Rudd Lake DGC plays around a "borrow pit" formed to a recreational lake area on the east edge of Rudd, IA. Play is counter-clockwise starting near the boat ramp on the western shore. Lengths are mixed from a short 132' (#1) to a couple of boomers (#3 at 674' and #9 at 591'). There are some sparse trees to work around that might effect your shot shapes occasionally, but not much. While the marshy shore isn't too far away, for most holes, it would take a pretty errant throw to end up in it. The most danger is across the eastern tip of the lake on #6 or roll offs down from the #7 and #8 baskets. The first time I went to play here, it was the 4th course of the day and I skipped it fearing a need for a very straight shot to stay out of the water. Once I played the course, this is really a non issue. There is a wide enough amount of space on either side of the lake to make it not really in play that much. Rudd is right along US18 (Avenue of the Saints) and while access to that part of the park is a little quirky, follow the directions and you're fine. Adding some signage would help a bit (although navigation wasn't hard and I added a map) Not a destination course by any means, but nice enough for a stretch of your legs or if you live in the area. I might play again, if in the area.

This course has excellent quality Innova pro-28 baskets and grassy fairways that appear to be mowed regularly. There are significant chances to find OB fences and water on some holes. Several holes will play as par 4s even for more experienced golfers. A monster arm can try to reach some of these but with the wind and OB, there is definitely some challenge.

Unusually small tee-pads for some fairly long holes.

The holes are repetitive and mostly wide-open. Not much thought is required, just let it rip.

You're playing along a multi-use paved trail that runs right through all the fairways. Looks like the park doesn't get much use so it is probably not a major con.

No signage -- it's easy to navigate but it would be great to know the hole distances.

Shoreline is swampy, and very difficult to access. You might lose a disc that is right at water's edge.
