Nice elevation, decent layout and good course flow

Overgrown when I played it. Hole 2 was almost unplayable. The rest of the course wasn't too bad.
Construction of the sports area took out holes 8 and 9 and they have not been replaced.

For a school course, this was a good one at one time.

not so much now. Neglected and partially destroyed.

Very nice course sign/map at hole 1. The tee signs are nice too. Baskets were off brand/home made and are showing their age.

The first 5 holes are actually pretty good. Nice warm up hole, go though the trees to hole 2, that is a nice right to left shot along the tree line. Hole 3 is hidden behind some brush you don't want to land in the middle of. Hole 4 has some distance and is tucked into the tree's. I actually had a hard time finding this one. Hole 5 throws though a break in the trees to a basket down in a gully, ace run here.

Then you walk over and throw the longest hole on the course up the side of a field to a basket at the top of the hill. Hole 7 throws from the top of that hill back down to the edge of the field. Holes 8 and 9 use to throw along a tree row back to the parking lot, however construction took these holes out.

IF this course had been maintained and all in place, I would have rated it about a 3, it's a decent layout for a school course. But because of the neglect, I can't rate it better than a 1.5.

Would I play here again? Nope.

De Soto Wildcat features holes of varying length, elevation, and difficulty. You'll need a lot of power, especially if you want to fight through the winds that are likely pretty common here. On the downhill shots, angle control will be important.

The course starts fairly well, with two blind shots around a corner of trees. RHBH hyzer is the right call on those if you have the power for it, but if you don't, you can make up for it on the next few holes, which are a little more open but still have some different options you can take.

And that's about it. A few interesting shots and chances to put discs in the woods (and if you do, the tee signs tell you to watch out for poison ivy and ticks).

There's hardly any maintenance here anymore. Grass can be long in the summer, a few baskets and tee signs are missing completely, and newer school infrastructure is making the course harder to enjoy. Even the baskets that are still here are starting to fall apart. And a few holes play near some soccer fields. At this point, you might as well play hole 8 to the cemetery that is only 600 feet away.

Let's assume for a moment all the baskets are in good shape. Well, the last few holes would still be pretty boring. There's not much going for them, and throwing down the side hill on 7 just isn't exciting without anything else going for that hole. Sure, 6 is a bomber, but a bad shot can put you in the rough for no good reason.

This course isn't likely to improve, so if you're looking to have fun, maybe choose a different course. However, I can imagine locals coming here decently often.

If some love is going to be put in here, I suggest adding some holes through the woods. There's some water that could come into play, and the woods would help the course stay away from the ball fields. In fact, holes 5-9 could be taken out completely and the course would still be fairly decent. Here's hoping.

Solid course sign mapping out all the holes, and each tee has a decent sign with a map, distance, but most importantly, an idea of where the next tee is.

Decent course flow, trails thru the woods are kept open and no long walks except from 5 to 6 and the end.

A couple decent elevation changes. Uphill on 2, 4 and 6 and downhill on 5 and 7.

That's about all the good there is to this course. To start, each tee used to have two small blocks with the hole numbers on them marking the front corners of the tee. I found a few lying by 3, 5 had one still intact, and one for 8 was laying in the field. More on that later.

The baskets are near death. First off, each chain is jut supported by one spindle, so with time several have started to sag. The chains are sparse enough that the catching power is diminished, and rust has taken over five of the baskets.

Holes 8 and 9 have been removed for a throwing sport practice area. No indication was given of this, and I spent a while searching for them. Hopefully I'm the last one to have to do so.

Holes 6 and 7 encroach on a soccer field. Not a problem unless it's in use, but 6 is 500+ feet so you could probably use the space. Also hole 3 plays near to a road.

Maintenance was horrific. The tees of 1 and 7 hadn't been mown for a long while, and holes 2, 3 and 6 had so much tall grass I skipped 2 and 6 to avoid losing a disc (not like I was missing much).

Avoid this course. It's not long for this world, it's ignored by the schools, and the only reason I'd suggest coming here is to make a couple ace runs and bag it for your course count. The elevation is really the only thing getting this course a half disc from me. It seems like it was a very nice course back when it was cared for, but it seems that care has fallen victim to other projects.

Elevation 8/10. A couple holes near the soccer fields are pretty flat, but most holes have pretty good elevation changes and a good variety of up/down/side hill.

Finding discs 8/10 For the most part discs will be easy to find. The tree line near 2 and 6 is pretty thick and tall grass in places means you might have to search for a bit.

Navigation between holes 6/10. There's a map at the start of the course that helps. A couple tees still take some wandering to find and I never found Hole 6's.

Navigation on holes themselves 6/10. There are tee signs on most holes. They aren't great and a couple holes have blind shots you may need to walk up to first, but they're servicable.

Variety of distances 6/10. 2 and 6 are on the longer side, 3, 5, and 8 are shorter. The rest are right around 300'

No Alternate hole positions 0/10

Decisionmaking required 1/10. Most of the holes are wide open at least on one side so you never really have risk/reward choices to make.

Challenging All Levels 2/10. Advanced or intermediate players won't have much fun here. It wouldn't be a bad place for beginners to learn how their discs fly but that's about it.

Variety of shot paths 2/10. Hole 2 is slightly right to left and hole 4 favors a left to right.

Quality of tees/baskets 2/10. The tees are just grass with a marker. A few of them are pretty lumpy. A couple of them overlap with a path so you can use that. Some of the baskets are weird and appear custom made, and they are all different.

Variety of Openness 2/10. Many holes are wide open (3, 5, 7, 8, 9) or have trees down the left side (1, 2, 6). Hole 4 is the only one with any significant obstacles near the basket.

Course Maintenance 3/10. The middle holes are in pretty rough shape right now with grass nearly knee high. I'm not sure if this is just because of school being out at the moment. No benches, a couple tee signs are missing. Hole 6 doesn't have a tee marker at all.

Use of Obstacles 4/10. They didn't have a lot to work with here, with 5 holes essentially playing around a soccer field. The wooded area was well utilized with holes 2 and 4 but I felt like they could have done more with it to make more holes interesting.

Overall Challenge 2/10

The elevation and changing distances is about all that keeps this course mildly interesting outside of hole 4. Wind will definitely be a factor as well as it is so open and will probably be the biggest challenge. If the hole 6 tee is replaced and the course were mowed it would help but the course would probably still be a 1.5 for me.

This course is better than several other school courses I have played (California Trail, Basehor-Linwood) but is by no means good. It's always good to see courses at schools because it introduced more people to the game, but it would be nice if more of them were better like Fox Hill Fliers or Blue Valley of Kansas

There was some good use of space. The signs are really good when they are available. A couple of the holes are interesting with some definite potential. I liked the shots going in and out of the woods.

It is just a 9 hole course. There are no tee pads. Hole 6 didn't have a tee pad or sign of any kind.
