Back Pain

it doesn't change the fact that they are temporary relief specialists.

The good chiropractor I saw a few times for various injuries did not provide temporary relief. It was permanent, lasting relief. I wish he hadn't retired.

Try what you will, but one hour of chiropractic help is way better than multiple visits to an MD, especially if the only other options are narcotics or surgery then narcotics. Do a little research, there is likely a well-respected and reviewed chiropractor around. It certainly won't hurt.

Obviously there are some really good chiros out there, but it doesn't change the fact that they are temporary relief specialists.

I'd say "modern" medicine is just as guilty as many chiros are with this. A lot of medicine is geared towards putting you on a pill the rest of your life that is only dealing with masking the symptoms and not the root cause.

There are a lot of different treatments that chiropractors may offer. My girlfriend has been going to a new chiro who after 4 treatments referred her to a new chiro because they were only temporary relief and refused to keep treating her. Any good chiropractor will want to take x-rays or at least look at old ones before adjusting you.

She had gone to normal doctors and specialists for the kind of pain she had and they only offered pills and surgery or dismissed her as just crazy. She went to a chiropractor who had her tested for food allergies. It turned out she was incredibly intolerant to gluten and somewhat to dairy. Eliminating those from her diet helped her with so many problems but there are still a few more she is battling with.

As for your original back problem I'd try simple physical therapy or even swimming before doing anything more serious.

I was suffering from the same problem, In morning my back suffers same pain. I think the idea of visiting chiropractor is not good idea, after visiting them your pain will be worsened. If you ask me, I will suggest taking some good sound sleep and change your mattress, buy a recliner for you. Some changes require will be Side sleeping is best. Firstly visit a doctor and take some medication as prescribed by the doctor. You have to change your sleep pattern and for some time, stop the heavy duty works. Rest doesn't take tension all things will be alright

While I appreciate Lewis's input and common sense cures, I might suggest a visit to your doc before investing in Serta and Lazyboy.

While rest and some motrin can help with soreness not related to injury, the risk/reward ratio for back problems doesn't fall in favor of dismissal. If your back is injured the risk of lifelong pain and problems is real. Don't except pain meds as an answer to your issues. Insist your doctor follow a diagnostic pathway that is supported by best practice.

Rest your painful back, decrease the swelling with ice and NSAID's. Stretching and strengthening your core should be the next step if the pain is gone. If pain persists, see your doctor.

I've battled back pain for many years. Switching to foam mattresses did help me quite a bit, but there are a lot of other triggers. Certain shoes will always give me back pain. Usually the ones with a ton of cushioning, although it can be hard to pin down the exact cause. I usually have to throw out or sell 50% of the shoes I buy because they hurt my back and it'll never stop until i stop wearing them.

And when it comes to disc golf, I just have to make sure I warm up, and focus on follow through. Warming up is a big deal for back pain.

NAH, I am going to stick with my chiropractor.

I'm super curious what the bot will recommend for back pain. How can they create an account specifically to bring back a 5 year old thread on back pain, set up the product with ANOTHER new account, and then not come through?? DON'T LEAVE ME HANGING

Listen, I am searching for a forum where I can share my pain and my experience with my chiropractor and I know this thread is old but it is related to my problem. If I comment on an old thread it doesn't mean I am a bot I am just helping that person and you can see here people are commenting on my reply. So please be polite. Don't make fun of anyone.

There are plenty of things you can do for curing your back.
1. Do some regular exercises.
2. Some sort of stretching.
3. Join the yoga classes.
4. Avoid excessive sitting.
If problem persists visit a doctor, Ping me if you want any other help.

I agree with you. I know if we don't pay attention to back pain, then yes, it will become a lifelong disease. I am just saying if your pain persists after some stretching, or after changing your sleep pattern or after buying recliners. After 15 days your pain doesn't stop, then you must visit your doctor. If there work is to sit all the time on a chair in front of a computer and he is not doing any exercises then back pain is common. These small changes like I said above will definitely help them in relieving their pain

2. Meds only mask the pain/condition they do not fix it, I recommend staying away if not needed.

I get what you are saying, but it depends on the meds. A pain reliever only is doing what you say, but there is something to be said for quality of life. If it is an anti-inflammatory then I disagree with you. Inflammation is both necessary and in excess it prohibits recovery. Zero inflammation is bad and too much is bad. So anti-inflammatory meds can be beneficial to healing and recovery as I understand it.

I have had lingering thoracic pain for many years and the only thing I have found which alleviates it is Yoga. Even if I do the stretches in isolation as part of post workout cool down i dont get the same relief. Something about the guided progression of stretches seems to be the magic for me. Having said that I dont do it nearly as often as I would like to and am working on overall flexibility and core strength at the moment.

I think I am a little late, but DON'T LISTEN TO RANDOM PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET AND GO TO A FREAKIN DOCTOR. Back when I was in college I was getting pretty good at this game and averaged 990+ golf for span of 5 or 6 tournaments and was feeling pretty confident. My back started to hurt and I just ignored it. I'd take a day off here or there or I'd say I'm just going to throw forehand today because that doesn't hurt. Well me continuing to try to play ended up breaking my form and led to me having to take a longer time off. I ended up having a stress fracture in a vertebrae and by the time I did anything about it I set myself back for disc golf for a long time. Once my back was healed and I was able to play again, I wasn't in college anymore and I didn't have the free time I did to try to fix my form as quickly as I wanted. I became an arm only guy because I was too scared to use my entire body and that is how I was throwing at the end with the back pain to make it not hurt when I did play. I grew to really dislike disc golf because I knew what I was capable of and I couldn't get myself to throw correctly because of fear of it hurting when I threw. It literally took me years to get back to the point of just not being afraid to put my entire body into a throw and to not just strong arm the disc. Going from throwing 400'+ and competing locally in open to throwing 250 and not playing any tournaments is not fun. If you think something might be wrong, don't be afraid to stop playing for a little bit and get it checked out because it might save you time in the long run.

This is somewhat related. I visited a chiropractor for neck and shoulder pain and one of the first things he told me is that my left left is slightly shorter than my right; a common issue. He sold me a small heel lift which I wear in my left shoe. It didn't do much for my back pain but it alleviated 90% of my left knee pain. A great result for an $8 piece of rubber. I went to him for a 3 month program and it did help some of my back and neck pain but not enough that I wanted to keep paying. I am trying strengthening and stretching regimen now and the results have been pretty good. The heel lift though I am never without. It has been amazing!

Was the punchline worth it?

A good exercise for back pain is to lay on the floor on your back and put your legs on a chair with your legs at a 90 deg bend. Make sure your butt is right up to the chair and keep your shoulder blades on the floor. Do this for about 15 min at a time. Good luck, there is nothing that shuts a person down worst then a bad back.:(
