Great “Backyard” Course! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 27, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

Road Apple is the backyard every disc golfer dreams of having. Acres upon acres of both farmland and woodlands make for the perfect backdrop to a very good "backyard" course.

While I didn't get the pleasure of meeting the owner and caretaker Joe in person, he was very accommodating. I sent a text late Monday night and was able to play Tuesday morning/afternoon.

Each hole features three sets of tees, with total course lengths ranging from 3978' to 6105'. Several tees not only vary in distance, but provide paths to the basket based on skill level.

Navigation is flawless! There are colored arrows pointing the way, as well as paths carved throughout the woods. All tees and baskets are marked with the hole number, eliminating any potential confusion.

If you're expecting a cakewalk through this property, you are sadly mistaken. Road Apple will test every aspect of your game. There are plenty of technical wooded holes that test your shot shaping, with a few opportunists to air it out.

While there aren't many changes in elevation (see cons), creative basket positions compensate for a few holes that would otherwise be repetitive. The position on #13 is SWEET!

The upkeep is extremely impressive for a private course!

Cons:

Like mentioned earlier, most of the course is pretty flat. #10 is one of the only exceptions to this, with a random (but pretty steep) ravine coming into play.

Baskets are temporary (albeit very high quality), and tees are all natural.

There are obviously some spots on the course that drain very poorly. Could use a few extra pallets/bridges in some spots.

I never let this impact the score, but I'll put it in cons as a heads up to others. The bugs (especially for April) were BAD. Make sure you pack some extra spray!

Other Thoughts:

Road Apple shattered my expectations! It was a high quality experience that I would recommend if you're anywhere in the area.
