[Innova] New distance record WIIIIITHHH....

Yep discers dig the long haul! that is amazing. he better watch his back cause in about 3 years and 65 cycles of steriods and a tornado pulling my AnHyzer Blizzard Katana ... no wait he still got me by three feet scratch that.

Maybe it's because Im not a fan. I just think it should only be legal for seniors, people with disabilities, women, and young kids.

a) He's a young kid.

b) You're a young kid.

Go pick up a few more blizzard discs, pronto.

btw, I used to feel the same way about electric can openers until I found myself with two broken arms at the same time. lol

The guys from Mythbusters used one of the hangers. The big hanger is 1,133 feet (343 m) long and 308 feet (93 m) wide. Not sure on what it would cost to rent, but it would be cool to see some big throws in there.

Mythbusters has a far larger budget than innova would, the height could be an issue. Also keep in mind you need room for spectators, cameras, ect. One of the largest open buildings in the world would barely be large enough.

i don't get the blizzard hate... it's plastic, it's legal, what's the problem? when people were throwing the r-pro boss farther than what they had thrown previously did you have a problem with that?

The big hanger is 198 feet (60 m) high at the center. That should be high enough. Also, the throw(height and angle) might change a bit when there is no wind.

The world record for indoor distance is still 471 feet. Seems like these guys could easily smash that if they had a big enough hangar.

Here is the recap for yesterday at HDDCIII as posted by Dr Wiggins on PDGA

Today conditions were not as good as yesterday. We met at 10 AM but it was raining and the lake bed was muddy. By noon things had dried up and the lake bed was dry. The wind was inconsistent 3 mph to 15 mph but not steady and diminished throughout the day. most throwers did not throw 3 sets due to insufficient winds. There were a couple new throwers and a couple personal bests set. Best throws as follows:

Jeff Stoops 140 meters
Suzette Simons 101 meters - NEW PERSONAL BEST
John Hime 160 meters
Joey Madrid 188 meters
Erin Hemmings 204 meters
Marc Jarvis 220 meters
Shawn Stokes 147 meters - NEW PERSONAL BEST
Justin Anderson 130 meters - NEW PERSONAL BEST
Tamara Conley 65.5 meters - NEW PERSONAL BEST
David Wiggins Jr. 229 meters

The third round today will end at noon local time as the organizers have to catch a flight. Forecast is for 5 - 10 mph winds. Although currently it is calm. Another new record at this event is unlikely.

I am at the event and I witnessed the record throw. David Wiggins set the new world distance record on the fourth throw of his second set on Friday afternoon. David was throwing 150 Blizzard Bosses, but for the record throw, he decided to throw a lighter 134 Blizzard Boss. David used a 360 run up. There is a video of all five throws in the set and the subsequent measuring.

The guys throwing over 200 meters are all throwing Blizzard discs and all are using traditional distance throwing 360 run ups. These guys are not throwing disc golf shots, but pure distance shots. They are at the top of this discipline. What they gain on dry lake beds is the ability to stretch their personal bests a few extra feet. It is like top cyclists use body suits and aerodynamic equipment to reduce drag and shave off a few milliseconds. If you put that stuff on, it won't magically enable you to break a record. Just like the average big thrower can't join the exclusive "200 Meter Club" simply by throwing on a dry lake bed.

The area has the potential to produce steady strong winds which can assist throwers. However, gusty conditions add to the challenge. The dry lake bed is also useful in that it is an extremely flat surface that extends in all directions. If the wind shifts, the throwers can easily shift the directions of the throws off the line. These competitors also take a chance traveling here that the conditions for the event are favorable. Planning an event months in advance and then not having cooperative weather adds financial risk for these top distance throwers in seeking a record. It is not like someone says, hey, it will be windy this weekend in Primm, let's go!

way to go wiggins...

but i like double GG....wish he would break out the 360 throw! the guy bombs throwing regular...can't imagine what he could do with a 360 if he ever decides to do it.

Didn't he say that the 360' is for wussies during an interview with Terri?

Young as in 13 or 14 and under. Im 16 which is young but im not a little kid and wiggins is not either.
That was really funny being that wiggins is a kid in high school. Blizzard is the bomb!
Again little.

I think it's fun that people presume themselves to be important enough to make statements like, "it shouldn't count."

Like the guy who set the record is going to hang his head at the lack of approval from a weekend discer reading DGCR and eating a bag of Cheetos.

Sorry, but that's a really dumb statement. These aren't some kind of magical cheater discs. They are still high speed discs that have no business being in the hands of children, seniors or noobs that don't have the power for them.

True. I understand what your saying. Just stating an oppinion. Not being a dumbass like the guy up there. I get more distance off my 172 wraith over my 134. I just don't like blizzard. Ive had many people throw them and nobody likes it. I've only seen one person at the course have one in his bag. Throw in 5mph wind and blizzard is useless at that.

Sounds like your form is what's off. My blizzards handle a lot stronger winds than that. Way to form an opinion on a line of plastic with one disc in one mold.

My 134 blizzard Teedevil is my go-to moderate headwind disc. Given, I'm pretty much a noodle arm, but it flies like a teedevil should. The only one that should be that flippy is a 130's Katana.

I have a 138 pretty seasoned Blizz boss that I hyzerflip into a headwind no problem.
