Pros:
My Three Pros:
- All the good course essentials are here. Excellent signs with mud scrapers attached, nice baskets and massive teepads. Benches at most holes. Several holes have man-made hills or wooden poles making obstacles or mandos. There's a big map at the start, large parking lot and bathrooms at the start. The course plays through a disc golf only area, though there is also a big dog park adjacent to the course.
- Long open holes. Much like most of the Denver area this course is wide open but the holes are much longer on average here than anywhere else around giving players to really air their drives out with little risk. This is truly a bombers course where a specific line is seldom forced. A few of the holes have mozzarella sticks near the basket or mandos added to add to the difficulty (and safety). Par is marked on the signs for rec level players so most holes over 400ft are marked par 4, the 700+ holes is marked par 5. The course makes good use of the elevation change in the park and has plenty of uphill, downhill and flat holes.
- A little further out of town so not quite as busy as most of the Denver courses. The course can play pretty quickly most of the time so long as your discs dont find the tall grass.
Cons:
My Three Cons:
- The course is wide open like most Denver area courses so windy days are very windy and hot days get pretty hot. As mentioned in the pros, the course is wide open so a specific line is not usually required.
-Some of the holes play pretty close to each other and including some that are protected by mandos which seems unnecessary in such a large park.
- Grass can get pretty high off the fairways in warmer months leading to some searching and slowdowns.
Other Thoughts:
Perhaps the biggest con for me mentally is that this course is called WestCREEK while there is no creek anywhere in play, AND there is a new course somewhat nearby called WestFORK that has a creek in play on almost every hole - I can not keep the two straight and always refer to each by the wrong name.
Nonetheless, I really enjoy playing this course as it usually plays nice and quick and is a nice change to just bomb drive after drive. The course is well taken care of and seems to usually get shovelled in the winter and mowed in the summer. Some may not like the open holes as it can play as a hyzer fest but the course has its place and is a fun play. I measured just about 3.25 miles of walking and average a little over an hour typically.
