I collect statistics about the USDGC, so I am in search of some additional information about the early years.

At the moment, I'm looking for info about the first year, 1999. Here's what I'm searching for:

  • Course par
  • Scorecard
  • Course map
  • Explanation of '99 OB rules
  • The holy grail would be player hole by hole scores. (I already have the round totals.)
If you can supply any of those I will be grateful. If you have any files that you would like to share please PM me and I will give you my email address.

Have you emailed Poole/Duvall?
Yes. We have been in touch for quite a few years. They are also checking their archives.

Among many other stats, I am compiling a comprehensive list, by year and player, of all aces and other eagles.

What kind of timeline/plan do you have for the release of these Stats? I think it'd be fascinating to see the results. It'd be interesting to know which holes have the greatest variance (largest score spread) and where the tournament has most often been lost. I'm sure 888 and 17's island are two of the major ones, but there may be other holes that don't get as much attention but play an equally large role in deciding the fate of competitors. Good luck with everything, as a stat nerd I am honestly jealous right now!

Look forward to seeing your work. Stats play such a huge roll in sports, it will be nice to have some more DG stats to look at other than rating.

roclover,

At the moment I mainly track these stats for the USDGC leadership. I don't have any plans for wider publication, but I will probably share some here on DGCR. But I do have some other thoughts on how to use these stats to benefit the USDGC.

Innova already does extensive tracking of scoring spreads and many hole score stats. I don't duplicate what they have already done, so I don't track this myself. I don't know of any place online where these numbers are available. I guess you could email Harold Duvall or Jonathan Poole to ask for the scoring stats to be published.

Dana,

You are on the list for your 2010 ace of hole 1.

I am also compiling a list of rounds with "all hole scores under 5" (may have bogeys on par 3 holes) and another list of "bogey free rounds" (may have 5s on par 5s). Rather time consuming to put together.

I am curious how many 1000+ rated players have taken a 4 or higher on the first hole?

A couple years worth of examples below. The cross-referencing to find who was 1000+ at the time is left as an exercise for the reader -- although some prime candidates would be people like McCray, Gangloff, etc.

That was probably the first time I ever got "announced". It has the power to do that to a person.
