Essentially Practice Baskets

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 11, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Testing that awkward putt/throw range with no tees.

For the length of this course, the basic equipment is just fine. DISCatchers are doing well, and the natural tees are marked by signs with number, distance, and par. There's no need for maps as the holes are short, and benches are superfluous since you can easily play in 15 minutes.

The property gets good upkeep. Landscapers were doing another part of the school grounds when I went through the course. The signs and baskets are in nice shape.

As for the actual disc golf portion, holes are around 100' or slightly more and have zero obstacles, except for one tree on (5). Three or four holes have meaningful (as in 5-10') elevation. For me, it's that range just between the long jump putt and a half-thrown approach shot. If grabbing <150' aces is a goal for you, this is a prime candidate. I personally had a cubby ace as I jump putted most of the holes twice for fun.

Lastly, the course would set up decently for safari. You could designate certain areas OB, and the mild elevation and couple of trees would provide some obstacles. So, if you want to throw towards nice DISCatchers, you could use this place evenings or weekends.

Cons:

There aren't major issues. The concept of an easy, short, open school course was well executed. It has everything it needs. On the other hand, that's not setting the bar very high. I basically jogged the grounds, threw some quick jump putts, and patted myself on the back for bringing down my UDisc average round score with a -9. It's just not that exciting.

A few concrete cons, though. First, the basketball court and playground could well attract kids and pose a safety hazard to playing the safari layout. Second, there is limited availability due to school hours. Third, a couple parts of the course got a bit marshy. Fourth, there is one obstacle, which is even less than most elementary school courses.

Other Thoughts:

This one is for kids, neighborhood safari players, and baggers. I don't have any real summary besides what I've stated.

~Similar Courses: The well-done version of Catawba Trail ES (Elgin, SC); the first few holes of Dupree Park (Woodstock, GA); basically any practice area listed on this site.

Short course in the neighborhood. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 1, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Corley is a short, short, short, pitch-n-putt school course. If you live in the neighborhood, take advantage of a solid practice layout.
- Corley is easy in terms of being a regular course. The average hole length is 108 feet, with the longest hole being 164 feet, and three being 82 feet or less. I brought 2 discs and only needed the second when I want to flick a forehand throw.
- For an elementary school course, this should be appealing to the kids. You want the kids to not feel overwhelmed nor feeling like something is too easy. This should strike a happy medium for the 6-8-year-old range.
- There's just enough variety in each hole that I didn't feel like I played the same hole 9 times in a row. You've got to throw around the trees (#2); throw under the branches - #5; downhill putt #6; and uphill shots - #7 & 8. Throw in enough open spaces and spaced-out baskets that one can easily be practicing all sorts of approach/mid-range shots throughout this area.
- Quick round(s). I played through twice (18 holes) in about 15 - 20 minutes. Put it this way - I was visiting relatives who lived less than a mile away. I was gone less than 30 minutes driving here, playing, driving back, and most people didn't even realize I had left the family gathering.

Cons:

You can't rip a course aimed at 6-8-year-olds for being too easy for an adult. This course achieved its intended goal of being kid-friendly. That said, the biggest con isn't even with the layout itself:
- The drive to the course was confusing. You get to the front of the school on one street. To get to back lot - where the course is - you've got to turn onto two more roads. I've updated the directions to reflect this. So, either park in the first lot and walk across the school property or drive another ½ mile to make the long loop around to the back lot.
- Let's see. What else? The walk from #9's basket to the parking lot is (proportionately) long. You pretty much walk the length of 3 holes (back to the first tee). Make a bonus 10th hole.
- FWIW, no trash cans, benches, restrooms or water fountains available. Gas stations, fast food joints are 5 minutes away, so you'll be fine.
- Not Stoney Hill. Make sure you're going to the correct Sauls course when wanting a challenge.

Other Thoughts:

Corley is pleasant for what it is: 9 baskets in a small field.
- I'd be using this course for practice a lot if I lived in the neighborhood. It's fun to think you could essentially have your own private 9-hole practice layout in your backyard.
- For a school course, if there isn't already, it'd be great to see a loaner disc program for students and/or neighborhood kids. Make this course even more a part of the neighborhood by making it even more accessible for residents.
- If this course weren't a 4-minute ride from where I was, and if I weren't wanted to pad my stats, I wouldn't have stopped by. If you don't live in the neighborhood, you're only stopping by to add it to your played column.

Great for Kids! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 1, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Great baskets
-Easy to navigate
-Signage is adequate (only one sign missing).
-Quick play!
-Ace runs!

Cons:

-Very short
-Very open
-Lack of challenge for any experienced players.
-Grass was knee high
-Course is only open when school is not in session.

Other Thoughts:

This course was obviously intended to introduce young kids to the game and it does just that. This would be a great course to bring the whole family out and enjoy being outside. For adults who have any experience playing Disc Golf this course provides little to no challenge, but ace runs abound!
