2014 United States Disc Golf Championship

The first time I saw McCray play in person was probably 95-96. I realized then that he was on a whole different level than most players. It's fun to see him at the top of his game almost 20 years later. Brinster is a similar story.

Of the younger players who do you think will still be around and kicking ass 15-20 from now?

You're better off for having watched the video
I haven't watched a tournament in a few years, but I do plan on watching some of the archived stuff on DGPTV including some USDGC. I saw the final playoff hole from Worlds, and then scanned video from today to find out who won. Production value looks like it's gone way up, cool to see that kind of environment.

Damn good stuff, if you ask me.

I agree. It was an exciting and refreshing change to watch the guys at the top of the game get a solid butt-whipping from the course. Perhaps from the players' perspective the course was excessively difficult? I'll be interested to hear their comments now that it's over. From a spectator's perspective, I thought it was great.

Now that juju has walked away with his hands in the air, and we don't have to read any more of his ridiculousness, what did you guys REALLY think about how it all shook out??

Also, pretty sure you couldn't stream the action from a laptop in your living room in 2003 when Kenny and Barry duked it out.

I agree, just as enjoyable as the Worlds finish, different, but just as enjoyable... I was yelling at the screen with every throw... and honestly if everyone could hit every putt within the circle every time, park every drive and never miss an upshot, it would be incredibly boring. and don't let juju fool you, he hasn't gone anywhere he just knows his argument lacks merit. I guarantee you he's reading these comments still. McCray's meltdown, PB's persistence, Will resurgence(about time too), and McBeth looking human for once(I had picked him to go "wire to wire" with the win) made for great spectating.

I watched almost all of the final round live. Sure there were some mistakes, but it was exciting to watch. I had a feeling will was going to win early on. He seemed under control, when the rest of the card was up and down.

What is this?

:hfive:

I know juju is lurking.

Guessing he hasn't commented because he took a landline phone call and it kicked him off the internet.

I'm happy that Will won and I hope he can keep it together for next year, but what I saw was Paul give up a 5 stroke lead. He shot 2 of his lowest rated rounds in any major or NT this year and happened to string them back to back in the most prestigious tournament he has yet to win. He's human and you could see the emotional drain that the tournament had taken on everyone. It may not have been out in front of the camera, but in the background of the coverage you could see everyone squating down, hanging their heads, pacing around just trying to survive the last two rounds. I'm sure you'd have seen this across a bunch of the cards today. The final 9 holes were a roller coaster where you saw equal amounts good play and breakdowns. It may not have been perfect shot after perfect shot, but it was dirty, gritty, real life disc golf that mirrored the experience a good disc golfer may have playing their own tournament. Winthrop and the conditions teased us with great scores on day one and proceeded to be unforgiving of even the smallest mistake the next three days. I'd watch it again.

An image of DOTS. That's how we used to have to watch "live" coverage of USDGC before Disc Golf Planet came along. Each color represented a player in the lead group.

Ah ha. Thanks. I would not have watched that today... It would be interesting if you could seethe routes that everyone was taking, compare different players and whatnot.

It would definitely be cool to have more production value. I'd like to see each players previous drives on the same hole as they step up to the teepad.

There's definitely a lot they could do. With how much they've improved this year, I wouldn't mind seeing a second camera on the chase card. It would eliminate some downtime (and would probably help to tone down Crazy a little and reduce the complaining). That is, of course, more money, but it would be a great next step.

I like the idea though. They already have the footage. Why not use it if the person was recorded.

For what we have available, I'd say the coverage was decent. There were technical issues that were frustrating but it's not a network out there covering everything. The one thing that gets me when I watch the DGPlanet live coverage is that a lot of times people are just talking to fill dead air time and without much real value. Small ways this could improve:

Find a way for the commentator in the booth to communicate with the guy in the field in real time. We got a glimpse of what good conversation was when Paige and Greenwell were in the booth doing the commentary. It was fluid, informative and enhanced the viewing experience. Listening to someone guess while walking the course does not.

Better preparation by the commentators for downtime. Before the round starts have topics to cover, stats, trivia but keep them relative to the players and the tournament, not about the largest naked bike ride in the world. Sports casters have people assist them on channels like Fox and ESPN, but a little prep could go a long way.

Make sure whatever information you are relaying is accurate. Don't say people are in a tie or leading when we can check live scoring as easily as you can and see exactly what is going on. It may be a little thing, but hearing people relay wrong information hurts the broadcast and what it's trying to achieve.

I tuned in at 16 today but had to cut out after the drives on 18. The coverage was way better this year. I have to say Paige was a breath of fresh air. More of her would be great. She's a natural.

So # of NT's/Majors McBeth has played with the Thunderbird = 2, # of wins = 0 ...
