So I think we all know by now that Gateway stamps up a lot of very copyrighted things. So the question is, what won't gateway stamp. Where do they draw the line.

now they just need to do a bracelet with block lettering

WWGS

i, for one, love the playful and awesome stamps it's lead to. i don't know how they do it or if they are within rights. but yeah. i'll still buy the stuff.

I like their Devil may care business model.

Truth be told, I have gotten pretty uncomfortable with the appropriation of intellectual property in DG stamps.
I initially just didn't realize how widespread it was and what the scale might be.
I don't recall it ever being an issue back in the day, so I'm embarrassed to say I guess I just didn't think about it.

But, there is a lot of great original artwork being created out there for discs, and I really love buying that stuff.
So I started questioning if it was ethical to buy a disc that had, essentially, stolen art stamped on it in order for the seller to make a buck over supporting an artist that created something new and original.
I've gotten rid of all my discs that have any appropriated art as a result.
I'd rather fund artists that support the sport and/or companies that pay artists to make cool stamps than guys flipping discs with other folks stolen work.

Bet they would draw the line at a Innova stamp. They can get away with the other stamps being a under the radar disc golf company. Another company Innova being the most obvious in disc golf being stamped would not fly. That is my answer. I on the other hand love Gateway and their crazy stamps.

this is the main reason i hate gateway.

innova isn't much better with the GCC stamps, but slightly better than all the garbage gateway has stamped

ditto
it's easy to get away with it now since DG is so fringe and there's not a lot of money in the industry. that could change one day, maybe.

but i think that IP is a bunch of nonsense anyway so i'm happy to see them stamping whatever looks cool or whatever sells.

IP isn't nonsense to anyone who's ever created something worthwhile...

it's nonsense to anyone who has thought clearly about it long enough

*edit* and that's coming from a professional musician

I'm not 100% positive about this one, but I think that when Gateway comes out with a new product, they have contests for local artists to create the designs. Not exactly sure what the winner gets.

Yeah, I dig their original stuff, especially the Wizards, but the issue is that they stamp just about anything you want on a disc, including copywritten works of art.

No actual professional musician would ever say that.

my bad, these paychecks must be a figment of my imagination

I'm guessing as far as content goes, that they wouldn't do anything pornographic/sex related.

Like I said, worthwhile. Unless you hate getting paid for your work, then your a true artist I guess.

I'm thinking they won't stamp anything from Marvel, DD would absolutely get Marvel/Disney involved.
