Will pull some of the beginners away from Riverside Park. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 18, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

1) Nice powder coated baskets with a nicely done basket topper . . . I would have thought they would make it a number plate but it must have been the colleges emblem of sorts.
2) Right now there are little number plaques by each tee. They do the trick in terms of knowing which tee to throw from which is good because the middle of the course can be confusing.
3) Nice rubber tees . . . decently grippy and in good condition.
4) Excellent turf on the entire course . . . the only area where turf was not present was #2 and #3 and I would assume they will put some mulch down at some point just to keep it from being mud.
5) Decent rolling terrain with a couple of tighter woods shots too . . . what more can you ask for on a short 9 holer?
6) Pretty decent distance variation ranging from like 120' to 310' with a decent mix in between. While most of the shorter holes were mid ranges for me I did throw a driver on 2 of the holes (4, 9)
7) Very beginner friendly because it will be tough to lose a disc and the holes are fairly forgiving.
8) My favorite holes were, #2 (ACERUN), #3 tunnel shot out of the woods, #1 slight downhill with danger lurking long and left of the basket. The rest of the course is wide open and straight forward.

Cons:

1) The negative to the number plate attachment to the top of the basket is that they are large, will knock down bad shots, and they will also cut up your putters if you hit the edge of the top. I cannot believe they didn't make the number plate a part of the upper basket assembly. They ended up sticking the number onto the top of the basket but it just looks tacky.
2) Rubber tees were nice but not level. There was a slope on many of the tees and a few lumps . . . I would certainly have liked to see those mats framed and leveled with gravel rather than just a pile of gravel laid down and the mat on top. Perhaps this is because they plan on concrete or other tee surface in the future and just did this for the time being, but it would be annoying if the mats were wet and slick.
3) Chain configuration on these baskets was poorly done and I would assume untested. The outer chains are around a large ring which when you hit them hard goes with the disc and thus opens up more of an opening in the outer portion of the chains. Hit the center or you might suffer a spit or two!
4) Very short so all in all it is a pretty simple course especially when you factor in how lightly wooded the course is. Sure 2 hole have pine trees and woods guarding the fairway but there is only one other tree in play and that is beond the basket on #8 so it hardly counts as an obstacle.

Other Thoughts:

Decent course . . . not sure who designed it, but they did the best they could with the property. That doesn;t make it a good course, but there are 3 or 4 decent holes. Unfortunately the other 5 are just plain and straight forward with little interest.
