[Question] Line up of mid-ranges in the bag?

My favorite mid is a Champ Gator. For forehand anhyzer shots I've used a DX Wolf. For straight shots I've used a X-Link Medium Ibex. I've been experimenting with a Star Kite to use for longer right to left flick shots. And I've been using a Big Z Buzzz lately in place of the Ibex. It's been an ongoing tuning of the mid lineup. If I had to drop down to only 2 mids, it would be the Gator & probably the Buzzz. The Buzzz can handle turn-over shots fairly well, so it makes the need for the Wolf or Kite redundant.
Oh, and I've experimented with the Obex & the Suspect. Nice discs, but just too many mids for one bag, in my opinion.

More info here, I'd like to have 3 mid-ranges (maybe 4 if I really start to throw them more).
Have a Buzzz SS, soon have a proxy, Replacing Gstar rhyo with Scale/Harp or similar, use a banshee a lot (want to learn a slower more finesse OS mid for the shorter shots instead of throwing the banshee)

So what two mid ranges to complement that? Roc3 and Buzzz are strong candidates for neutral/mild stable; Gator, Verdict, Bard, or Buzzz OS for OS mids.

You might consider adding the Shark3 to your list of candidates. The Roc3 is beaded, the Shark3 non-beaded. The Shark3 is a bit more overstable than the Roc3, and might be the disc you want for that "slower, more finesse OS mid" compliment to the Banshee.

I got 3 z wasps overstable to slightly flippy, 1 kcpro wasp (flat top roc) for hyzerflip turn overs, and an old z comet for super flippy stuff. I also carry a justice and 2 tridents for overstable shots and really short fairway shots

What's your philosophy on spectrum of stability and variance of discs types specifically for mid-ranges?

I've almost always been a Roc guy (up until very recently, now use Ghosts) so that kind of lends itself to throwing baseline plastics, which leads to cycling midrange discs. I like having the same feeling disc in my hands for lots of different type of shots. I really also believe that if you learn the life cycle of a disc in baseline/mid grade plastic you will learn more about a disc than what it does only when new - basically what a premium plastic disc tries to stay for as long as possible.

In my tournament bag, you can usually find me carrying 3-4 ghosts and 1 comet. The ghosts are mainly protege/gravity (1 new protege, 1 new gravity, 1 worn in gravity), with one pinnacle for shots that need a more overstable finish. The comet is a nice compliment since you can throw it at a lower speed and still get midrange distance, easier to finesse than the faster/more overstable ghost.

There's not really a wrong or right way to approach how you handle your lineup. It's really just a matter of philosophy. I learned everything I know about disc golf - from how to throw, to how to approach the game - over at DGR. I kind of absorbed that style and have had what one of my friends calls a 'DGR Bag' for a long time.

Cycling discs isn't just a choice, it's a way of life :D

If you like the feel of the Buzzz, go with that and the Verdict and you'll be covered.

2006 USDGC Rancho Champ Roc
2008 USDGC Sanny Champ Roc
Proto Star Mako
XT Roc (or XT Atlas, depending on which way I rolled out of bed that morning)

Thanks a lot, Dave.

My Midrange line up from US-OS
Beat DX stingray
Worn KC Pro Roc
DX Roc3
Star Gator
FLX Drone

I've been doing a lot of practice with midranges of late, which has led to a few things that were not in the bag now being contenders for being in the bag. I'll be narrowing this down to 6 or so discs, but right now, this is what I'm working with:

Significantly understable: beat-up McPro Roc3 (this is staying)

Understable/straight: seasoned Z Comet, new Z comet, new Z Buzzz SS, new Mako3, worn ESP Buzzz, worn Rancho Roc

stable/straight: Z Buzzz, opto (or whatever) Warship, fresh Rancho Roc, new-ish McPro Roc3

slightly OS: Fresh Z Buzzz, star Roc3

So... I have some cutting down to do. That's like 13 discs, all of which I like!

I run two setups:

(3)Dx Rocs, Roc3 and MAKO3 (Really the Roc's could fill any slot but Im really confident with my Mak03 and the Roc3 just gives me the fresh Roc feel with a touch of extra distance. DX's I'll grab alot for flex shots and straight control shots)

DX Roc, ROC3, MAKO3 and Sockibomb Compass (DX Roc is a throw away for tight hole with water or cliffs. Roc3 same as above, Mako3 same as above and the Compass for wind but is used like my Roc3)

I rotate pending on the course with a couple of constants:

Constants: ESP Zone, X Comet (love these two, just very comfortable with them)
Rotatory: Handful of Rocs, Couple of Buzzz's, A bunch of wizards and another Comet

Three Rocs, Two Zones

Rocs
USDGC Champ for beef
KC Pro for straight with very mild fade
Ontario for turnovers

Zones
Well-seasoned Glo Z for long straights to fade
CryZtal for fresh Zone things

A Z Buzzz is enough for me.. Swap for a Wasp on windy days. Powered down Firebird and forehands cover the rest. Occasionally I'll throw in an extra putter that is beat if the course calls for it. I use a Nutsac primarily so no room for others. I also like knowing the Buzzz inside and out so another reason to keep it minimal. If I had five mid molds it would be hard to get consistent with them all
