Many of us like to introduce people to the game. In your opinion, what is the best first disc? Weight range, plastic, model?

I'm not talking about the best beginner disc, because that, in my mind, could be quite different. I'm talking first time throwing, first time on the course, and you have to give a brand new player one disc they will use the entire round. Do you consider the person's size, strength, and athletic abilities, or is there simply that ONE disc that every player should start with?

I almost always give new people a neutral midrange in the 160ish weight range. Something like a shark is perfect, it's easy to control, doesn't fade hard for a shorter thrower, and is rounded enough to putt with too.

My vote goes to a SS Magic if it has to be just one disc. I don't think it's a good habit to start off putting with a midrange or otherwise, just my personal opinion.

DX leopard - It will at least allow that person to attempt to put a few out there if they are coordinated at all.

I was given a DX Eagle my first time around and I was at UW Parkside. My, was that a rough round. Too many tunnels.

It's usually an old DX Shark 169g. I'll give them that and a backup soft wizard for putting. I got a friend hooked who used to never leave his house. Now he goes out playing every day. I gave him a three disc set I put together and that served him for the first two months. Soft Magnet, TM Fuse, and a beat champ eagle. He's taking three and fours on holes that were fives and sixes just a month ago. He's doubled his distance. He's going to be beating me soon.

That is just the way it goes! :) I got my GF started and she liked forehand so had to give her Eagles at first. Now she likes backhand but can still throw forhand so she has more choices for shots then I do so I expect her to beat up on my by the end of next summer!

The Innova starter pack is great, but the Aviar it comes with is 150 grams or so. That's like putting with a paper plate.
I wish they made the weights in the pack a bit heavier.
I agree with Mashnut. A stable midrange is the way to go.

Supercolor Buzzz in about the 165g range. Ive gotten a few people hooked on DG with that one. Its fairly neutral, big enough in diameter that it feels somewhat familiar to someone who has only thrown Frisbees before. Also its got all those crazy bright colors and cool art. So that hypnotizes them.

I can tell you three discs NOT to give new players (yet I see them all the time on the course with a new player throwing it -

Wolf, Blizzard Boss, Groove
