What course won't you play alone?

There's a 9 hole course outside the Flint, MI YMCA... I didn't feel comfortable playing it with 3 other people and honestly, you couldn't pay me to play it alone.

I've played a few rounds in sketchy neighborhoods (as my reviews will attest), but none so sketchy that I wouldn't play there alone in the middle of the day. I wouldn't play Rum Village or East Tacoma in the early evening hours though.

The only course I would never play alone would be Spirit Ridge, and that's because it's a private course and I CAN'T play it alone. That place is so wild that I wouldn't play it alone at night, but wouldn't be too concerned during the day. I'm just not as afraid of cougars and bears as I should be I guess.

Fredericksen in Pouslbo WA. One word. Cats. Cougars scare the sh** out of me and don't want your money. Wait, some do actually ;)

Found drugs at Mt. Airy last summer. Will play again. (I ground it into the dirt and leaves)
I passed on playing a course near Sarasota, FL, because this dumb Hoosier don't know much about gators, and they were mentioned in a review.

Sugaw is I think the only good course in Charlotte that I haven't played yet because of its reputation. It just fell to the bottom of the list. Boyd Hill I've heard lots of bad things about, a local that guided me around Winthrop Lake front told me he wouldn't play there alone. The only courses I've played that would qualify here are Barber Park, Greensboro and Mazarick, Fayetteville. Neither would I want to play alone at dusk, but I have done that at Barber and never had any problems. They just don't scream safe area.

Sugaw in Charlotte is scary.
The first time I played it alone, never again. That neigborhood is just seedy.

Boyd Hill(?), Rock Hill, SC. Our club president was robbed there.

Reedy Creek never scared me, but it's always crowded when I've played there.

Sugaw's not too bad during the day, often there's a cop in the parking lot. That area's not as dangerous as it was back when the Hidden Valley Kings were still in their heyday...but I did recently see some "living quarters" inside the big magnolia tree on #10.

There's a course I'll need to try and find on here, I don't have the time at the moment, maybe somebody can prerube it for me...

It's along the I-85 corridor between Charlotte and Atlanta. I've never played it, because at least 3 reviewers on here mentioned getting "hassled" by some dudes impersonating Sheriff deputies, with like fake, thrown together uniforms, wanting to "search the bags for drugs." Mmmmmmm no thanks.

I only played Sugaw once. It was a warm day last February and the park was packed. I didn't even think it was in a bad area (although I do remember hearing something about that). I felt completely safe. I actually dropped my smartphone somewhere on hole 9 or 10 and didn't even realize it until a few holes later when some guys were going group to group behind us asking if anyone dropped a phone. I thanked them and we kept playing on.

Rosedale in KC is not scary. It has a few teepads that if you fall off of you may die but never do I feel you would get mugged lol chicken

There's none that I've come across that I'm scared to play due to the neighborhood they're in. There are courses that are heavily wooded or exceptional long that I would would rather play with someone because of length or how wooded the course is. It is always better to have multiple sets of eyes on difficult courses.

I really enjoy playing Fly Boy but I can't imagine playing the course solo. I think a course like that is more enjoyable when you can share the experience with a friend.

Yet to see a cougar, though bear sightings are more common.

But what really makes your hair stand up on end is the "swoosh" of an owl gliding right over your head! Whooah...where'd that come from?

more on track, I know that the Pac NW still has SeaTac DGC with a notable "sketch factor" and there's been stories of (gang?) rumbles and reports of nearby shots heard during events at Lakewood DGC

I've never felt nervous about Fredericksen at all. I love that course. Not "pay $30 for a round trip ride on a ferry on a regular basis" love, but love all the same. It would get a lot more play from me if I lived over there, NAD and Bud Pell didn't exist, it wasn't a workout just to get to the first teepad with a full bag of discs, etc...

I've played SeaTac alone plenty of times and never had trouble or felt like anything sketchy was going on. Lakewood is too crowded to be scary.

Hurricane Shoals?

Ive heard a lot of bad things about kelsey scott park in Salisbury Nc but Ive never had any trouble. I think New013 about saw a gang fight erupt there.

Luther Britt park in lumbrton NC definatly had its moments when I would play there. people doing drugs in the woods and a guy who just had that look of a crackhead that would follow me around and one time just picked up a stack of discs and my bag and started walking away while I was searching the water for a friends plastic. Some shady people in that park.

I think I may hav found the trick to boyd hill. play at 9am on a saturday........I reckon crackheads dont wake up that early.

I never had any issues at Mazerick park but Bro D may have seen somthing I didnt.

I've played a lot of the courses mentioned in this thread, and a lot more that were in "bad" neighborhoods. I've never felt unsafe playing a disc golf course during the day because of a neighborhood or the people on or around the course. Sure, there are lots of courses I wouldn't play alone after dark, but I also didn't walk around my neighborhood in Chicago after dark.

Actually Sugaw is much safer because of the course being there.....which I believe was a key selling point to getting the course expanded from the original 9-er. This story might attest to that.

I was working on lopping the underbrush on hole 4 - the hole that runs right along the parking lot a few feet into the woods. This guy (seemed like a local to the area if you catch my drift) came up to me and started mumbling almost unintelligibly I think he was asking about if I was hiring for park maintenance. Things did not seem quite right, so I walked with him the few feet into the open by the parking lot.

As I do this, he is trying to keep me facing away from the main road....but he did not manage to do that and I see a car parked close to the edge of the fairway and a younger guy back in the woods near the tee area rummaging in a "drag pile" of cut limbs. I did not suspect they were together, but after a bit, this younger guy walks/limps out of the woods and the guy I am talking to heads to the car. As the young guy climbs in the car I see him pull a shotgun out of his pants (the reason for his limp) and they speed off. A moment later a cop pulls into the lot.....but he was not after them - in fact he did not seem too interested in me telling him the story.

I was supposed to clear out all the underbrush between the fairway and road.....but as a lefty, those bushes keep the natural bounce off trees from going OB into the road/parking lot, so I never did. I guess those bushes still provide a nice hiding place for trouble-makers checking out the parked cars.....

All that said, I have played many many rounds at Sugaw alone during the daytime and have never encountered any issues or felt threatened.
