Interesting, Fun Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 3, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great layout, concrete tee pads, good hole variety with lakeside holes, wooded holes, right and left dog-legs, a throw over a hay barn, and some long, open bombers. Thoroughly enjoyed our round.

Cons:

The hole 17 basket was missing the day we played, but I suspect they will get that fixed. As some other reviewers have mentioned, there is a risk of losing a disc in really tall rough, particularly on the back 9, but--honestly--who cares? There's always a risk of losing a disc.

Other Thoughts:

There are courses maps available in the mailbox by the first tee. We grabbed one, found it helpful, and returned it to the mailbox when we were done with our round.

Pros:

-This is a nice eighteen holer that serves the purpose in making the effort to satisfy players. It'll get newcomers hooked and will be a joy to most other players. It has some uniqueness to it. I played with a few locals and they all happen to really love this course.

-(See cons below) Has the full capacity for some long pin positions and long tee pads. I have some thoughts that could work.

-Uniqueness. This course has more uniqueness than most courses I've played. While it's not "stellar" (except for maybe hole 12.) It has some cool ideas. Hole 3 has you throwing around a barn and gives the option of throwing over. Hole 8 is a super fun par 4 with a few greenhouses in the fairway and a few more houses further down. This hole has a lot of waste to the right side of the fairway, but it's nothing serious. I loved this hole. Hole 12 is easily the signature hole. It's 290' and over a pond. It's frightening for starters, because there is risk no matter what. You can either try to go over the pond, or go around it and probably go in the woods to the right side.

-Primarily open. With a few moderate length par 4s that give the full opportunity to launch as far as you can. Has a few wooded holes to keep things interesting.

-Few ravines in play on holes 13 and 14. 13 was especially interesting. It's a short hole that gives the option of throwing through a fair gap and toward the ravine by the basket, or the option of throwing over a herd of trees. If you go far enough left, you'll be in a gulley. #14 is a bit shorter, and plays over a different ravine. It's not deep, so it's not dangerous to go into, but it can stop you from going for the ace.

-Elevation is solid. Starts off with a nice downhill mid-range shot. Hole 4 is a fun downhiller with a view of the pond. Hole is like 275' but is deceptively shorter because it's a good way downhill. #17 is a good way uphill. It's a 367' par 4 but should really be a 3 as I did go past it by maybe 30'.

Cons:

-One set of tees and no extra pin positions. Not every hole here would benefit from an extra tee; but one hole that would is hole 12. The walk from #11 to #12 is steep downhill and out of the woods. It wouldn't hurt to try to place a long pad in the woods and make a pro par 3 over the pond. Few others that I'm missing. There is an extra 400-450' past hole 16's pin, so it would be cool to add in an alt. pin that's 1000' long. Course also ends on a low note, as the final three holes are all pretty boring. When you walk to hole 18's basket, you look straight downhill and see #15's basket and wish that was a hole. It would definitely be a CTP hole in club events or tournaments if they were to be held here.

-The rough is very sketchy in some places. I'd be worried about snakes in the summertime.

-Not every hole has a tee-pad. In fact, I think most of them are just natural pads. Not to mention they get very muddy.

Other Thoughts:

-This place has some unused potential, but that doesn't mean it's not worth playing. It is a fun course with a lot of flavor. I live an hour and twenty minutes away and I was glad that I drove up here. The wind was very strong so my game wasn't very pretty; that's what will happen if it's windy here.

-This reminded me of Victor Ashe in Knoxville, TN. I think it would be nearly as good as Victor Ashe if some extra pads were put in, because there is plenty of room with unused space. It's shorter and gives more opportunities to shoot lower on.

Fun Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 25, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Easy navigation/good flow, concrete pads, strictly a disc golfing area, nice signage. It was very quite on the course. Nothing but birds singing and frogs croaking. No other people around on a Saturday morning and no traffic sounds to be heard either. Very peaceful. Fairways were mowed and the roughs weren't too rough. Nice mix of holes, doglegs, straight, uphill, downhill.

Cons:

If they designed this course to be a tournament level course, then I could come up with a trove of cons, mostly about the design. But I think this course was just designed to be fun and somewhat easy, and they succeeded. I don't remember seeing many trashcans or benches, not a big deal to me, but it is to a lot of others. Large tree down right in front of hole 11, again, no big deal, there is still a line to the basket.

Other Thoughts:

I loved hole 12! I've always wanted to throw over a lake on a hole. I've seen the pros do it so many times and it makes you feel like a pro to see your disc flying over water for at least 260 feet or so. I actually hit the cage for a near ace which made the hole even sweeter. The par 4's are all reachable in one throw if you can bomb like a pro. They were all easy birdies for me (my max drive is 400). Mostly open holes and the wooded holes were all pretty short. Great beginner course to teach someone on, since most of their stray shots will not be punished much or at all. My wife got 4 under course par and I got 10 under, and neither of us were putting very good. I recommend this course. It's fun and we will be traveling out to it again. 80-100% of the courses in our area are wooded, so it was nice to come out and chuck some plastic on some long open holes.

Pros:

Has concrete tee pads

Has tee signs

More open than wooded fairways with some doglegs and elevations

Course navigation without a map is fairly straightforward

Quiet - had whole course to myself on a Saturday afternoon

Free parking at multiple locations

Cons:

Some holes such as 8, 9, 11, 14 have debris that can obstruct play and need more maintenance

Water comes into play on holes 4, 12, and possibly 11 where they are a factor in losing a disc

Other Thoughts:

This a nice, challenging 18 hole university course in Clarksville that I enjoyed playing on a windy Saturday afternoon. Hole #1 tee pad and hole #18 basket are near what appears to be a shipping container on the corner of the rear parking lot of the college. Course flows counter-clockwise around the lake through the forest and back with some slight elevations and a few doglegs in the mix. There are four par 4s with decent lengths that are open and mostly near the end of the course. There are some debris on a few holes that hopefully can be cleaned up: holes 8&9 have trees cut down, hole #11 has a tree in front of the tee pad, and holes 8&14 have some broken concrete and other materials in the fairways. A couple of holes have a lake to contend with if you go too long for hole #4 or too short for hole #12. Hole #12 has a safe route on the right side for the small arm players. The lake can also come to play on hole #11 if you overshoot and then have a rollaway down to the lake. The course has a good flow with a path of mowed grass serving many fairways. Holes 13-16 have areas of high grass and briars (especially briars along the fence on hole #14) outside of the fairways. Some players may find the tee pads to be a bit on the short side but I had no problem with them. I felt the course was somewhat balanced as far as all the uphills, downhills, and doglegs go. I do wish the par 4s were spread out a little more evenly or the course had at least a par 5 or some more wooded holes. I played this course after Apple Mountain on a day trip and this course was a nice surprise. I recommend playing this course if you're in this area.

Pros:

Interesting variety of holes. A couple of water dangers, one particularly scary 175 ft straight with bramble thorn underbrush impossibly gnarls jail on right and narrow slope to pretty lake on left... Or 250 plus over lake. Locals say they dong throw it on windy days. It was windy all three times I played and the wind blow differently over the lake than on the shore which requires a fairly hard heiser rhbh. Good variety of lengths and some truly unique holes with deep pits to get around or avoid. A lot of fun with some elevation change.

Good flow and most tees very easy to find. I never use maps, and when I was not sure it seemed the most plausible path was correct... With one exception. The pretty lakeside throw (not the nasty one) requires you couple back almost half way just inside the forest edge and then turn deeper into the forest. The plausible way is longer and leads down the edge of the fairway you will be throwing. A couple of signs would help. A delightful variety of prettiness from basket to basket. Cleaned and broken in i would rate this 3.5 easily, prettier than meeks, a little bit of Hobbs farm loveliness.

Cons:

Seemed pretty new (rough). On some of the roughs were piles of debris -- tires lumber and scrap metal overgrown by weeds, be careful if you throw into them. Also pretty easy its spend a loooong time searching in the waist high grass and weeds if you get off the fairway.

Other Thoughts:

Really enjoyed the course, attached to the tech college (part of the campus) and was designed after the nearby course in the state park was abandoned. I am pretty avg to below avg plus 5 275 ft drive once in a while a genuine 315 footer on flatland no wind. Most disliked the debris, and expect will be cleared up b college campus maint crew. Really odd technical shots and one very pretty lakeside shot. WELL worth the trip. That's why I came back two more times so far from my usual Jp moseley
