Location: Perkerson Park, near downtown Atlanta, GA
About the course
Perkerson has won a $46,500 grant that will be used to complete the course installation using professional contractors. The grant will pay for 2 sets of concrete pads, vandal-proof signage, trees, etc. In order to qualify for the grant, we need to fundraise about $8,000. Installation of concrete pads will begin this winter, hopefully by year end. As part of the fundraising, we're holding a 4-part series this winter, the last Sunday each month in Nov, Dec, Jan and February.
The course currently is a challenging par 59. The final layout will be par 60 with two sets of concrete teepads (advanced and rec levels).
If you haven't played it in a while, it looks MUCH better than it did a few months ago.
About the tourney series
This will be a cumulative points series with overall point winner in each division (possibly top 3 spots) receiving special trash-art-trophies made by a local artist using things found in the park. Divisions and entry fees are the same for each event. Points will be determined by the number of players beaten in a division (so 1st place with 20 people would get 20 points; 10 place would get 10.). Trophies will be paid out at the conclusion of the February event when points are totaled for the 4 events. No attendance caps except on the final event, which will be the traditional Icebowl PDGA format. Events 1-3 are non-sanctioned.
Event formats:
Sunday November 25, 2012: Team Challenge
Round 1 = Singles
Round 2 = Random Draw Doubles within division
Each round counts 50% of total score
Sunday December 30, 2012: Bring your own Partner Doubles
2 rounds of bring your own partner, best shot doubles
Sunday January 27, 2013: Skins
2 rounds of singles. Best 4 scores from round 1 are grouped in round 2 for 18 holes of skins. Playoffs as needed to get it to 4 people. 100% of payout will be in the skins.
Sunday February 24, 2012: PDGA Icebowl
2 rounds, PDGA singles. Charity format with 50% to course fund and 50% to Sullivan Center.
