DGA Blowfly I. Flips up on a slow rope.
It single handedly gave me the win last weekend at the Chavez Ridge Fling XXII. If you don't know the course, getting DeLa'd aint no thing. Granted it's super short, but getting Chavez'd a few times a round is almost a given. The course is on either side of a steep ridge above Dodger Stadium and Downtown LA.
Tree kicks usually sail down the hill side, and skittering layups or cage hits are a coin flip on whether they're going to end up in a roll away. When the Blowfly hits a tree it calmly folds up on impact and nestles somewhere by the base, and for my layups the thing sticks under the basket like a cowpie.
If anyone has some of the swirly purple/blue run, I'd be happy to take them off your hands.
Got my first ace with a Blowfly!DGA Blowfly I.
...Lucid-X Zach Melton Maverick, I own three, one I'm throwing, and two to cycle in...
I think you're going to be pretty disappointed with the Lucid-X's cycling ability. It's super durable. I had a downhill spike hyzer get away from me and land hard, on the edge of its rim, on the sidewalk. It's the sort of shot that can instantly thrash your disc, but my Lucid-X Felon barely got a scratch from it and didn't lose even a tick of stability. Regular Lucid would've flown like a different disc after that. I love Lucid-X for a disc that you want to hold its stability forever (especially by Trilogy standards), but I pick up other plastics if I'm expecting to cycle.
I loved my blowfly for how it sits, but I would also get some crazy rollaways with it. If it landed on edge, thing would roll at least 30' from the basket.
I mostly used it at the beach for catch in the ocean since it floated, but we lost it the other day on an overthrow. No clue where it ended up but we combed the area for a good 15 minutes and never found it.
To be fair, I also picked them up in case I loose one. I've lost a couple of different discs, so as it was the team disc, I wanted to get back up's because it works so well for me with my arm speed, all though in the last two weeks I've picked up a couple nine speeds and was shocked at where I was at.
I actually have 5 mavericks, first run that I switched to DD with, beat in nicely right now, and a lucid that really wants to run low all the time, ok sweet. I've been running a smaller bag so that comes in and out. Plus the 3 lucid x...
I know it's not well liked, but switching to Trilogy has really been key to making the sport a hell of a lot more fun for me.
I did notice those Lucid X's take a beating, I've had my orange in the bag for 2 months now and it looks like it never hit a tree...which, trust me, it has...
I actually throw the mold a lot and have been for a few years, but not in the specific plastic.
Pro Destroyers bomb!
I finally found a stack that has good dome and decent PLH. These things have me hyzer-flipping forehand, throwing huge (for me) backhand turnovers and generally effortless distance. Lots of people throw star destroyers, and if you do, do yourself a favor and try them out in pro plastic.
I used to only really use star destroyers for big any forehands and backhand skip shots. This plastic allows me to use them backhand without trying too hard or ruining my form trying to throw anhyzer-flex everything.
You know, my game wasn't broke, but I am an advocate of continuous improvement. So, I wanted to see if I could improve with new tools.
Over the last 12-18 months, I tried a handful of new molds, different weights, and plastics.
The vulture was my favorite driver, but I thought it was a lot like an Orc. I've thrown Orcs for years, and have a good number of that mold in different stages of wear. So, while I loved the way the Vulture flies, it didn't make sense for me to go through the 'beat in' process all over again. Vultures out, Orcs back in.
I've been throwing TeeBirds for years, as such, most of the ones I have are 11x era and difficult to replace. So, I started looking for a 'beat in TeeBird flight' out of the box. I tried Escapes, Heat, & Undertakers. All good discs, but not what I was looking for. Escape, Heat, Undy's out, TeeBirds in.
I've putted with Wizards & Challengers for years. I like the consistency of the Challenger more, but the Gateway plastic is better. I tried Judges in the last year. They were ok, but not as good (for me) as the Challenger or Wizard. Then I discovered RB Challengers - GAME OVER.
Throwing far is cool, but you'll save more strokes around the green than off the tee. I also tried a handful of new mids, but I think I prefer to throw utters instead...
As a putter thrower, I want to learn more about the Jokeri...
