Tiffin Timbers is a reasonable course located on the south end of Tiffin, IA. The first thing you will notice, right at the small parking lot, is an oversize version of the baskets on the course. Homemade baskets in the style of the Marskman baskets with a smaller top ring for a much more narrow set of chains to hit. The chain is heavy, so if you DO hit, it catches well. They are a little different, but overall were OK, didn't really affect my play here. The course winds through a flood plain of the neighboring creek, so it is very flat. A minor amount of elevation on #7 is all you get. I do agree that some holes favor a right fade, especially #1, #5, #6 and #7. #2 and #3 are wide open (but watch out for the tall grass along the right, especially in late summer, lost a good Thrasher in there). #8 and #9 are playing back towards the parking lot and along a walking path, very much in play. They also play along the creek, but it doesn't really come into play unless you are WAY left or long as it does show up behind both baskets. Overall, an OK place to grab a quick 9, right off the interstate, just west of Iowa City. Could even be used as a tune-up to The Farm or Peninsula. Check out the unique baskets but stay on the fairway. I might play this one again, if in the area.

Tiffin hosts a tricky course that isn't going to play nice with your scorecard.  Sharp doglegs, looming OB, and those cheeky baskets.

The par 4s are the best holes on the course.  6, 7, and 9 are all rated a par 4 and it's fair.  Without the baskets being as they are the only par 4 would be hole 6 with its fairway that thins between four tricky trees with 175' still to go to the pin.  Best hole on the course.  9 is a straightaway that kinks left after about 400' with OB all the way down on the right.  Oh and there's a creek just 25ft behind the basket. The par 4s add an immense amount of quality to stand out from a standard city park 9er.

Tee signs with a fairly detailed and accurate hole map are at every tee.

Mowing is decent, tall grass is left pretty tall but not so tall that your disc is impossible to find.

Conveniently right off the highway and has plenty of parking for a small 9-hole.

There are no tee pads to be found, and most of the course besides the first three holes play close to a walking trail.

The doglegs on holes 1 and 5 are too sharp to be able to birdie consistently, especially for a rhbh player.  4 of the 5 dogleg holes are left to right.  A little more balance would have been nice.

Holes 2-4 have no obstacles in the way and just feel like filler to get you to the good part of the course, 5-9.

Flat as can be.  A slight bit of elevation on hole 7 is the only shift this course boasts.

You know what's coming here.  All 9 baskets are Marksman style with one small (maybe 6" diameter) ring of chains to hit.  On the positive side, despite showing some age, the chains are still in good shape and solid.  It seems like the chain used is a little thicker than most which helps to slow the disc if you do manage to hit.  On the downside, if you don't bullseye the hole your birdie putts are exponentially harder than a standard basket.  In the end, you should decide if this is a pro or con.  My opinion is that the baskets are a unique practice element, but not something I'd want to play a competitive round on.

In the end, Tiffin is a unique experience.  I recommend a stop.  It's definitely fun to run across and get to play a unique course like this, but if I was a local I would probably find myself playing other Coralville area courses.
