Pros:

Pretty scenery, beginner friendly, long and short concrete tees, easy for the townies to get to, and promotes disc sales. Shorts are good for beginners when the grass is cut. I really enjoy throwing hole 10 from the long tees, best designed hole on the course. Moderate downhill shot with early trees and branches to navigate with a green guarded with trees. The course is rare in that there aren't many courses in these mountains that are open and you can really air out a disc.

Cons:

Rushed design that does not do justice to the potential of this landscape. The woods are only utilized for 1.5 holes and I would have loved to see more open to wooded or wooded to open transitions on the long tees. Obstacles were not used well on long or short tees for most of the holes.

Course is not well maintained and even when it is cut it is not cut wide enough or as short as it really needs to be. Tee signs are creative and likable but functionally useless as you can't read most of what's on them.

Other Thoughts:

I'd love to see a redesign of this course, tons of potential!

Unplayable without mowing 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 5, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

- A beautiful piece of property, with nice views of the mountains around the Greenbrier Valley, plenty of elevation change, and mostly park-style disc golf with large trees amongst open lawns.
- Lots of clever basket locations, with large trees forcing specific heights and angles.
- A few wooded holes add some extra variety

Cons:

- Desperately, desperately needs to be mowed. Shots in the middle of the fairway (not even the thicker rough!) can be swallowed up in the mats of thick grass, and require very tedious searching. I somehow lost a disc in the center of a fairway, which was absolutely infuriating, but literally all you could do was kick around in the thick mats and hope to make contact. I even had putter approach shots into the circle that I had to search a couple of minutes for. That is completely unacceptable.
- Many of the lines didn't make much sense to me, or at least the sequences of them. There are boring 100 ft. putter straight shots, and then there are holes where seemingly the only option is a 400 ft. sky hyzer. Who is capable of the latter, and still enjoys the former?
- While I admire the quality materials and careful craftsmanship of the tee signs, they are nearly impossible to read, and some seemed out-of-date if I deciphered them correctly.

Other Thoughts:

This score is probably still too generous. Every single shot was in danger of being lost under tangles of tall unmowed grass, and that is absolutely unacceptable.

I'm giving some credit to the potential of the course, as it's a full 18 holes on beautiful property, with some fun shots. If fairways were mown short, this could become an above-average course, and I do think that's worth having on the record, in case conditions change. But at the moment, that potential is completely wasted, and the course is practically unplayable.

Really Fun Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 13, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Very open; and it's all pretty much int he same general area. You don't need to hike all over the place. It plays pretty quick.

Pretty nice hand crafted signs. Unique WV craftsmanship.

Lots of parking, lol. It's on the fairgrounds, so there's tons of parking space, but you need to drive in to the other side of the parking section to find the first tee.

Cons:

Grass wasn't high grass, but about 6 inches or more. Can get annoying to walk through, but I'm sure its cut throughout the year. (so i'm not complaining)

Course map is a painting, so it's confusing to figure it out. Once you get the hang of the first few holes, you'll be able to read the signs. Use the Hole info on the DGCR App to know which tee tho throw from.

Signs can be a little better defined; while i like the uniqueness, it presents a little issue to read them. (words are etched in wood). You can't read the tee sign from a distance.

Other Thoughts:

It's a super fun course through. I really enjoyed the play. Short tees (tornado course) plays really fast. Long tees definitely add more distance and difficulty. The difference between the shorts and longs here is a lot more than other courses I've played, so bravo to the people who laid this out. I look forward to playing the long tees next time.
