Great for beginners 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 21, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course is nothing special, its open with exception of a couple shots. It's short, not a shot above 300ft. It does have a couple blind tee shots though toward the end that add a bit of challenge, holes 9 and 12. What this course is though is VERY beginner friendly.
Having two young kids, 7 and 5, this course is playable with their lack of arms. And a great place for them to learn. Though no challenge exists for me, it makes for much more fun when my daughters can throw a hole and have a chance at par (course par is a joke and much easier than it should be)

Cons:

The shots are all basically open shots with very little distance, figuring out where you need to go can be difficult at first, but once known its relatively easy. Grass tee's for every hole. Though the ground is in great shape, probably because no one really plays the course, the grass tees i find severely hinder my distance as i'm not accustomed to it.
They don't use some of the greatest features of the area. That being the pond and the high point hill.
It's only 12 holes long even though they could easily make it 18 with just a couple changes and mostly just adding holes in the space they have.
Finding your way from hole 9 to hole 10 can be difficult as the path seems a bit overgrown.

Other Thoughts:

In summary this is a great course to play if you are taking young kids out to play, or first timers. But a seasoned player will get nothing out of this course.
I could see playing specialty rounds with people here and it being fun though, One disc rounds. Chose your opponents disc rounds. Stuff like that, but nothing for a serious competition.

Glad I came back after not being able to play it 2 years ago! 2+ years

Pros:

1) Awesome property for a high school course if you ask me. It uses a lot of the perimeter property around the school. It even has a lake on it, unfortunately the lake is not incorporated into play you only walk around it and throw 1 teeshot from near the water, but in the opposite direction.

2) DGA Signs or copies of that sign. Par, Hole #, distance a general diagram and next tee arrows indicated on the tee signs which is helpful.

3) Rules sign also available at the first tee along with a mailbox . . . but there were no scorecards or maps in there unfortunately.

4) Very beginner friendly but it is fun still for even non beginners . . . thats not something all courses can pull off!

5) The finishing holes are the best part of the course . . . it would be a shame to miss them.

6) Apple tree hole is unique and interesting having to try and go up and over them or the hardway around them from left to right.

7) Nice undulating areas on a couple of the holes.

8) All in all just good balance on this course. Nothing shocks and awes you but there are subtle differences on each hole whether it be the trees in your way and their location, the cluster of trees surrounding #3 basket the Apple trees forcing either a tight straight shot or an up and over shot, the slight elevation changes, the dense rough ont he right of #8, the fallen tree on Hole #9, the troublesome evergreen behind the basket on #10, or the low ceiling on #11 or the sharp turn on Hole #12 around a massive cottonwood tree.

Cons:

1) Way to similar of hole distances on these holes. I like more variation to force me to use different discs.

2) The best part of this property was the pond and although they got us to walk around it, they could have easily used it to create a pretty cool hole too. Again this is a negative from my perspective fromt he outside but I am sure the designer was given certain guidelines and using the pond was probably not allowed.

3) Course flow is disrupted from #9, many people I would imagine walk off at this point because I could easily see missing the route to #10.

4) Grass tees although limited play probably is keeping them as healthy as they are.

3)

Other Thoughts:

Its not as good as some of my other 2.5 disc courses, but it also has a nice balance of shots and hole types to keep it interesting. There are no outstanding holes, just a good balance of challenge on most of this 12 hole course and for that reason I simply cannot alter my rating from the average rating.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 4, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This is a good course for beginners. It was designed for middle/high school players as the course difficulty shows. The course has recently had new signs posted at the beginning of each hole. There are some challenging holes for right handed back hand players, namely #4 and #9. The course is on school grounds and is often well maintained.

Cons:

There are no holes longer than 300 feet and many holes are very straight forward, with some holes having no obstacles whatsoever e.g. hole 6. If you haven't played the course before, finding holes 10 and 11 may be difficult to find. Some holes, in particular 12, can be wet and slick after rain. Course flow is not entirely intuitive especially around holes 2,3, and 4. Play while school is in session is not allowed. The course is only 12 holes long with potential for more holes. The course does not take advantage of the pond by hole 10.
The school has stopped providing score cards in the mailbox by hole 1.

Other Thoughts:

There is lots of open space on the school grounds which allows a player to make up there own holes in a sense. I often extended hole 7 by starting at the top of the hill. As another reviewer suggests, playing across the pond using the markers for holes 10 and 11 can be fun.

Pros:

This course is great for practicing different shot types. No hole is over 300' long, and there are only 12 holes so play time ranges anywhere from 30-40 min. There isn't many obstacles on a few of the holes, which makes it great for beginners. The apple orchard on #4 makes it very challenging to land close to the hole on the first shot. #10 is a short par 3 that is nicely protected by trees and giant bushes.

Cons:

Area around #10 and the #12 tee can get muddy after rain. Lack of trees on some of the holes takes away from the challenge. A couple of the tee signs are broken off so people unfamiliar with course wouldn't know the par. It feels as if the pond should have been put in play on #10.

Other Thoughts:

The tee signs on #6 and #8 are broken, but they are both par 4s. A tee of from across the pond on #10 could add difficulty and add another par. All in all, it shouldn't be difficult to get a good score on this course.

fun little course 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 27, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

A little better than your average pitch and putt school course. Well maintained. From points north, to Madison, nice little stop; just off highway, to stretch the legs; play decent disc, and make a few ace runs on holes of moderate length; most 200 to 280.
Hole #4 nicely guarded by fruit tree orchard. Some elevation.
#9 is a tight, anheiser (rhbh) dogleg (or forehand/rhbh).
#12 is again, fairly short, but an extreme dog leg for opposite handed player.
This course was largely designed by Duster Hoffman; who has many fine Madison courses on his resume; Elver, Hiestand, Baraboo, etc.
He designed this course for young people learning the game. However, nearly every hole has the length between bucket and next tee to create your own long tee; should you decide to do so. Especially late in the course design, this would create a few wonderful holes.
Pond very clear, bluegill swimming in numbers.

Cons:

Rosendale a speed trap; so, obey speed limits. No play during school hours; as with all school courses.
There is a walk and a bit of navigation issue to find bridge near pond for some of the finishing holes.
From #9 walk to left of basket towards ball diamond home plate; you will find a little path on edge away from 3rd base line with bridge over marsh/stream. Cross bridge and you must walk all the way around pond to tee in distance. After 10 recross creek for final two holes.)
Natural tees. They are in excellent shape for a course that's been around quite a while.
This leads to another plus....I've never seen another group playing here. You will have the course to yourself.
Tee sign for #11 missing at present. Hole in the ground evident where it used to be.

Other Thoughts:

First tee directly behind small teacher parking area, in front of school. Note the mail box by first tee.
Box often has scorecards inside.
This course does not use the pond at all! Therefore, to add to your playing pleasure; invent a few holes near pond. Shoot one over pond to #10, and then play a championship level shot from near #10 bucket to #11. #11 bucket to #12 bucket nice shot also.
I've enjoyed playing this one for years.
Nice little old style course.
