Can Scott Stokely compete in the Open division against McBeth & Wysocki in 2015?

Sure he can: just needs to play Open and get grouped with them for the first round. :D

Can he be competitive (hang with them) for an entire tournament? Guess we'll find out.

Watch the maple hill this year if you want to see joe play with the best. He was one stroke off tied for second. If it weren't for rickys incredible feild ace he would have been right there.

Struggle a bit? I don't think Stokely hit a single putt in that round save for relative drop-ins.

Though, in fairness to Scott, it should be noted that he was 18 back of RR at the start of the round, and has always said that he found it hard to get up and maintain concentration during final 9 showcases where he had no shot of catching the leaders. (He's wasn't the first, and certainly wasn't/isn't the last player for whom that's true.)

Not that it necessarily would have made those putts if he were up there battling it out, but it might have made for shorter/easier putts if he'd made better/safer drives and upshots.

Nope. Why do you think the young studs are as good as they are?

No wife.

No kids.

ALL the time in the world to throw discs all day.

And disc golf IS their full time job.

I don't think you're even arguing the right point here. If anything, you're giving more credence to my point that Joe Rovere isn't the elite level of player. I was arguing the contention that he is an elite level player simply because he does well locally and does okay nationally but is elite because he has a job and a baby. In this argument, his profession and child are not relevant because we are talking simply about skill.

Anyway, Scott Stokely can make it to the top of the second tier but he likely won't be among the elite. But if JOHN E McCray taught us anything, it's that age really is nothing but a number.

And how much more would he be able to hone his skills if he had no wife and kids. (I do see what you're saying though)

I said nothing about Scott quitting. If I were to bet money on this I would bet against Scott going against the top pros. Number of reasons for that, one being he hasn't been on the tour like the others have. Climo has been playing all this time and he can't beat the top pros, why would someone who has not been playing all this time be able to beat them?

My comment was nothing about Scott quitting. :)

The "Quitting" reference was saying that anybody trying to beat McBeth should quit since they could not possibly beat him. You don't want to play if you don't have a chance to win right? I'm gonna take my Frisbees and go home!

According to this thread...Scott wont be able to hang. I say good for him that he has the balls to get out there and try to make it happen for himself, for a second run at being a "Pro".

Speculation is just that...speculation.

And how much more would he be able to hone his skills if he had no wife and kids. (I do see what you're saying though)

Impossible to say or to quantify. If you've ever met or see Joe Rovere he looks like an athlete. Moreso than a lot of disc golfers. I'm sure he maximizes what training time he has. But practice doesn't always make someone better. Crazy, I know. It's just a totally impossible thing to factor in. Look at Steve Brinster. His wife and baby twins were what gave him the fire to win USDGC. Everyone's situation is different.

Which why it's crazy to think one way or the other about Scott Stokely. He might roar out the gate this year and win a World title. Or he may fizzle. Probably somewhere in between. I say as long as he's having fun, then more power to him!

Small world...turns out I've played 2 tourneys with him the past few months. lol... He played open, I played mg1. I averaged 9 strokes back from him per round. I watched a recent video of him playing, his game looks solid enough. Definitely needs to dial in his putting.

Is there a single grandmaster+ aged player competing with the top pros? Are any of our legends like Crazy or Greenwell or Hosfeld or the likes competing with the top pros today?

Is this really a serious question?

YES! Yes there is a single grandmaster+ aged player competing with the top pros.

double dipping on /r/discgolf and on here I see ...

Gotta commend the OP on some great viral marketing!

I wish them the best of luck but....

To question if a 40+ year old who's been away from the game that long is going compete with the 2 best players in the world is ludicrous. If Scott breaks the top 50 in world rankings, that would be a huge accomplishment. I suspect he'll win a few open tournaments this year but not make any kind of noise at any national events. After a couple years or the failure of the disc line he'll disappear again.

At least the hair can be dyed back, but those tattoos...

I commend Scott and Flygreen for bringing attention to their new disc line. Everyone I've met from this camp have been great people and I wish them success. I just don't see it happening though. The whole brand has been ill conceived. I would have more hope for them had they recruited an up and coming local and have a product that could be marketed to kids.

That's why I got "DISC GOLF" tattooed across my knuckles. It's my wedding ring to the sport. It's a promise that I will NEVER leave her again.

I'll let you decide...

Well now that Stokely is back I hope to see the MPM division really become its own entity. I think it would be great to see some of the old rivalries reignite.
