Flyby Like An Eagle 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 24, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

(1.814 Rating) A short park style nine with one interesting hole.
- HOLE 7 - Eagle creek has mostly short holes along with lightly wooded to open fairways. The exception is hole (7), which is a plus 500-foot dogleg right, running along Scott Creek the whole way. A smart well executed play will leave a look at a birdie, while a mistake could ruin the round. It was by far my favorite hole on the course and it is sole reason why I scored this course a half notch above the hoards of courses like this one that I've given a 1.5 rating to.
- BEGINNER FRIENDLY - With the exception of the water hazard on (7) and the somewhat in play water on (4) and (6), the course has an easy going forgiving feel to it. Plenty of birdie potential for players rated over an 800. Higher skilled players will have lots of ace potential. Overgrowth is confined to behind hole (2) and the disc loss potential will be limited to throwing into the creek when the water level is up. Not a true beginner's course, but close.
- TEES - Concrete tees throughout measuring roughly 5 feet by 10 feet. There is also a second concrete pad on five holes.
- CHAINS - DISCatchers. Yea!
- NAVIGATION - Passable. No course map on site and the tee signs are just a simple numbered post. Basket (3) is missing so there's a decent gap between (2) and (4) that requires a walk south around the newer community garden. What makes the course somewhat easy to traverse is the general open nature of the course. The map link on DGCR is accurate as of this review and the course is very cart friendly
- QUICK PLAY - I had this one conquered solo at the break of dawn in 25 minutes. Even a group of four should be done in under an hour.
- MAINTENANCE - The grounds were well maintained and clean on my visit.

Cons:

Seven simplistic shots and a missing basket.
- MISSING HOLE - It appears the newer community garden displaced hole (3). Per Benny's review and suggestion, I played an alternate hole (2) from up top the mini ridge north-east of the basket. It was my second favorite tee shot of the day.
- UNIQUENESS - Other than hole (7) and the noted alternate hole above, the remaining 7 tee shots are rather bland. Holes (1) and (2) don't even have a tree in play and the others only have a few. I threw a putter or mid straight at the basket several times. The course is very flat too.
- LACK OF CHALLENGE - Even with the back tees on five holes, the challenges presented here are Rec level at best. As noted above, very little tree cover to force shaped shots. Players that can chuck 300 feet will have no problem with the distances. Advanced players could probable achieve all birds if they played it 8 or 9 times.
- RAW BEAUTY - Nothing here wowed me. Just too open for my preference. The creek is clearly the best natural element, but its grace is canceled out by the deteriorating buildings along (8) and (9).

Other Thoughts:

Eagle Creek felt like a tweener 1.75 course to me. I really enjoyed hole (7), but the rest were forgettable run-of-the-mill shots. The course will work great for casual locals and for those curious within 25 miles. Outside that range, you'd have to be a course bagger to show up here.

This eagle soars but craps like a canary 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 14, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

-This is a traditional nine holer in a downtown area next to a highway. It's good for practice and gives a few neat accurate shots and allows a little bit of distance.

-Dual sets of pads, so can be played as 16. Hole 3 was removed but there is a mound past hole 2's basket. Walk up the mound, throw down it to 2's basket and you got yourself a potentially fun alternate hole.

-I really like #7. From the short tee, you have a 440ish foot anhyzer throw around a tree line with the creek in play the whole way down. The long pad is a fun par 4 that is about 515' long. Same shot, but fun to rip a few drivers on.

-You can park wherever you want to really, because there are no parking spots. So I parked right by the edge. A couple of locals parked in the grass. There is a police station close by, and a cop drove past our cars and didn't tell us to move or anything.

-The garden looks pretty nice. Even though it replaced hole 3, it's probably a big improvement. Can't go wrong with garden food!

Cons:

-Aside from hole 7, none of the holes are legitimately fun. Hole 8's long pad is kinda fun because it allows a massive hyzer.

-Some of the long pads are pointless. Hole 2's long pad is like 40' behind the short pad. My drives landed in the exactly same spot when I played both pads. The others don't give a different look to the hole except for maybe hole 8.

-Navigation is confusing on hole 7. The first basket you'll see is #8. I thought this was originally a putter shot. I was pleased when I saw where the basket really was.

Other Thoughts:

-I'd recommend this course to a church group or for secondary school students because it's not bad per se. It's good for starters as well as gives them what to expect on a harder course (#7). But for other players, go the extra distance to North Georgia Technical College. Oh, and Franklin may possibly have a new course soon, so if that happens, just go there. Honestly, if I lived up here, I'd probably make it a habit to play Rose Lane or North Georgia. And I'd make it a habit to go to North Georgia Canopy Tours at least once a month.

-Afterwards, hang out in downtown Georgia. They probably have good food.

Great for a begninner 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 8, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-easiest course i have ever played
-concrete tee pads
-innova discatchers
-perfect place to just throw
-perfect place to teach a beginner how to throw and play disc golf
-great for a quick round

Cons:

-in my opinion not a destination course for a serious player
-all holes are open
-no course map or tee signs

Other Thoughts:

I enjoyed this course when I played it.I shot 3 under par even though my go to driver at the time was still a starter pack DX Leopard. If I was to play this course today, I would expect myself to shoot 6 or 7 under par. I did play 2 rounds in 45 minutes, so like I said in the Pros, it is a great course if you're passing through Clayton and want to throw

Nice practice course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 27, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Nice tee boxes
-Well maintained
-Great place for newer/younger players (fairly open and short)

Cons:

-Hole #3 has been removed to make way for a garden
-Needs a course map

Other Thoughts:

I would REALLY like to give this course a higher rating, but I can't considering that one basket has been removed. I played this course 7 times in one weekend during a vacation. Great place to take the family, or newer players. The course is mostly wide open but there are at least some small amount of obstacles on all but one hole (#2). I never saw any other players during my time playing. I will be returning to this course when I am in the area, because it is a great place to practice lots of shots and taking your time.

Time Killer 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 11, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- New baskets that are very forgiving.

- NO traffic. Went into Clayton and played several times while visiting a friend in Mountain City. Each time I was the only person on the course.

- Easy beginner course. Taught my little girls (ages 11 and 13) the game here. Lots of space for them to figure out the physics of a disc golf Frisbee are different from a regular one with no chance of losing the disc. Short holes gave them a good target to shoot at.

- Plenty of parking. You might be the only car in the lot.

- Very close to downtown Clayton. But then, everything is close to downtown Clayton.

- Respectable use of space.

- Excellent course for an ace race.

Cons:

- Navigation. A map of the park would definitely be useful. On the tee at 7 I shot at 8's basket because I didn't know 7 was the par 4 that wrapped around to the right by the creek. Nothing posted indicated this.

- Tees. There are a few tee boxes that have nothing but a board to tell you that's where you're supposed to throw. Some don't even have that. What's more, some holes don't even HAVE tees, just a white line or board that gives you the impression that's where you're supposed to start from.

- Cleanliness. Understand this is a new course and things are being improved, but there seems to be a random outcropping of junk just scattered everywhere. Actually have to throw around stuff on 2 and 4.

- Very short, even for a nine hole course.

- Almost too easy. Not much of a challenge to this course unless you're teaching your kids or don't know how to throw a disc.

- Shady looking location. Though it's right next to the cop shop, the abandoned school (?) has tons of graffiti in it and looks like a good spot for heroin dealers and the undead.

- No topless Hooters girls frolicking along the #8 fairway.

Other Thoughts:

For an Eagle Scout project, the young fellas who put this together and made it happen did a great job. It's a nice getaway and should only take you 20 minutes or so to play the course, but it's almost not even a challenge. However, since it's the only course in Clayton I suppose it'll do. Bottom line: This course is nice and has a ton of potential, so if you're jonesing for a game and keep your expectations low, you won't be too disappointed by Eagle Creek. Worth playing, but it most likely won't end up in your favorites.

Great Course 4 Beginners 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 19, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Lay out works well for tight space
-Well maintained
-Little chance of losing a disc
-On hole 7 there is nice wall to stop discs from going into river, but there is a long fishing net for in case it does.

Cons:

-Tight space
-A couple holes are too easy
-It takes a minute to figure out the lay out of the coure

Other Thoughts:

Great course for beginners, my wife got par on three hole and she is new to the sport.
Looks like it is being fixed up, with tees and trees being added.
Most holes have two tees but the long tee is not always clear.

Good Beginner Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 8, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

If you're new to the game or have kids you're teaching the game to, Eagle Creek is a good course to learn the game on or to teach the game.

The course offers some pretty holes with cement tees. It has two cement tees per hole (at least that's what is being worked on at the time of this review). It has a few moderate challenges for newer players.

A few of the holes have recently planted trees that will make those hole much more difficult in years to come. Holes 4, 6 and 7 all have several young trees that don't offer much of an obstacle right now but will provide decent obstacles in 5 or so years from now.

Cons:

Way too easy for an experienced player. The course does the best it can with what's provided. Needs more trees and elevation.

At the time of this review there is a pile of broken concrete and other debris on the course along with a large burn pile. These two eye sores are suppose to be cleaned up soon.

Other Thoughts:

I think once the course is cleaned up from the eye sores and the additional baskets are added to make the course 12 holes, it might increase rating by a half a point. The course just lack enough room and obstacles to offer enough challenge. They've done well for the property that was given for the course.
