Need a big arm on the back 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 24, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Rubber Tee Pads
-Excellent Signage
-Mixture of tight fairways / open holes, flat / elevation, long / short
-Good flow, good map
-Big arms will love 9-17
-Some trees in play

Cons:

-Holes 13-17 get repetitive
-Hole 12 is a long carry over water (although dried up July 2020)
-No benches / trashcans
-No 9 hole loop
-Wasp nest in the scorecard holder on #1 tee

Other Thoughts:

Southwestern College DGC is located around the campus of South Western Iowa Community College (or SWICC) in Creston, IA. #1 tee is located east (behind) the "Tech Center II" building, but easy to find. Rubber tee mats and excellent signage at all holes. 1-3 play around a farming field. 4 - 8 play around tennis courts and ball fields. 9 begins a large open area, playing down, up 10, down 11 to the edge of a pond (although dried up in 2020), 12 over the pond, 13 over a corner of the pond, 14-17 play back and forth in a large open grassy area. 18 plays along a couple of buildings getting you back to the parking lot. Big arms will love #2, #3, #5, #9-17. All of these are fairly wide open with little obstacles. The nice tee pads, good signage, overall layout adds to the rating for me. What keep it down is the repetition in the late holes, the down / up / down / valley of 9-12, and lack of benches / trashcans. I enjoyed McKinley Park more here in Creston. If you have a big arm that you are looking to let loose, this one is for you, but I probably won't play this one again.

SWCC Review 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 2, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course is easy to navigate once you find hole one, and sports some really nice fairway shots and elevation changes on the back 9 holes. Tee signage does a good job of pointing out where basket location should be.

Cons:

There are several issues with this course that made it not enjoyable to play. Hole 1 is hard to find, it is by a shed, behind a huge building. Holes 1,2, and 3. are next to a bean field and a street. Hole 2 is a tight fairway, and if your disc is not thrown straight, it will end up in the bean field or in the street. Hole three requires you to throw 300 plus feet over the bean field directly. The bean field is being grown by the studens at the college. Felt bad as we had to go into the field to find my friends discs on both 2 and 3. Holes 5,6, and 7 are unplayable if a baseball game or practice is going on as the holes are right behind the fields and in between. No tee pads, trash cans, benches, or water fountains.

Other Thoughts:

This course needs to be reconfigured into either just a 9 hole course or a 12 hole course. They could also move baskets around and down size of there longer holes so that they could fit a eighteen course in better.

Professional Caliber Course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 27, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a beautiful course located on a college campus with beautiful breathtaking landscape and well defined fairways. The course offers a great variety of different shots that will be used to score well. There is a great mixture of some long open downhill and uphill bomber shots throughout most of the course. The course mostly plays wide open with a very few trees to really let your disc rip. The signs are really helpful, showing you all the hole information and the baskets are brand new Discraft Chainstars. The course is fairly easy to navigate from on hole to the next. The course is beautiful and well maintained with well defined fairways. The course seems to never get crowded, so you will probably have the whole course to yourself most of time when you play here.

Cons:

The course does not have concrete tee pads as of now, just natural grass tees, which is not really a bad thing. I really didn't see any trashcans or benches available on the course at the time when I played here but that could change in the future being it is a fairly new course. The course did not seem to be a beginner friendly course, but is a good challenge for the more advanced player.

Other Thoughts:

Im seriously loving college courses. The whole course is pristene with awesome scenic views. This is a must play course if you are in the area as you will not be dissapointed.
