Pros:
A lovely green space with enough trees and distance for a fun round.
-Atmosphere: Right in the heart of downtown Peachtree City. The course plays up and back a flat stretch of meadow with trees and a creek, making it feel simultaneously village-like and secluded. There's also a cool shot on (4) that throws under a cart bridge.
-Shot Shaping/Gameplay: Nine interesting holes making use of the trees. Distance ranges from sub-200' to about 360', and every hole requires some manner of shaping--primarily straight shots and right-turning shots. The holes are very birdieable, but not so easy as to be boring, since a misfire will often drop you straight down in front of whatever tree you hit.
-Navigation: Despite the absence of signage, navigation is a breeze. Each tee is obvious from the previous basket, with the exception of (7), where you have to tee off from the cart path at the top of the hill.
-"Friendly": My label for the combination of easy-to-play, navigable without a map, well kept up, and hard-to-lose-discs.
Cons:
-Amenities: The baskets are acceptable single-chains. That's about it. No signage whatsoever exists any more. Tee pads are rubber but pretty slick with dirt, and too small for any kind of run-up (which weaker arms will want for the longest holes). I saw one bench, which was in the middle of fairway (1).
-Flatness: Only one moment of any elevation change, which is throwing from the top of the hill on (7).
-Overlap: Because the course plays up and back along the same stretch, there's a high probability that some of these fairways will bleed into each other. More dangerous, tee pads are usually inside the circle of the previous hole. I doubt the course holds more than 2 or 3 groups safely.
-Variety: Although I really like the style of Village Green, it could get monotonous. I personally thought nine holes was just about right. However, in terms of ratings, the lack of variety holds it back.
-Golf Carts: I had to stop more than once when residents drove their golf carts along a bordering path. Just expect a couple of short delays, since the city is built around that mode of transportation.
Other Thoughts:
What a great course for Peachtree City. It fits in perfectly (as long as it's not busy), and provides a leisurely round for both beginners and experienced players. The bad tees and safety issues keep it from a 2.5, but it's one of my favorite nine-holers yet and makes a nice diversion.
-Parking: Most of the time the parking lot of the Presbyterian church is a good place to park. While you're out, you can cross the street and enjoy a nice lake view if you'd like.
