One of the more creative things I've seen was what we did locally here this year.

Went to the shortest easiest hole on the course and threw off. You got exactly as many throws as weeks you attended.

All aces split.

No aces it got donated to the course.

I too thought that was a cool idea, a very fun atmosphere as well.

We roll over our ace pools till the next year and we always pay out half when an ace is hit. The other half goes back into course maintenance.

I voted other since we do a combo of the first choice, roll it over, and the third, course maintenance.

Have a CTP for half and carry the other half over to the next season. That way people who can't make the last league night still have a chance at some of that money later on.

I do this with unhit ace pot money from our doubles league. I save a chunk so that there's something in the pot on the 1st night of league next year. And give away the rest at our season ending BBQ/party. I personally like to do blind man's CTP I'll set up a basket on like a 125-150 ft downhill shot and put a blindfold on the players and let them take a shot at the basket. I usually pay out the top 2 or 3 closest 60% 40% or 50% 30% 20% of what money is left.

I hate having it empty out at the end of the year with a CTP. Ours was up to $650 with 1 week to go and the finale, with two pots capped at $300, and a third at $50. Luckily someone hit one in the last week, so there was only $350 in the pot. No one hit in the finale and we had a throwoff with the 2 closest shots getting paid. Now the ace pot sits at $0 next year which stinks if you hit an ace early :(

Roll it over..

Once ace pools hit near $100.. start charging more for the pool entry.. $5 instead of 1-2.

Once it hits a predetermined cap (300? 500?) the rest goes into a slosh fund that gets used for course improvement, dinner, or maybe a league champion next year that wins a real discatcher/mach/titan.

I would personally have 2 250's rather than 1 500.. $250 is a good chunk that will get someone a grip bag or a cart.. going up to 500-1000-5000 will draw more "one timers" that will come pay in to win it.

Personally I think ace pool should never be more than $5 entry.. it gets too much like casino if your entry jumps to 10-20.. while the pool will skyrocket.. the players wallets will hurt, and feel pressured to join it due to the size of the winnings.

I played in this league ^Having the CTP at the end did kind of stink. I played pretty terrible both rounds of the league final, by the time the throw off had started I just wanted to go home.

Although I do like the idea that was mentioned where you get one throw for each week you put money into the ace pot. That seems to alleviate some of the problems of having someone who just shows up for the last night and wins a $300 CTP after only paying $1 in.

I chose course improvements, but the logic behind a roll over to the next season is solid as well, for that guy who hits on week 1.

I think you should use the over flow from the extra caps into the course improvements, and keep the original 300 for the next ace hit.

I voted for Carry Over to next year. That's what we do currently in the league that I run and the other leagues in town.

For the league that I run, once the pot hits $100, $50 stays in when it gets hit. We used to do 50% payout if the pot was over $100, but that seemed like overkill.

One year the pot was big enough that we did a bunch of CTP's during the end of the year tourny. We had a $10 CTP on every hole every round. That went over well with most people (unless they didn't get any CTPs).

I have been running tags at a local course and our ace pot has yet to have been hit. It is well over $100 and if someone doesn't hit it on the last night I am wondering what to do. Please respond on what you have seen work or what you think doesn't work.

Thanks!

We run a year long CTP pool just for this situation. If there is ace money left in the pool at the end of the season, it is split three ways amongst the three players with the most CTPs. The Year End Event has enough CTPs available where anyone who has qualified for prizes (based upon attendance) could mathematically still win this if he or she would sweep all the CTPs.

make a 33 foot circle on every hole.

Start everyone out on the first tee. Get it inside the circle, and you move on. go to next tee. repeat until there is a winner.

roll it over!! some people in the club might not be able to make it to when you have the CTP

note to self: work out those details before *starting* the ace pool next season... i would not want to be in your position trying to make everyone happy so near the end.

I think I decided to split it. Half for a CTP on the last night, giving everyone a weeks notice that I am doing so. And carrying the other half over to next year so it starts out big.

Thanks for the help!

Below is what I've done in the seasonal league that I run.

At the Series Finale Invitational if there is money left in the Ace pot, i.e. no one hits an Ace in the Finale Invitational then:

  • 1/3 of the total Ace pot will carry over to the next season.

  • 1/3 of the total Ace pot will be allocated to the "15 Foot Challenge".

  • 1/3 of the total Ace pot will be allocated to a "Finale CTP Throw-off".
"15 Foot Challenge" Details
During the Finale Invitational round any player who lands their tee shot within 15' of the basket (as measured from the pole) on any hole gets a "leg in the pot".
After the round all the players with a leg in the pot will split the money evenly between them.
You may have a maximum of one leg in the pot, no multiple shares no matter how many tee shots you land within 15'.
Only the initial tee shot on a hole counts, not re-tees for OB, Unplayable Lie, etc..
You must be qualified to play in the Finale Invitational to be eligible for the 15 Foot Challenge.
If no one gets a leg in the pot the money will roll over to next year's Ace pot.

"Finale CTP Throw-off" Details
CTP distance will be between 100'-150'.
For every four regular season events played you will get one throw at the CTP. (Rounded down, e.g. seven events played gets you one throw.)
No reusing thrown discs, if you have five throws you must throw five different discs.
First and second closest discs (as measured from the pole) will split the pot 70/30%. This could end up being the same player.
An "Ace" in the basket is automatically first place (or tied for first) regardless of technical distance from the pole.
Any player with at least four regular season events played may participate in the Finale CTP Throw-off.
