New Rit Formula = No Dying Discs

Batch Number Clarification: The first three numbers of the batch are the day of the year it was produced, and the last two are the year, so 17510 is the 175th day of 2010.
Rit told me to look for boxes up to early 2010.

kcoates were both of those liquid?

yes sir both liquid.
full batch numbers 06911 black 05710 wine

Man.. Now that they're OOP Im gonna trade them for some discs! hahah.. I say it as a joke but its only a matter of time..

Thanks for all the great info about the batch numbers.. That is a great tip!

I just went to Joann Fabrics and bought up a few extra. They were all behind with the new stuff in front. They obviously don't rotate their stock.

I just found my Kelly Green was ND.. I'm so bummed :( also a black which I had suspected was crap so no surprise there.. on the top it says the "MADE IN USA ND" on the liquid stuff, not sure where it'll say on the powder since it's stamped

Rit Dye wrote: "You can find the "ND" on the caps of Rit liquid bottles and on the pouch inside the box of the powder dye. Sorry, the latter is a little awkward for scouring the retail shelves. You might want to ask your retailer for help with that. Also, ordering online is the other option and requesting the older formula. OK, let me know if you have more questions and when I get more info will post it here on FB."

ok so now we have to open all the boxes, that should be fun... FUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCKKKKKKKK! :( this is some serious bs, time to go see if my earlier hoarding today is for naught.. I tried for all 10's so I should be ok

I second this...just used liquid Wine 28410 and it took just fine. My local Safeway has a ton of xxx10 and I plan on going over there today and hitting them hard and fast.

:hfive:

Ask them to check in the back as well. Grocery stores don't sell Rit very fast or order it very often. They may have some sitting in backstock.

I've always stood right in the aisle and opened the boxes. We had an open pouch in the box dump in the 4Runner. Luckily it vacuumed up and didn't get wet.

I'm bummed by all this but really glad we are all starting to get a grasp of what the hell is going on. See you all on the next episode of Hoarders. :p

yup... theres ND on a Petal Pink and one of my Fuschias (09711, but not 06811)
other than that I found all working ones

I'm perfectly happy opening boxes.. I spent a while just staring a numbers yesterday

Have setup a spreadsheet to track the effective/ineffective lots. Would be helpful if people posted if it was liquid or powder.

DAM NIT! Just went to my largest local supply and EVERYTHING liquid was XXXX11. Opened a few powders and gave up(I don't really like them anyway). I have always had back-ups, but with all the dyes I've been cranking out, this will get troublesome if these rare earth minerals that only work on polycarbonates aren't found!

I bought an obscene amount today and need to do the same thing now.

well, just went through the boxes, most of them I couldn't even read, the ink was all blurry or on a few are missing any kind of ink

I will probably end up with far more dye than I need. If anyone needs some and can't find the old stuff, I can send some at cost.

:) thanks maansmit.. I do think we all found out about this in enough time to do some serious hoarding, I feel sorry for anyone trying to get into dyeing in another couple of months when the majority of usable dye is no longer available at the stores

Crazy stuff. Online petition in order? I mean, even asking for a few colors to be specifically made that way would better than none, right?
