Holy ****. That place is terrible. It's the hive mind of Twitter soaked in vomit and try hards. The camping/bushcraft community has plenty of posers which is fine, their intentions are good and typically they just spent a little too much money - no big deal if they can afford it. Same with the car community. I support all noobs trying to progress in their sport/hobby/career/etc. Right on!

/r/discgolf just screams "people I never want to bump into on the course"

Today was my first day there (long time redditor) and I went through top/all time, controversial, top/week, etc. Place is saturated with inaccurate information and hoards of "team upvote" or "team downvote" depending upon the subject.

No offense, but this place is also a cesspool, just one with a thin veneer of useful information and at least some semblance of adulthood…

My impression of r/discgolf is that it is a ton of teens (or even younger) who are just making up posts and opinions to try to belong, coupled with the usual assortment of reddit trolls and general reddit uselessness. I am sure there are helpful/knowledgeable/good folks there as well…?

Lol hot take

Reddit screams "people I never want to bump into. Ever."

Well, most of the subs that is. If you want down votes just post an opinion. Funny how we live in a society that brow beats the tolerance message but once someone tosses out an unpopular opinion that tolerance disappears. The hypocrisy in this society is breathtaking.

So funny league story tonight. Played with 3 newer players, all were cool. I got there 10 minutes before we started, no warmup and relied on beer muscles in the 100+ heat index.

With no warmup things were clicking for once. I maybe play 2 rounds a month anymore, so if the stars align I can hammer a disc but most of the time I just suck. One of the guys you could tell was pretty close to "getting it" with his BH throw. Some movements looked good and others looked like he was doing it because he thought he should be. Like I said, I don't play enough to be consistent, but been trying to clean up a lot of bad habits so I can spot good/bad mechanics.

We finished up and had a short downhill dinker between our last hole and back to the parking lot so after we were done I casually asked him if he pinched the snot out of the disc right before he threw and he said no. I could tell he wasn't doing by how he threw, and I'm typically not down with critiquing anybody out of the blue but felt pretty confident that if he focused on a loose arm throughout and a firm pinch late he'd start hammering it.

Had him swing back and forth SW22 dingle arm style a few times to get the feel of the weight shift…he was swinging his arm but could 100% see tension in it by how it swung…instantly coiling around his body even after I mentioned focus on a more downward pendulum swing just to feel the transfer to the front foot. He said he felt it and immediately asked what to do with his left arm.

I just laughed and said I would take his money and tell him to do the "double move" or try to put it in his front right pocket but his left arm didn't matter until his right leg was braced.

TLDR there's a bunch of bad info out there. Lol I think DGR was known for being a bit elitist, and some of that migrated here after things dried up there. Reddit is an absolute train wreck. Some funny troll action for sure, but the amount of incorrect info flying around is just bad news. I feel bad for anybody new trying to find useful info over there.

Absolutely agree, you can spot the children.

Disagree we have lots of useful information, a few top level trolls too. The watercooler is a cesspool.

For every 100 DGCR members there's 5 bags of crap, 5 that are super annoying, another 15 that just aren't that bright. 5 that are drunk, and 5 that are top shelf. At least 50 percent are well intentioned.

On reddit there's 5 people that might be helpful another 50 that have formed a mob and 45 you'd like to punch in the face.

FB is like yelling into the void, there's maybe 10 people that listen, 50 that randomly yell an answer, 40 that don't participate.

I've been on r/discgolf as long as I've been on here and even though there are idiots here as well it's a much kinder and mature environment. I feel like r/discgolf is a place with a lot of younger people as well as people that simply like to wave their fist on a online forum, not really caring that much what the topic is. Most people are probably redditors that simply joined another sub without being genuine fans of this sport and simply wants to fill their feed with something else that they're slightly interested in.

On here I feel like a much higher percentage genuinely love this sport and sought this forum out to be able to chat about their passion and fill their day with more discgolf. This naturally feeds a healthier, happier and more welcoming climate.

I don't just live rent-free in the minds of several Redditors, they have built me lavish vacation homes for their bogeyman version of me. It's hilarious. I can't even be mad, because they're not mad at me. They're mad at a caricature of me.

LOL...

Your avatar looks like she's trying to kick me in the nuts. Why do you want to kick me in the nuts, Nova?? Must be nice moving in next to Tom Brady!

Definitely none taken.

But I've found this site to be quite useful. There have been times when I was working on something, posted about it or seached it, and got a ton of good information.

I've un-subbed from r/discgolf several times for long periods. It's definitely not the place to have actual discussions since you'll just get downvoted to oblivion for opinions that don't conform to the hivemind, with zero replies, even if you're on topic and adding to the discussion.

For example - I was getting downvoted the other day for saying Alden Harris doesn't have elite distance (but that he also was a very smart golfer and great putter), no replies or discussions, just downvotes. Probably by people who throw 225' with champ destroyers, too. I'm of the opinion that most of the people over there are super noobs or ma4 level players who are fans of vaping huge clouds and bluetooth speakers on the course. If I want to have actual discussions, DGCR is definitely where I'm going first - less traffic doesn't necessarily mean worse interaction here. Other than a handful of users, this place is pretty good most of the time.

R/discgolf is a great place if you want to post bad ace photos, ****ty scorecards, bad memes, or talk about how the halo polecat is amazing

There are a ton of great communities on reddit, but good god r/discgolf is NOT one of them.

That's not fair.

I'm not always drunk.
