I am thinking of how important the midrange game is and how many discs I have. I want to lighten the load so I went back to the numbers and they confirm why I have so many. Here is what & when I use. I try to narrow it down to 5 prior to starting depending on course, wind, etc.

Dead straight, turn over or anhyzer
Buzzz 5, 4, -1, 1 or skeeter 5, 5, -1, 1

A little further with slight fade or wind
Gremlin 6, 5, 0, 2

A little more fade or more wind.
roc3 5, 4, 0, 3
I sometimes use a the Ti Buzzz when around trees or rocks, Glo Buzzz at night. I use more my Champion Skeeter around gravel roads, Gstar skeeter in light woods, dx skeeter for turnovers.

I also use a DX and S-line Gremlin depending on wind distance, ditto for the champion Roc3. Is this overkill?

So I am counting four molds, but with multiples of each?

If it keeps your scores low, go for it. Throw what suits your game and what you are comfortable with.

Yep, just the 4 molds. However, I use different plastics so much. Example I see a gravel road and say to myself I will chew a dx & grab the champion or Ti. o.k. when I play local & know what I use ahead of time. Not sure if have severe o.c.d when I play a new course I tend to bring them all = 8 - 9. I carry less drivers sometimes. still think I am sane?

I think having the extra and using the more durable plastic by the road or trees keeps the overall lot in good condition longer.

I would say you only NEED 4 discs that fit these descriptions:

- Beefy over-stable slot with strong fade that wont flip over even in most headwinds
- Over-stable slot that holds straight longer before fading
- Neutral slot that can have a little turn or hold an anny most of the way
- Flippy under-stable slot that can flip from flat to a turnover and not fade back much if any

The discs i use for each of these slots:

- Tensor (doesn't have a very beefy fade but the HSS is great in wind and gets the job done)
- Fresh Vector
- Very Beat Vector
- Beat Tangent

seems I agree with the 4 slots you describe and I just grow the 4 slots into 5 to 9 discs when I dont want to bash up my DX plastic. I think the Ti Buzzz will win out over the Gstar Skeeter. The Gstar is new so how much will I miss it? Going to the local tunnel shot hole today to decide if the Gstar is a keeper over the Ti Buzzz.

Same for me but different molds.

- star gator
- Ti Buzzz
- X Buzzz
- X Comet

beat up dx plastic is a thing of beauty.

Truth. Beat up KC is even better ;)

I am a four mid guy too.
I was throwing rocs for the last year but I've recently decided to give some local love to Gateway and chuck their mids for a bit.

Beefy: warrior
Straight with fade: karma
Straight to straight: element
Flippy: mystic

So far, so good on these molds. It's been fun to throw these as they're faster than rocs.

You don't NEED to fill any slots with a midrange. One works just fine but--

1 or 2 molds. Maybe 3 discs total.

IMO if you like the buzzz then that and something slower. There is no reason to have a OS mid, understable mid, straight mid, kind of OS kind of not mid... you have putters and fairway drivers too'

It seems like a lot of miss, but if you are mainly throwing midrange instead of fairway and max d, then it seems fine.

I am a three mid sort of guy, with a back up for the main.

Truth - in a happy broken in place
Truth - fresh and ready to get in the game

Well said... my four are
-Drone
-Wasp
-Buzzz
-Comet

Every shot is covered

Ask yourself,

Why do the top level pros carry at least 4 (some even up to 6 - 8) midrange discs in the bag with either different molds for different lines, multiples of the same mold in different stages of wear, and a mix of both?

For example Mcbeth has like what.. 4 rocs at different stages and Makos etc.. Not to say that just because the pros do it makes it the BEST way to do something.

It's better to let a disc do more of the work for you, in my opinion. As opposed to trying to force 1-2 discs to do something they are not the best at doing.

But you def don't NEED more than 3-4, i would say.

Ask yourself in4d,

Why bag discs NO pro has used to win a championship? Because you use what works best for you. You don't need a ridiculous amount of mids, but some people choose to. Preference preference preference.

I basically agree with the "four mids" idea; however I carry a fifth mid with lots of glide to cover long, low approaches (e.g. tunnels, low-hanging branches, etc).

Hey bud, You need to wake up and realize most pro's throw the same damn disc on every damn hole. Sure their bags are full of discs but the ones they actually USE as go-to's really never change molds. Basically its destroyer/Roc/Aviar

You don't need 4 ****ing mids. I would kill half the players on this site with just a putter and driver. Mids are the TRUE tweeners. When you can throw your putter 325+ confidently and understand the superior benefits to a faster disc for greater stability (ex. fairway vs OS mid) then you figure out that carrying more then 3 different midranges is a waste of bag space.

You are comparing a professional disc golfer to someone who started an OP about sliming down their bag.

I carry one mid and would slaughter you on the DGC. Start reading the OP's.

Agreed, my go-to Vector is used on almost every hole that i need midrange distance for because I can make it cover most of the lines i would ever need.. Although, there's always something that i just can't do with a single disc. For example when its very windy, angles requiring big turnover that only a truly under-stable disc can accomplish (forehand flight path is not the same as a turnover), etc. I just feel the need to have those more rare circumstances covered even if I dont use the disc that often. That's why i advocate for 3-4 midrange discs is all you would ever NEED, but anymore would be overkill.

If you feel you can do everything under any circumstance with one disc, that's great!

Now that just hurt my internet feelings
