Here are the 85 guys rated 1000+ as-of July 2003, along with their yearly historical ratings back to Aug-98.

There are several that had been 1000+ prior to July 2003 but are not on this list -- perhaps most notably Doss, who was 1002 in Jul-02 but had dropped to 995 for Jul-03.

awesome how Climo, Schultz, Rico top 3 10 years ago, all just competed in USDGC and 2 of them tied for 2nd 10 years later. Pretty badass if you ask me.

Ron Convers. Still playing mostly open in all b-tiers today, and still winning a lot of tournaments ... in his 50's. Plays masters in a-tiers. Great friend, adviser, ambasssador, and golfer.

So many names that dont appear anywhere on the masters winners lists nowadays. I only started 4 years ago and I never even heared like half of these names.

Local hero George Smith is still getting it done too. He did have his first sub 1000 rating since the era that this list is from, but it only lasted one ratings update.

George is a super nice guy and great player. We're lucky to get to play with him regularly. He'll be trying to become a 5-time Jefferson City Open champion next weekend. $1000 added cash will hopefully draw in some more talent to give him run for the $$

31 of the 85 are still 1000+. 17 of those have a higher rating now than they did 10 years ago.

Ron plays where the money is on any particular day because he knows he can take it. One of the nicest dudes you'll ever meet.

There is reason now you see 1100 rated rounds and you didn't in the past. First off, there was a boost to ratings a few years ago.

Secondly, technology makes courses easier.

Third, more players overall means more athletes and otherwise appropriately skilled/coordinated people are playing the game and excelling. (a.k.a. it's not just hippies and fat guys with beer bellies anymore )

I think I know what he's referring to. A while back (I want to say 2005ish), some adjustments were made to the ratings formula that resulted in most players' ratings being "boosted" by a few points. I'm sure Chuck will chime in and explain at some point, but suffice to say, MTL isn't talking out of his rear end on this one.
