I'm traveling to Chandler on Monday, and I get to play some disc golf. I've been looking at Fountain Hills, and it looks really fun, but there's so many water hazards, and I really don't want to lose a disc right after Christmas. And there's also another 4 disc rated course (Buffalo Ridge) really close that I could go to instead, but it doesn't look as fun to me. I can't decide. Should I brave the water hazards, and play at fountain hills? Or should I save my discs and play at other courses?

I was hoping to get the opinions of some people who have played the course to see if It's worth it to possibly lose a disc to play the course. I'm sorry if I wasted two minutes of your time.

When I first saw the course I thought it looked nice, then I saw a hole that had a high risk of losing a disc, and I didn't really want to go anymore. The results of the poll (If anyone votes in it) will completely influence if I go or not.

1) Skip Buffalo Ridge, its a disc chewer, make your first stop at Spinners Disc Golf Store, pick up a couple three new R-Pro Wahoos.
2) Play Shelly Sharpe first to get used to shots over water. None of the water there is deep, so you can wade out in most places and just grab your disc.
then,
3) Play Fountain Hills, its a nice challenging layout with beautiful suuroundings, everyone should play Fountain Hills at least once in thier life.
If you throw your R-Pro Wahoo into the lake, finish your round, then go get a beer at one of the joints near the 18th hole, relax, take in the ambiance that is Fountain Hills.
Your Wahoo, being that the lake isnt very big, and the Fountain makes waves on a regular basis, will slowly drift to shore, where you can easily retrieve it. :hfive:

Dont forget to wash it off. :D

Just went to Phoenix which included playing fountain hills, buffalo ridge, and vista del lago, and I felt they were all good but that fountain hills was the best of them all. Yes, you have a chance to lose a disc or two, but that is why we play the game, to challenge ourselves. I wrote a review on all three, but my advice would be to go for it. you can always play overly safe or just bring some cheap throw away discs. Either way you should give it a try imo. Good luck!

-I second captain jack.

-On another note, you can also play fountain hills somewhat conservative with the discs you have and be just fine. The lake is concrete so it is easy to get discs out of. If you have a wild arm, go to a local park and practice instead.

NEVER turn down playing a course, if you have an opportunity. You will regret it later in life! Play it, if you feel the hole is above your ability, then skip it, take a safe drop, or even try the hole. who knows, you might play better than you think. All in all play the course!

Think of it like this
One day, you will get the chance to play it again after you have played and improved. When you go back with your new skills, you can enjoy seeing how much you have improved. This is a GLORIOUS feeling! Your return trip will be an ego booster, and it will feel great! Especially when you compare scores. You might even approach the water holes on a later trip and think "I can't believe I was afraid of this hole!" It's a good feeling! Trust me! Can I get an Amen?

The only phoenix course Ive played is Buffalo Ridge, but Ive played it 5-10 times. Ive always enjoyed it and love the elevation differences and Arizona (desert) vibe. That said Ive always heard good things about Fountain Hills and Shelly Sharpe (Vista Del Camino) as well. I would personally suggest to play Buffalo Ridge if youve never gotten any desert courses before. Its good to experience the variety and not a ton of people get to play the desert

Great idea! (Except for the beer part. I'm 13 :|)Plus, I got $80 cash for Christmas, so I've got plenty of money to buy replacements for lost/new discs.

Tip: Get a hydra. It's cheap, it floats, and I use it as a driver for the narrow shots.

Fountain Hills is a risk-reward course, but you really dont have to play over water much if you really dont want to.
I'm not a monster arm guy, and I left with all my discs and no splashdowns.
Plus its a beautiful place, all grassy and fountainy.
