Disc Golf Rule Nazi Stories

Luckily, the majority of the players in my division, in my area, know and comply with the rules, so it's not a big issue for any of us.

This is one of the many reasons why I kind of play up a division locally, people are having fun still but typically know the rules and follow them. Seasoned players that have been through events, know the rules, and play by them willingly.

Our local point series can definitely bring in some "chuckers" to the lower divisions that know nothing about the PDGA, ACTUAL rules and the proper way to play an actual event. Although these event are not sactioned, they do follow PDGA rules other than beverages and the 2m rule is usually out unless specified by the TD.

Stories I've got... (dbra-db rules abuser)

Teeing off one hole, my drive bounces on the landing and rolls down a hill into the tree line. Dbra calls it OB from the teepad. I ask him how that determination was made and his response was that he 'knows' that area is marked OB. Oddly, after his own drive also rolls down the hill, he reverts to 'only marked OB is OB' with no further discussion.

Another hole, my disc is stuck in a tree. Dbra calls me OB. Again, I ask for his basis and his reply was the '10 feet rule'. I clarify that the '2 meter' rule is discretionary and was not in effect unless said otherwise by the TD.

Another hole, a Dbra's about to tee off when he stops, goes to his bag, takes out a chicken tender, and begins to munch on the teebox. My card mates ask 'wtf' and he replies he's feeling light headed and needed food.

Same hole, dbra is about to putt when the wind starts to pick up. He casually stops, grabs a smoke and lights up. Again cardmates ask 'wtf' and he replies he has 30 seconds to wait for the wind to die down.

Different hole, dbra has a 5ft drop in. He walks up before the group determines farthest out, clears out his putt with a quick 'just cleaning this gimmie up for you guys.'

Another time, I witnessed a World's champ call a dbra on a falling putt. Dbra immediately responds the disc was in the basket before he moved forward. Champ states the rule, to which Dbra says he was more the 10m out. Champ walks it out and its indeed less than 10m. Finally dbra says 'we don't play that way.' F if I know who 'we' was.

Another time, group is trying to find a lost disc. Someone starts the clock, but I notice Dbra is casually walking the fairway, looking for the lost disc while looking at his phone. I announce to the group to stop the clock (not my disc, not sure I can) and I ask dbra to 'really, please help look'.

Different scenario, during a casual round I ask a local in our group not to keep count. This local insists he must as that is an essential part of the game. Alas, this dbra seems to 'accidentally and repeatedly miscount' when he is losing. Once this particular dbra tried to use a fancy app for better score keeping, but by hole 13 he was asking for scores on hole 9. Apparently there was a glitch or something. I think I lost a few strokes, but after spending 5 minutes discussing scores 4 holes ago, I really didn't care.

All of these stories represent 1 guy I play with about twice a year. This year, maybe just once, after he asked for my remaining water (of which I had meticulously rationed for 18 holes) as a chaser for his liquor.

Tl;dr- Db rules abuser is a db.

This is now allowable. Pace of play issue, anyone can putt if it won't interfere with anyone else.

No, it is allowed all the time now. Only if there is an objection, like if someone is ready to throw and somebody steps in front of them cluelessly and tries to clean up a gimmie They can be asked to stop.

had this one douche from small town north dakota keep tryin to call me on foot faults. he was all mad cuz he was leading after the first day, and on the second i had a comeback from 3rd place cuz i can flick and he couldnt anny and his game was falling apart. he called me on a foot fault from a fairway drive, whatever we let it slide. then on a falling putt. which was true i can admit to it. then bitched on one hole about me not lining up my mini right with my disc that landed. i should have lined it up like an inch over supposedly. everyone was getting pissed at him. then on another he said my tip toes were on my mini? haha wtf. looked at him wondering how he got out of his barn. anyways i scored better than him.

funny thing on the 3rd one idk where your from but we dont do that in nd. hahahaha im from the twin cities. fool i dont care what you do out at your barn in your small country bum town. when no one else is agreeing with you, and you keep calling it (probably to try to kill my mental game but didnt work) you just seem like an a-hole.

this was all in rec division and nothing was ever called on anyone else.

whatever done with my rant

Can you cite where the rule book says this?

801.05 D To facilitate flow of play, a player who is not the away player may throw if the away player consents.

This still indicates that consent of the away player is required.

PDGA General Rules 801.05 Order of Play states:

D. To facilitate flow of play, a player who is not the away player may throw if the away player consents.

So yeah, consent is needed, but it has evolved to implicit understanding of allowing gimmie clean ups unless someone objects.

This I am a rec player and most people here will say "Hey, I am guessing you don't know the rule but if you do this, it could be a stroke or a re throw if I were to call it, honestly I don't care, but if you are playing tourneys and move on from rec people will call you"

There's no such thing as implicit consent. If you want to putt out of turn, ask the away player first.

I had a stroke called on for dropping a disc in my bag from a standing position... After throwing an OB. Bad bad hole.

I thought if you tossed it to your bag it counted, but if you dropped it on top it didn't? I don't know the rule, but was told this once.

If it travels more than 2 meters, it's considered a practice throw and a stroke penalty. Just dropping it into your bag should not count as a stroke.

Unless you are like 6 feet tall and you drop it from a ladder.

The reason i asked is because I threw it back to my bag when I brought two discs with me. The person said "Hey we all know you are not using this disc, but I am telling you because someone else may call you on it later down the road" But didn't really say on the distance.

Horizontal distance.

If you bring two discs with you to your lie/tee. Just set one on the ground before you throw, never throw back to your bag.

Pretty much this is what I was told.

I thought about the fact that these threads always seem to end up the same. A bunch of players complaining about rule (most of which they do break) getting called on them, for what they percieve as the wrong reasons. Then, I realized, I learn quite a bit about the rules this way. Carry on. :p

Sounds like you constantly break rules.
