Very cool 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 24, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Tee Signs and Tee Pads for every hole
-the short birdie holes are not easy, they are technical holes in the woods.
- great hole #14, longest hole and right up there with the funnest tee box shot in Texas. The tee is from the top of the hill down to a sports field with lots of ob to cross and on the right of the hole.
-several 2 shot holes that making your 3 is going to be tough.
-Convenience store near tee boxes 15 and 17 is a lifesaver when you don't have something to drink and the temperature is 106.

Cons:

-baskets are not marked (yet) so there are a few holes that can be confusing if you don't have a map.
- #6 fairway has #8's basket in it. It confused us and the group behind us played #8 basket instead of the correct basket.
- 2 of the holes are a little too close to some backyards. I see future problems on these holes if this course becomes popular.
- The course is still very new and very rough, lots of briar if you get off the narrow fairways on several holes. My legs can attest to this.

Other Thoughts:

It is not very often you hear good things about a course on church property. This course is very good, even with the few small design flaws. The only reason I rate it a 4 instead of a 4.5 is that it is still very rough. I foresee this course being one of the best courses in DFW when it get broken in.

If you do go play here, remember it is Church Property, respect it and please don't drink on the course.

Super fun course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 30, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

It's nice to have a course in South Dallas with such diversity. Long holes for the big arms to air it out and short technical holes for those whose game favors the tighter, more accurate types of holes. Living so close to the course, I have played it well over 20 times. I can say that I have literally used every shot in my bag on this course. From hyzers to anhyzers, tomahawks to thumbers, spike hyzers, flicks, rollers, and even an occasional grenade. Love the tee boxes. At first they were a little short for some of the longer holes but they have come back and compensated for this by extending the boxes with pavers thus giving plenty of room for run ups. Signage is great as they have just recently put in permanent signs that are nice and big with all the details of the hole including distance and direction of the next tee. Elevation change is epic with the course playing up and down on multiple holes.

I have a love/hate relationship with the first four holes. I really love the way that they are designed and the way that they play. However, I hate the way that my score looks most of the time ). But that is what keeps me coming back for more. The green on hole 6 is beautiful and I love playing it. You will need a finesse shot to get it on the landing without going long and down the hill behind it. Hole 7 is soooo sick! The basket position is just begging you for an ace. Also, I really enjoy holes 14 and 15 because of their length and the fact that even though they run parallel to each other they play completely different. 14 is a wide open shot from the top of a hill with about 40' of elevation change and trees and asphalt on the right that are both O.B. and baseball field fence that everyone tries to throw over at about 550'. It is definitely possible to get a three here but a bad drive can push you up to a five real quick. 15 (as we call it at the roads "the Green Mile") plays just on the other side of the road back up the hill and through a 50' - 60' wide tunnel. It opens up with around 250' left but has a guarded basket. I have never seen anyone get a three here but fours are possible and fives are still a great score. This is a par five hole and make no mistake, unless you have two great shots back to back, you will not get a four. Play your buzzz or you favorite mid range for your fist 2 shots and you have a very good chance at 3ing the hole! But it will at times feel as if your walking to your exicution! Hole 16 is probably the hole that I give the most improved award to. When I first started playing the course, it was my nemesis and by far my least favorite. It was too tight with too many trees to get around and no definitive landing spot. However, great effort has been taken to widen the fairway and even the final approach to the basket, which before was virtually impossible to reach in 3. This hole is now one of my faves! Play it and you will see why. EPIC!!

Cons:

Hole 2 could probably have a little more protection to the right of the basket. Disc come flying by you occasionally from golfers throwing from hole 4. Hole 10 could use at least a 10 ft ceilling as you get 3/4 of the way to the basket but that's majoring in the minors not a big concern. A 3 is very possible

Other Thoughts:

This course has the potential to being one of the best courses to play in the country! It has been beaten down so much, you owe it to yourself to come out and play it where ever you live. Play this course a few times and you will love it! It will eat your lunch at times but this is a course that leaves you wanting to come back for more because at the end of the day you know you can shoot better! One day you may be -1 and the next your 9+. Perhaps alternate pin placements in the future would be a nice addition. However, the current positions are really cool. This is definitely not a beginner course although there are holes that are beginner friendly. If you are wanting to expand your shot arsenal or just play a challenging but fun course then come on out and that's what keeps me coming back for more. This is by no means a" pitch and putt" course. -NDLB

One of DFW's top courses 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 4, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Thank you to Sean and Charles.Technical holes that made great use of the land that is available on the church property.Mix of mostly wooded holes with some wide open shots too.New added shorter pin locations shortened up the course a bit for the church/beginner crowd.Hole 9 now has an added longer pin location straight down the hill from the original one makes the hole more fun. The short holes are technical enough to not be boring,Hooray!Plenty of shade for the 100 plus degree weather!Orange spray paint on holes 12-14 can be used as island/ out of bounds if you wanna play that way. The fairways have been cleared out tremendously not alot of ground cover .There is a creek and a road thats out of bounds which is marked on the very decently done signage on the first three holes.

Cons:

Some pins make the course a whole lot shorter and easier.Hole 16 in the short pin is not as exciting as the long placement, same with 9 and 10.Sunday you can'yt play in the morning but its a church so it makes sense to close it for the church patrons to utilize.

Other Thoughts:

Hole 14 is a real Crushers Delight! The kind of hole you'll want to throw more then one on!You walk up behind a store for your convenience at 16.

Extremely challenging!!! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 6, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

A multitude of different types of shots, i.e. up and downhill, blind shots, etc. I feel this course will eventually be a great course because there is a LOT of room to work with. I also liked seeing a trash can on almost every hole.

Cons:

Where to begin...
The baskets in the trees (quite a few) are near impossible to par or birdie. There was an enormous amount of brush and debris throughout and near impossible to negotiate at times. The tee boxes seemed a little short, but still manageable.

Other Thoughts:

I realize this course is still a work in progress and that changes will be made eventually. From what I understand the youth pastor helped build (or did build) this course which is a very cool thing! It would be nice to see numbers on the baskets one day. It would also be nice to see several of the first holes cleared out more.

There were too many blind shots and holes that were just laid out poorly. I'll play it again eventually, but not any time soon.

Awesome Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 3, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

1. The land sets up PERFECTLY for a disc golf course.
2. A wide variety of shots required.
3. Elevation changes all over.
4. Interesting and unique greens.
5. Every hole is different! (Fun to play!)

Cons:

1. Tee pads could've been a bit longer, but they are not unacceptably short.
2. Certain holes are a bit too close to other holes. (See below.)
5. Can't play at all times. (Not much of a con really, but it's closed for church events on occasion)

Other Thoughts:

The course designer is EPIC! He drove his car down the course to ask us what needed improving and what we thought. It's so nice of him to work so hard to bring another course to our area! Thank him if you see him!

After finishing the round I wanted to give the designer a bit more feedback on the whole course...

Holes 1-4: These holes ROCK! Some of the best technical holes in the area.

Hole 5: A different hole, but it plays into the whole course nicely. Better get your bird.

Hole 6: I really like this hole for one main reason... The hilltop green! The only problem here is that you have to throw too close to another hole's basket on the drive.

Hole 7: Amazing hole just the way it is! You can go for your easy drop in deuce, or you can try for an ace and risk a long putt.

Hole 8: Very difficult hole, but it's a nice par 4.

Hole 9: Great! Just finished a par 4 and now you gotta throw a finesse shot up the gut on a 215' hole. Awesome design!

Hole 10: A lot of recent work was put into this hole and it paid off big time! Great par 4.

Hole 11: Another great hole! Nothing to change here, it's my personal favorite hole.

Hole 12: This hole is a bit blah for me... I think it needs something more. The elevation is nice, but maybe you could make this an elevated basket? Or perhaps you could do something like they do at the USDGC with the bamboo wall. (Obviously not with bamboo, but maybe with a fence, or something?) Or you could set up a mini wall around the circles edge so that you couldn't just throw for the skip?

Hole 13: Sweet hole! Great use of space!

Hole 14: Very good hole! Getting a three here is very possible even for some rec/int players.

Hole 15: Par 5... YEP! The tee is kinda short and there is no run-up available, but a clean drive is needed, so possibly no run-up needed. This hole is long and can get VERY frustrating, which is what I want from a par 5! There may be a couple trees that could go, but this hole is nice the way it is!

Hole 16: This hole has cleaned up to make for another great par 4.

Hole 17: This hole is the worst hole in my opinion. For anyone that can throw 350' you just have to let go of your disc straight and just pray that once it gets to the tree-line it magically misses like 10 trees and parks itself under the basket. I believe the "precision" part of the shot should be within the first 150' on a drive. Having a guarded pin is fine, but having an open field shot with the last 80 feet turning into a pinball machine is too much. I just think with the hole the way it is... About 80% of people would get a par, 18% would get a bogey, 1.99% would get a birdie, and apparently someone has aced it already which is unreal... but he would be that extra .01%

Hole 18: The precision part of the drive is right off the tee making this no gimme! This is an excellent hole and it is my second favorite hole out here. The drive is tough, the fairway is open allowing for a smooth anny line for rhbh, and the green is very tough if you decide to go for a long birdie attempt! PERFECT!

This course is one of the greats. One more championship caliber course in the DFW area!

One of the best in DFW ! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 20, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Awesome new addition to the area. For being such a new course its pretty dang good. It has a lot of good elements of other DFW courses but my friends and I are all ready referring to it as the ''tour 18'' course because of great combination of styles all on one course. It has short wooded shots, over creek shots, elevation shots, tunnel shots, huge distance shots, and even distance tunnel shots.

Thing that excites me the most about this course is that in addition both cedar hill courses it could bring some good competitions and hope this is put in the tourny mix.

Cons:

First con really isn't a con for me but something others dg'ers might need to prepare for especially in this texas heat. It is a very long course that if your in a group of about 3 or 4 will take well over 2 hours to play. So you really have to make sure and have the water and time for it.

2. Being a new course it still needs some clearing, paths and bridges but will come with time.

Other Thoughts:

Cool seeing a church put in a course (and such a good one at that) that is open for the public. Make sure and thank the people working on the course. There was a family with their kids clearing out brush around one of the baskets and the youth pastor even came out to welcome us to the course half way through.

Challenging and well-designed ... Still in progress 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 16, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Extremely good course to hone your game. Course has a variety of shots needed and includes many elements -- creeks, trees/obstacles over OB, protected baskets, true par 4s and a 5, birdie-able holes, elevation change, roller rewards, landing zones for longer holes, tunnel challenges, and risk/reward decisions. Trash cans throughout. Being a church should keep the behavior on the course kosher

Cons:

The course is not yet tournament-ready but playable; work still being done on some tee boxes, some clearings, and flattening needed on a couple of holes. Temp signs are in. Not too friendly for disc golf newbies or beginners.

Other Thoughts:

Sean is the youth pastor at this church and has done most of the work HIMSELF and is to be appreciated for designing and putting the course in. I know improvements are on the way and the temp course maps should be under the Links tab.

Fun, challenging course that needs to be broken in 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 14, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course is a lot of fun to play and is also very challenging...two factors that make a very good course to me. There is some elevation change, good baskets, concrete tees, signs showing the hole number, a picture of the fairway, and distance. Plenty of trashcans. We had the course all to ourselves playing on a Thursday at midmorning. My favorite holes were 14 and 15. 14 is a LONG hole where you tee off of a high perch down along side a road that comes into the church property. The basket is in the center field of a baseball field whose right field fence is about 600 feet or so from the tee box and is reachable given the elevation advantage. It is probably about a 900+ foot hole altogether that is 3-able. The next hole comes back parallel to 14's fairway but in the trees with a tight fairway and finishes uphill...very tough par 5 hole.

Cons:

The flow of the course is not always obvious and often times fairways run very close to one another. This is dangerous for tournament play although I believe they draw ob lines for tournament play. There are times where the basket you think might think you would throw to is the wrong basket. Luckily the signs signify when this is the case, so pay attention to those. I think it was hole 6 where this was especially the case. Hole 7 as well, looked like there were a few options for baskets to throw to and the sign wasn't real clear as to which it was.

Other Thoughts:

Very good course that is challenging while remaining fun. The issues that were present when the course first went in have been corrected with bridges on the first several holes now and a double mando put into play on hole 16 to keep you from playing out onto 17's fairway. Sidenote: you cannot play this course on Sundays until after 2pm or on Wednesday nights due to church services.

Great addition to the area 2+ years drive by

Very well desgined.
With the addition to this course there are now 3 courses in the area!

1. Beaver (Lorch Park) Cedar Hill
2. Coyote (Lorch Park) Cedar Hill
3. Crossroads (Duncanville)

Cons:

Still a little Ruff around the edges but nothing you cant handle.
Need a little better lay out on holes 1-4. When this course starts getting corwded its going to be hard to walk down the fairways to get to the next holes. Such as going from # 3 to 4. I know they are also still looking for any extra telephone poles for bridges on the first 4 holes to fix this problem

Other Thoughts:

Again, this course was very well desgined and is a BEAST! # 15 is the hardest Disc Golf hole I ever played period! I cant wait to play this course in some tourney's. I hear there going to add it as a 3rd course to any events at Cedar Hill from now on. Also this course should thin out some of the traffic at Lorch with it only being about 3 or 4 miles away.

This is a AWESOME course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 1, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

I loved the layout of this course. It has elevation and tight wood shots through out. It is only going to get better with time as they continue to clean it up and it gets foot traffic. Really good mix of holes to keep it interesting.

Cons:

It still a little rough with some underbrush. I am not a big fan of using the sidewalk or parking lot for a tee box. I have only been out there once but there is one hole on the back side that could use a few trees taken out of the later part of the hole.

Other Thoughts:

This is one of my new favorites in the area! I love all of the terrain we don't usually get to play in this area. With this terrain takes some time to clear but I don't mind I think as long as the grass and weeds stay down this will be a awesome addition to our DFW arsenal!

Nice course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 25, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Concrete tee pads, with signs (now temporary) that shows where to go from the basket to the next tee box. Really nice use of land, with great variety of shots neeed. Nice big blue drums used as trash cans on every hole.

Cons:

Baskets do not have number plates. Tee pads seemed a touch short, but that is pretty subjective. There are no much-needed bridges (the first three holes in particular). There are no benches.

Other Thoughts:

Consider that this course is *brand new*, and much clearing out still needs to be done. Rough can be *really* rough - I was scratched up after the first two holes. The fairways in the woods are easily, taken as a whole, the narrowest in the DFW metroplex. Think holes 10-13 at the Bill Allen course in the colony, and multiply and lengthen them. Having a couple of holes that make two or three turns is an interesting feature of this course.

My rating is based on the course as it currently is, not as it will be. I am confident that my rating will go up as the course gets cleared out more and improved, through play and through the efforts of those active in the maintenance and improvement of this fine addition to the DFW disc golf scene.

Below is my "blow by blow" description of the course,

1 - Throws over creek, basket hidden. End of teepad near the creek's edge, so watch followthrough. The creeks bends and parallels the fairway on the right. The hole finished uphill and to the left. Cross the creek to get to

#2 - Throws over a bend in the creek. Not currently easy to walk to the basket; I had to walk in what I found out was #4 fairway to get there. Cross the creek (again) to get to

#3 - Similar to #1 - finished uphill and left after crossing creek. Don't feel bad about laying up to stay out of trouble. Walk past the basket to the right to get to

#4 - Narrow ,flat fairway, blind shot, finishes to the right. Walk past the basket and across the edge of the parking lot to get to

#5 - Tee currently marked by spray paint on parking lot. RH hyzer back across corner of parking lot, basket tucked next to woods you just left. Walk past the basket straight to get to

#6 - Long hole, OB on left (houses), currently shown on the tee sign as a line 100 ft to the right of the back yard fences, but it is not yet marked on the course. There is a mandatory left of an outbuilding about 400 ft from the tee. You will walk past another basket on your left just before you get to the outbuilding. Basket is about 200 ft past the outbuilding, well guarded by trees. Walk to the right of the basket to get to

#7 - Tee is the sidewalk next to the tee sign, but it is not marked. Straight downhill shot with a canopy guarding the basket. Walk past the basket to the left to get to

#8 - Narrow fairway, appears to have been carved out of woods. Flat for the first 300 ft or so, then finishes up and to the right on a plateau. This is the basket you passed on hole 6. Walk to the right of the basket to get to

#9 - Back to the woods! Short shot over the side of a hill to the basket, which has a drop off behind it. Follow the drop off to get to

#10 - First 250 ft or so straight and open, then snakes left and then right to the basket. Placement is key here. Unless your second shot is a risky massive RHBH hyzer over the trees, or you can a 100 ft plus third shot, you will get a 4 or higher here. I got a four and felt very satisfied. Turn back to the right to get to

#11 - Straight and narrow, finishing to the left. Go past the basket to the left to get to

#12 - Walk past tee #7, tee is next to the (gym) building. Downhill, throwing over the volleyball court which is OB. Walk to the right to get to

#13 - There is street going across the fairway, about 275 ft away. Tee sign shows a course rule that for Advanced and up players, anything short of clearing the street is OB. Walk up the stairs on the left side of the building, and when they end, cross over the railing and walk toward the fenced-in playground to get to

#14 - Massive throw off the hill you just came up. Pavement is OB, but will not come into play if you clear the initial canopy. There is a fence between the tee and the basket which could come into play if you land too close to it on the drive. Walk to the right to get to

#15 - 710 foot tunnel shot; that about sums it up. Flat for the first 500 ft or so, then hole finished uphill to the right, well guarded by trees. Walk down hill and to the left to get to

#16 - Tunnel through trees. Fairway goes straight, then angles about 45 degrees to the left, then finished back to the right. Walk over to the convenience store for some well-needed refreshment. On the way, you will pass by the tee for

#17 - Open most of the way, but a canopy guards the last 60 ft or so, with the hole finished uphill. Walk up the hill to the left to get to

#18 - Left to right shot out of a canopy to a basket next to the woods.
There is a walk of about 800-900 feet to get back to hole #1, but that really couldn't be avoided, since the walk is 80% parking lot.

Great Course - Still needs play though! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 23, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

I have played this course multiple times and let me tell you its fun! First 4 holes play through a creek that is still in the process of having bridges put in and fairways cut out as well as walking paths that need to be trodden down. Next, the course opens up a bit offering long open turn overs funneling down through trees. The basket on hole 6 sits on a ridge which is quite beautiful but dangerous. This course offers a hole called the Tunnel of Death (TOD) in which you are throwing through a tunnel of trees about 500' then up hill another 200 to a basked tucked in some foliage, 4 is possible but good luck getting a 3! This course offers a great fun factor, wide range of shot selection, and for being as new as it is, really has a very good playability. Check it out, 10 minutes down the road from Cedar Hill so you can make a day out of the area.

Cons:

I only really have one major con with this course and it would be the first hole. The tee pad sits on a downhill slope somewhat hard to get to with not much room for standing if you were to have a group over 3 or 4. However, there is still work being done so this could very easily not be a problem in 6 months or so. Also, hole 5 throws from the parking lot and could cause some trouble if the parking lot was full. I believe a mando will fix this problem in the future.

Other Thoughts:

As of right now the course is still having a lot of work done, area around some baskets is being cleared, bridges being put in, and fairways being mulched down; however, it is a very fun and very playable course. Don't get the impression that this course is any where close to as bad as Gateway when it was put in. Sean really did a great job with this course so if you see him out there Thank him!

Awesome Course!! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 24, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course is awesome!! There is a wide variety of shots that provide lots of skill to get par. There are long open shots, short tight shots, long tight shots, hyzers, annys.. you name it! Great brand new tee-pads are in great shape. The first few holes of the course uses the stream wonderfully. There are trash cans at every hole, and some of the holes have a very interesting "urban" feel (being right next to the building or streets).

Cons:

This course is new so navigation is kind of rough. Getting lost isn't really an issue just read the signage, but be careful where you put your foot, and you might want to wear jeans or tall socks.

Other Thoughts:

Sean is the youth pastor at the church, and he is in the process of fine tuning things (building bridges, pathways etc.) If you play you'll probly see him out there working. Stop by and let him now how much you appreciate this jewel of a course
