What do you find most annoying about the new disc golf scene?

By the numbers, you geezers have the most disposable income. Do you own a disc golf rangefinder? Do you find real value in it?

No on the range finder, but I have considered it. We do a lot of bagging so I'm thinking of putting a pair of binoculars into the mix. I do have a Zuca though and recently bought a Grip EQ bag.

I was born with a great sense of judging distance. I'm afraid it wouldn't tell me anything I didn't already know.

That being said, my wife is in the beginning stages of her disc golf adventure and she obviously doesn't have my keen sense of distance and depth perception so I have been seriously thinking of getting one to help her along.

If she would use it as a learning tool and not lean on it like a crutch I would definitely get her one to help dial in her distance and help her select the correct disc for the shot.

I did caddy for group of women in a tournament last weekend and one of them was using a range finder before just about every shot and it was kind of annoying and really slowed down play. I don't want my wife to be that person.

I own one (Have owned Bushnell and Nikon both and I prefer the cheapie WoSports brand from Amazon) and use it all the time for work. Have used it maybe twice on the course in an event. Wish they were illegal for competitive play.

I'm trying to sell an older rangefinder that I used for ball golf....if I manage to sell it, I'm buying one for disc golf - I just cannot tell distance very well.

And us 'old geezers' really don't always have disposable income....retirement usually means a fixed income. My wife let me know I need to start planning now for what I'm going to spend my limited money on in retirement - disc golf won.

My depth perception is crappy (I wish it had been caught earlier in my life)....and I don't judge distances very well. What I do (or try to do)....is I look at a tee sign and find the distance....then I figure out how my distance compares to the hole. For example, my distance is 250, so on a 500 foot hole, I should be able to make it halfway...if the distance is 350, I should be able to make it about 2/3rds of the way. Then I find a spot in the fairway that is the distance I can make it....I can eyeball halfway or two-thirds, whatever. Then I have the spot I'm working to get to.

It's also throwing shade (at the youngsters :))

You will not find the quality of crap given to other old farts in your regular group in any other age division. Sometimes it only requires humming a couple of notes.... Marley's "Get up, stand up" first four notes works for our bunch. [emoji41] Not uncommon walking between holes to have most of a first verse passed up and down the single file of golfers.... totally spontaneously.... then we laugh and cackle our asses off. [emoji106] Good times!

I have a hole with a 250' water carry. I've become quite aware of how my max distance compares with that.

(Interestingly, a lot of people who claim that 300' is no problem for them, tend to sweat a bit on that tee. Just an effect of the pond-induced humidity, I guess).

I have a rangefinder. Got it as a gift last November. Used it on a couple of new courses that had no signage. Works well. We'll see going forward of its usefulness.

Shide's been using a golf rangefinder for at least a couple of years now. Not sure what brand or model it is, but he seems to like it.

My brother got me one for Christmas a few years ago. He knew it would help me measure new holes on courses I was working on. I also used it to measure a distance competition at a local tourney last year.

Never actually thought to put it in my bag. And, actually, I'm still not interested. :)

I prefer to carry as little as possible, so no rangefinder for me.

One advantage of not throwing far is it makes judging distance easier.

I feel sorry for those poor folks with big arms sometimes. :D

I bought a range finder with "pin lock" (move it sideways and it registers closest ping) under my business account. For power poles to utility's and distance measurements... Thinking maybe I'd use it on the course to mark signage.

It's depressing!! Still only mostly a work item. Never thrown it in the bag. Used it once..or twice for DG

Screw it I throw 300'...

Goddamn you technology

I'm having illusions of grandeur.. Last time to play a long course for a tournament, last chance at the "bolf course" .. Screw you autocorrect.. Golf my ass..

Ok yikes... ah well, tournament cold, I need form help, I'm finally goingto ask. One day. I'm so screwed and old, but I shouldn't be.. I feel bad at 46..

lol
I was born with esotropia, and so have awful depth perception and poor judgement of distance. :wall: if there are no tee signs/distance markings, it can be a crapshoot for me. I often walk back and forth in front of the tee right and left to get a feel for distance, and the spacing of branches. :D
but I have no intention of getting a rangefinder
