New Hill, N.C. — A group of people playing disc golf Sunday afternoon stumbled on a burning body at Wake County's Harris Lake County Park. 1

Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison said the golfers spotted the fire in a wooded area about 50 feet off the golf course and, in trying to put it out, realized that it was a body and called 911.

There's more of the story if you click the link.

That gave me chills. Buckhorn used to be one of my home courses.

My brother, roughly two or so years ago, had an unnerving experience there.
Certainly not as horrific as the op.

There's something I never want to come across during a round... or during anything else, for that matter.

Wow. We almost did a Rock Ridge-Buckhorn combo yesterday. Glad we went Rockness-Sasquatch instead.

This was 3 of my buddies that found the body. At first they thought it was a forest fire and were just trying to put it out. That's when they noticed the body. I almost played with them yesterday too.

Half the media outlets referred to the players that discovered the body as "Frisbee golfers" and the other half referred to them as "disc golfers".

We still have a ways to go!

Wham-O still sells golf discs so the term "Frisbee golfers" is technically correct. :D

Respect your elders, and own the term "Frisbee golfer". OWN IT. :p

Oh yeah, the body. Interesting. Maybe the killer thought the cops would be dumb enough to think some hippie playing Frisbee golf might be responsible?
While we were doing the shuttle recovery in Texas in '03, in the 1000 square miles all firefighters gridded, four recent, unmarked burial sites of human bodies were found.

I have zero problems calling it Frisbee golf, so if I'm part of the problem, welll... I don't care. :\

The fact is, "frisbee golf" tells most people in the general public, particularly rural or older folks, what it is we're out there doing much better than "disc golf" does. It often gets follow up questions, at which point you can explain what it is you're actually talking about. Most people seem to be mildly curious, not critical or belittling of the term "frisbee golf."

If it breaks the ice, that seems like a positive. Any news is good news, or something like that. Except maybe burning bodies. That's bad news. I'll never understand (presumable) murder.

Yikes. Pretty terrifying.

The course is fairly remote from populated areas and usually very quiet. The scary part to me is that my buddies were walking from 18 back to 1 (technically hole 0) when they found it, so it was left there and torched while they were on the course. The other issue is if they had not gotten there as soon as they did, this could have become a forest fire that could easily have cut them off from their cars.

Glad they made it out safe. Definitely an unsettling situation.

Apparently a propane tank and cell phone were found near the body. So the sheriff is now saying they don't suspect foul play.
