Well, I know that everybody here seems to have a hatred for the groove, but i'm not really sure why. I don't own one, but according to innova's flight ratings it is very fast (which means not many people would be able to throw it correctly), and has lots of glide. I tried out one that a freind owns and it flew pretty straight, but the weird rim groove felt pretty weird. So why does everybody hate it so much?

I have never thrown one so dont include me in your everybody hates them theory :D

I threw a Groove a couple times and I didn't see what was so horrible about it. Flew pretty straight with less effort than a Destroyer. I'm not big on distance drivers though.

There are a total of 5 people in the world that seem to realize that. :D

Most people I see begin DG with a high speed distance driver.

Throw a few more grooves.

Katana has given me 30 to 40 more feet to make my game better.

IMHO :)

Grooves:

-are wayy too high speed for a high amount of players to power correctly

-are too inconsistent for those who can power then

-and have this really annoying groove in the rim that actually makes them more impossible to grip than other 13 speed drivers.

=grooves suck.

My brand new field tester Groove flies understablish.

My pretty destroyed looking one I found on the course is a meathook and a half.

Both 175 Champs.

I don't throw them because I don't have the arm for that fast of a disc, but these both tell me I don't really need one.

For what it's worth the Groove I tried out, I found in the middle of a fairway, brand new, uninked, looking like it had been thrown only once or twice. Bright orange in a patch of short, green grass with no underbrush around isn't easy to miss either.

:D

i dunno, i traded mine to a guy for a roadrunner.

i hated it, he loves it

diff'rent strokes, etc...

someone finally had enough headache from that Groove, and just sacrificed it to the DG gods and left it on the fairway...

I like the groove and monarch. I haven't found them to be that inconsistent and do fly really well if you are consistent and smooth in your throw. I wouldn't ever buy a groove because like it has been said previously that there are better discs to do what it is supposed to do. The monarch, though, is one that I really couldn't do without. It can go dead straight 340 with little fade and just 7-9 feet off the ground. That is a valuable thing to have in the bag.

Nothin wrong with distance drivers in the hands of someone who's learned the fundamentals and has developed them.

Thanks I Kid cuz I know you can handle it and often drop some great knowledge for us here.

Are grooves oop yet? Monarchs have a similar rim but are more consistent? I haven't had much experience with them.

they seem to be out of the same mold, groove on the top. I don't throw innova though:)

Guess I need to look at the pulse. I like the feel of the groove and when I first got it I thought it would end up being great.

I usually will leave grooves on the ground ot give them to noobs to throw.

Too much funk already in my bag I guess.

The pulse has the groove on top of the plate.

It has a nice feel as your thumb will fit right in the groove.

There's two kinds of pulses (pulsi?), the super overstable kind and the not so overstable, kinda squirrelly kind. (YMMV).

I do like the Monarch as well, I don't think the groove is necessarily why the Groove sux. I think it sux b/c Innova lied to us (Noodle arms rejoice! yada yada) and b/c no two Grooves have flown the same for me at all.

yeah, innova has never explained what the speed rating on their discs actually means very well. Most n00bs would just think "oh its really fast so i'll be able to bomb it like 500 ft!!!" then they go to the course and throw a 150 foot n00b hyzer.

They do put out flight charts that show the intended flight path of the disc and about how far they expect it to travel, which one could look at and see which discs listed distances most closely match their own. It's better than nothing.

yeah, i do really like that they actually have a good rating system for the glide, and actual flight path for the disc. I have had issues with discs actually flying like they say they should, but that's probably because of my crappy form. I wish that discraft would give you a better idea of how their discs fly, because a single number doesn't really tell you that much. This is kind of off topic from the original topic intention though.
