Post a cool disc golf photo

A tone pole is one of a few different type of disc golf targets. Basicly its a pole that makes a pleasing sound when your disc hits it (no basket). It harkens back to the early days of the sport, before we had baskets, and had to play object golf, using trees, poles etc for holes. You don't need fancy things like baskets to play dg.

I'd be really interested in getting in touch with this guy to talk about exactly how he builds them. I've researched them online, but tonepoles seem to be a really grassroots sorta thing without much spec standards. My main trouble is figuring out the best way to attach the pole to the post while keeping a good "gong".

Cut a circle about 2-3" out of a tire tread[needs to be at least 3/4" thick]. Drill a hole in it and put this between the metal tone and the pole, and bolt down but not tightly. This should allow any solid metal to ring nicely, as long as there is good space between the tone and pole.

I'll see if I can get some specifics from him.

So, the tonepole isn't actually "loose" on the post, but secure? Interesting.

That's a nice little spot on the course. Holes A, B, and C are pretty fun.

Please tell me you skipped over the first pad for hole C and walked over to the other side of the road and pond for the long pad.

That is still one of my favorite courses. Great pic by the way....

Good loud tonepoles are a thing of beauty. The best ones I've seen were made by one of our local golfers "Chainsaw", and are affectionatly called "Chainsaw tones". They are so loud and clear, that I once hit an ace on one, and it was still vibrating and ringing slightly by the time I got up to it.

Is there anyway to post the audio from one on here?

I'm already using the sound of chains for my text sound on my phone, maybe I'll make the tonepole sound my email alert. :p

Funny. I made a chains one for my phone when it rings. It doesn't even disturb people on the course. I have been thinking about using the tonepole sound for texts for a while.

p.s. you should have waited to get you 707th course for BOP or something up here in the 707.

The only problem is that I'm constantly reaching for my phone on the course when someone putts out on an adjacent hole. :)
