Edgewood Park is a well maintained park in the suburbs of Kansas City. Unlike most courses I played in the KC metro, this one is quite flat. It does make up for this with some moderately wooded holes and very nice equipment. It also boasts some decent amenities in terms of a practice basket, benches, etc. However, parking is not completely clear here; the main lot by the facility building is near hole 3, and you need to park on the other side of the park to be near the practice basket and hole 1.

This park gets a little mundane with some open holes and back and forth action, but it's a nice little course overall with respectable distance for a niner. There are some longer holes mixed in, but nothing incredibly challenging. The biggest con here is the walking paths you will throw over or way too close to on multiple occasions. This is your classic multi-use park with activities packed in the same space. This was one of the busiest courses I played in the KC area in terms of disc golf as well as other parkgoers, including people set up for picnics in the fairways. If anything, the 2.5 I gave this course is slightly generous and at present due to limited reviews, I think it is too highly rated.

You will not need a tremendous variety of shots here, but it's a good enough place to bring beginners to get comfortable with some limited obstacles without a notable workout. It's fine to stop at if you're passing through but there are much better courses in the KC area. Given the overall traffic here combined with the length, this course took me longer to play than expected, clocking in around 45 minutes solo.

For not having much elevation, the holes always have a way to keep things interesting. Whether it be harsh ceilings (2, 4), protected greens (7, 9) inconvenient trees (3, 8), sheer length (5), or even the raised basket of 6, none of these holes could be labeled "boring." The trees are used very well for where they are.

For a 9-hole course in a city park there's a lot of distance here, with three holes over 350'. Grabbing a 2 on these won't be easy.

There's a creek that presents some danger on 2 and 3, but most noticeably on the green of 4 as it wraps around the left side and all the way around the back.

There's a lot of room for improvement. Firstly there is no signage at all. I also hope to see some new pin spots on a few of these holes (looking at you 3 and 5), and maybe some longer tees on 3,4, 5 and 8.

Walks between 4-5 and 5-6 are longer than the typical 9er should have.

There's not much parking, especially if the skate park is busy.

It's possible that trying the left route on 7 could leave you in the skate park. It would be a terrible shot but I've made those kinds of mistakes myself. There is also a lot of walking path near some of the holes, so that always needs to be kept in mind.

Overall this is a typical city park 9 that was designed pretty well. There is room for improvement and I figure it's coming soon for a course that seems pretty well appreciated. There were three groups of 4+ out there on a Saturday evening at 5:30.

The lady cheering for every made putt on hole 4 from her back deck brought a smile to my face.

I was impressed by Edgewood. Every hole had something to keep it edgy. Even the "filler" holes had tougher elements added to make every hole a unique challenge. I'll be back here soon.

9 holes with concrete tees and freshly panted, yellow rimmed DISCatchers. Edgewood Park has some fun shots, and a couple of interesting spots. Hole one has both. The basket is guarded by several trees, and is backed by a creek that can catch a disc that is thrown too far left or too deep. A nice RHBH hyzer line exists, but watch out for the big skip.

Hole 2 tees over the creek, and has trees on either side out of the box. It isn't a long carry over the creek and the window is fairly roomy, but there is a nice tunnel vibe from the tee. Hole 3 crosses the creek, but it is not very much danger on that stretch. Aside from a light post and one small tree, there isn't much resistance.

4 is one of the longer holes, and as you near the pin it gets a bit more interesting. The pin is circled by mature trees, and backed by a bend of the creek. 5 is long, flat and almost entirely open. Unless there is a throw badly missed it is hard to find much trouble.

Hole 6 pin is on a tree stump and the basket is elevated about three feet higher than normal. There are a couple of saplings in the fairway, but a lot of room to work with multiple lines, and not covering too much distance.

7 is another right to left shot with a few mature trees standing in front of the basket. Reachable as long as you avoid the timber on the way there. 8 is longish and pretty open. One big tree to the right mid fairway has branches that can grab a drive that is too nose up.

9 maybe the best hole, with length and narrow gaps in the fairway and on the approach. This drive requires the most precision off the tee.

Flat, and half the holes are pretty open. Standard for most of Kansas, but the layout makes the most of it. No tee signs as of yet. Directional assistance would be ok, but it isn't too difficult to figure out where to go next.

A nice course that defines the 2.5 Decent/Typical tier in my book. 9 holes, not extremely challenging but not beginner level easy either.

Well equipped, but not fully decked out. Lacking the elevation changes and heavy woods shots that spark most of my love/hate relationships with disc golf courses. Exhilaration and frustration levels will not enter the red zone here. Fun, fast and fully adequate.

I shot 2 over par (29) on my first and only round played at Edgewood so far. Birdies on hole 1 and 7 helped me out, but a double bogey on 2 canceled them out, and the bogies on 4 and 6 put me over. Excuses? It was cold and breezy. I wasn't loosened up. Nothing valid. I'll have to return and play until I post a respectable score I suppose.

New tee pads have recently been poured by the local club for all 9 holes. - Kaw Valley Disc Golf.
A few large trees have been removed by the city opening up a few new lines including hole 2.

This is a popular park for the neigborhood so PLEASE be aware of non-discgolfers on the sidewalk that snakes through the course.

This is a new course in Lawrence which is a good complement to classic Centennial Park. It is definitely one of the best 9 hole courses I've played. This is an intermediate level course with very little elevation change but a good deal of large, old trees. The course is not heavily wooded, but it is 'park style' where the large trunks of the scattered trees frame the ideal line to hit. Some holes such as 4 and 7 present low ceilings for much of the length of the hole, forcing you to control the height of your drive. Hole 6, on the other hand, has a couple shorter trees that encourage you to throw over the top of them. Hole variety is still good despite the fact there isn't really a single "lefty" hole; this is because several holes have a couple defined lines that can be hit. On hole 9, for example, you can throw backhand through the slim straight gap, or you can swing a forehand out and around to the left. The holes vary in length from 225 to 375, averaging right at 300. The baskets are brand new yellow-band Innova DISCatchers (hole 6's is mounted on an old stump) which are numbered. This aids navigation along with numbered pavers at the natural tees (which are easily identified by the worn spot in the grass). For the first round, you'll probably want to use the UDisc map, but you should be good to go after that as course flow is mostly logical. There are a couple trash cans plus a bench. If you want to bring the kids out, there's a playground near (but out of harm's way) hole 3 (and between 5 & 6). The park appears to well maintained, and the trees provide lots of shade during the hot summer months.

The tees are only dirt and/or grass, and can be slippery after a rain, especially the ones in the shade. There are no tee signs, so judge the distances yourself or use UDisc. There is some thick rough (not deep, but thick) on the left side of 5's fairway. A sidewalk isn't too far past 1's basket, so you may have to wait for a pedestrian to get out of the way before throwing. Hole 2 doesn't seem like it has any real line; there aren't a ton of trees on this hole, but they're placed just so that there isn't really a conceivable way to get to the basket. There is a long walk from 5's basket to 6's tee which you will probably only figure by using the map your first time unless you notice 6's tee being right next to 3's tee when you tee off there.

Hole 1's tee is right next to the parking lot, and hole 9 ends close by, as well. Holes 3 and 6 both have their tees right next to the parking lot for the East Lawrence Rec Center, so if hole 1 is busy, you could always jump over there to start. A small creek flows through the park and is in play left on hole 1, left on hole 2, is thrown over on 3, and left and long on 4. It's pretty small, though, so disc loss potential is pretty low. On 3, you can cross the gulley easier by walking over the concrete holding the culvert in place about 100 ft to the right. There are restrooms available to use in the East Lawrence Rec Center (although probably not during the Covid-19 pandemic). The course is very flat and thus very cart friendly. This course should appeal to beginners through advanced players. There is a skate park close to the tee for 1 if you're interested in that. There's also a couple picnic tables nearby hole 1 (and 8)'s tee.

**UPDATE**

New concrete tees have been added. They're a tad on the short side for me, and I've heard other complaints about their length, too. Hole 6 has been cleaned up a bunch and has a more defined line, now.

My rating moves closer to a 3.5, but remains a 3 for now. If good tee signs are added, I will likely change my rating to a 3.5.
