the Tee Pads, some are raised enough that they worked fine for a brief rest.

Understand that if you venture out here, you won't find any Tee Signs yet. Without getting a Map, you'll need someone to help guide you, but after about the 8th Hole, it's pretty intuitive to get to the next one. Those aforementioned large Tee Pads are pretty easy to spot for the next Hole.

The thorns in the rough can seem like Freddy Krueger. Be very careful reaching for errant Discs, and stepping about looking for shots that find their way into the rough.

Other Thoughts:

The fact of how big the property is that has to be maintained, and all of the clearing that has gone into this project, truly puts the word 'Labor' into labor of love.

Putter Course in the works that will be really cool.

$10.00 all you can play, totally reasonable

Bring your Bug Spray, this is the country and your usual suspects are roaming, ticks, etc..

Steve Boylan, Jeff Nugent, Jeremy Sumpter, Imanuel Bernard, Shawn Carson-these gentlemen have done a heck of a job. This is definitely one that will be competing for Top Dog status in Indiana as it continues to be tweaked.

Speaking of dogs, there are two great ones that live here!

Diamond in the rough 2+ years drive by

Pros:

Great use of the property so far with some unique improvements yet to come.
A lot of elevation changes from hole to hole which isn't always easy to find in central Indiana.
A variety of shot shapes are required to shoot well which is indicative of a great course.
Hole 18 is a bomber 400'+ downhill hole that you'll probably throw your entire bag on.
There are no gimme holes on this course. Obviously some are easier than others but you definitely have to earn every birdie.

Cons:

Still a work in progress so it needs tee signs (especially for the blind holes) but I believe those are coming once all holes are finalized and directional signs so you don't get lost. Thankfully had a guide when I played which helped a ton.
Some tee pads are above ground level and the ground needs to be built up around it so it doesn't interrupt your walk up. This is a definite must as the tee pads feel a little shorter than I'd like.
With the course being new, the rough is brutal and you will likely find thorns. This will probably improve over time as more people stomp it all down.

Other Thoughts:

You'll want to bring water and a snack or two. And leave your cart at home. You will want a bag for sure.

Overall this is a fun and challenging destination course that Indiana needed.
