Pros:

-Decent baskets
-Quiet area to play in
-Nice scenery

Cons:

-Very tight lines
-Rubber tee pads, not always level
-Very basic signage (stick w/Hole # and distance)
-Long walks between some holes
-Last 2 holes seem tacked on

Other Thoughts:

The Woodland Trail plays through the "Top-of-Hill" area of Oakland Mills Park just SW of Mt. Pleasant, IA. This is the second course in the park with Riverview Disc Golf on the north side of the river and this in the woods on the south side. The holes here are numbered 10-18 to make a round. This is 180 degrees from Riverview. The lines are tight, generally following a hiking trail through the woods. Lots of elevation and lots of extra walking between holes. While Riverview is open and seems very thought out, the "back 9" here seems jammed in and haphazard. The last couple of holes even seem tacked on along the edge of an open area. I'm all for some technical, but this didn't float my boat. And calling it the "back 9" to Riverview just adds to the oddness. These 2 courses are real opposites. Riverview - Open except for #8 : Woodland - Tight except for #17 and #18. I would rather play Riverview twice than wind my way through here. And would rather play East Park than either. You could add it to your bagging queue, but I won't play this one again.

Walk with nature.... 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 5, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

WOW!! The scenery and river view have not changed since the previous review. Really glad I stopped on my road trip.
Course was marked well and very easy to navigate. Great use of elevation and the trail to make for a variety of shots (and one I had no idea how to throw at - #15!!) (First seven holes wind through the trail.)
No concrete pads- but the use of rubber mats was almost as good, and certainly better than grass or dirt.

Cons:

No one out while I was there, but could see where other trail users could be in the way. Last two holes (#17-18) were a disappointing finish. Just straight throws down and up the hill to finish.

Other Thoughts:

As much walking as there was between some of the holes, it seems the last two holes could have been configured somewhere in between. I would have upped my score to at least 3.5 had that occurred. Was a really fun course to play and walk through, but it finished with a whimper!!

Disc Golf Nature Trail 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 26, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

• Located up on a bluff next to the Skunk River. The Course plays along a nature trail through the woods. Very scenic and enjoyable!
• New Innova DisCatchers have been installed! A much needed upgrade to the previous baskets.
• alt pin locations have now been added. During leagues pin locations can change/rotate on a weekly basis.
• Signs: Tall Posts with Numbering and Distance have been installed.
• Tight and technical, winding and rugged with varying terrain. With the exception of the last two holes, the fairways play along narrow trails through the woods. This course has a degree of difficulty that makes it very challenging.
• Varying terrain. Rolling hills throughout this course. You'll be up and down throughout the course.
• Risk/Reward comes in the form of narrow fairway shots. Good drives can be deflected easily.
• Beginners and non-players can play here.
• Riverview DGC is just across the river
FWIW
• Course is located in a Nature Park with plenty of interesting Non-DG activities.
• Multiple Nature trails on site
• Check out the Swing Bridge while you are visiting this course!
• The walk from #16 to #17, takes you on a trail that walks along a Cliff that looks over the river and the Riverview Disc Golf course. Awesome View!

Cons:

• Navigation May be tricky on your first visit. After you've played it once, it's easy to remember.
* Remember, after you complete the first Basket, you'll see a teepad going up the hill. Walk past this teepad and cross the bridge to get to the next tee.
• Typically, I don't comment on "Unfairways", but these fairways are frustratingly tight. Even after you become accustom to them, they still aren't any easier. Still requires a fair amount of luck to not tap a tree. Even the best golfers in our leagues, fall victim to these fairways. Especially the brutal #14
• Numbering. It's numbered to be an extension of Riverview, which is across the river, creating a quasi-18 hole course. These courses don't connect, and it may cause a little confusion. This course starts with #10.
• Lots of Non-DG Activities! As I said, it's a nature park with a Nature Center and campground. It's not uncommon to see a summer camp, school trip, or other events taking place at this park. It's not DG exclusive, which means you could very easily run into other trail walkers taking in the sights.

Other Thoughts:

The Woodland Trail is a 9 hole course that winds and bends along a tight and narrow nature trail. You will play more conservatively here, because accuracy is key. The fairways are shorter, but the challenge is greater. In my experience, you will like it or hate it. Personally, I enjoy tight and technical courses like this! Even though it's tight, technical and challenging, it's still fun to play. However, this course has left me highly frustrated many times.

You won't need any special footwear, but I'd still recommend something covered. There are no gas stations nearby, so bring your own liquids. Just remember to share the path with the Non-Disc Golfers. This is a nature trail as well.
