[Help] Accurate Fairway for 300' Thrower

I'll contend that the 5th run C-FD's are actually less LSS than the prior 3rd & 4th runs (and based on the descriptions of each on the DM store site, they agree).

I actually find the 5th run C-lines to be similar to the S-lines, which I simply don't care for. 3rd/4th run FD's all day long for that bit of high speed turn and reliable fade!

On line reviews are an option as well. I go to allthingsdiscgolf.com sometimes if I am on the fence.

MVP Volt has been throwing pretty straight for me. Got it in the Proton plastic if that matters. Great disc.

To be honest there's not that much room between the River, FD, and gummy Teebird you have. Yes there are small increments that may work for you slightly better...but those are 3 good discs that go from understable (River), to stable (FD, has some wiggle), and stable/overstable (the Teebird). When I was at that distance a Pro Leopard and DX Teebird both worked great, I think the DX Teebird was pretty much perfect but it does beat in. If you want to get another disc then I would recommend DX Teebird.

The best answer is to work on your form a bit...you're probably strong arming and that's why everything is going 300' max. If you learn to use your body more and arm less, and get your fairways out to ~320', then you'll be able to drop any of those 3 discs straight ahead of you at 300', with slight differences in release angle between them.

If you have wind to contend with, I would suggest a mid to heavy 160's weight Dymanic Discs Escape. No wind, I would suggest a Mid 170's OPTO River, OR Maul. Good luck!

I want a disc that I can put a touch of hyzer on and it will stand up and go straight, maybe turn to the right just a bit and come back to center or just left of center.

It's clear from this statement that you're looking for an understable disc. However the heading of your post says you're looking for an accurate disc. Philosophically, I think its almost impossible to achieve consistent accuracy (especially from 300' away) using an understable disc. If you're looking for an understable fairway disc get a Leopard or a TL. If you're looking for an accurate fairway disc, get a Teebird or an Eagle.

A low profile high plh C-fd would be the 2nd runs, which are getting harder to come by(board flat, bubbles in rim, drastic difference in plh from standard FDs). It is quite a bit more stable than other FDs, however, mine is less of a straight shooter with a more drastic s-curve. In field work I can get it to go straighter if I power up beyond my current level of control. Currently think im maxing out around 270'ish but its been about a month since I threw at a field with goalposts to estimate distance. Might be a little too beefy for me to handle now. My g-line FD had started a Lil more over stable than my go to straight FD . But it has broken in to a little less than stable after 4 rounds of primary driver use and 3-5 tree hits. Soon it will be able to reliably hyzer flip and I will go back to line driving with the C line.

Interesting. I've only thrown my 5th run in the field next to a broken in 3rd run, the 5th was a little more stable; I can see where you are coming from(fresh vs new). I'd actually read somewhere that the 5ths were a Lil beefier and just thought my 5th(that you helped me confirm as a 5th) must be slightly irregular for the run. But knowing your contributions to the FD thread I'd take your opinion over other second hand run/plastic comparisons I've seen.

Makes such sense now, I remember being confused by the flight not matching what id read described. ..even after confirming via plastic feel it is a 5th.

C-FD or Opto River are both excellent straight fairways out of the box. I have always found Rivers to be much more sensitive than FDs, and they have a bit more lateral movement for me. The stiff JL 5th runs are my favorite, but the 3rd/4th runs are also very nice.

I threw Leopards for quite a few years and had an older champ that was beat to perfection (unfortunately I perforated the top of that one on a black locust tree and the dude never flew right after that). The pro Leo may be too squirrely at your power, but if you can find a used champ Leo you would probably dig it.

Also you might just want to get a 168-172 Opto River. They fly like what you want even at higher arm speeds.

I'll have to 2nd this. Even at the same weight, all 170-172, my 2 Opto Rivers flew much better and straighter than my Gold Line and had better glide. The Opto's had more HSS and less LSS than my gold line. I have liked every disc better in Opto than Gold line, except for my Pole Dance Gold Striker, but it's really between a Striker and XXX. The Leopard is the only other disc I've thrown that has nearly the same flight, star and pro plastic, havn't tried champ.

I don't keep a River in the bag anymore, mostly because my Core, Striker, and Vision cover any shot I would ever use it for, and I've been throwing them for ~10 years and have 3-4 of each cycled from new to beat.

I don't know what you throw for mids, but if you already throw a Buzzz, then a Stalker would fly just like a longer Buzzz for you most likely. I know it does for me. MVP's Volt and Amp are 2 amazing discs worth checking out.

But really I'll agree with an earlier posted who sad to try out some of your friends discs and see what works best for you. They might have something you really like. If that's not an option try and buy a couple cheap ones off the marketplace here and see which one you like best.

Sounds like we throw about the same distance. I bag these fairway drivers and love all of them (from shortest to longest)...

Champ Leopard - this disc has been in my bag for years and the flight characteristics haven't changed. It holds any line you put on it.

GStar Leopard - added this to my bag because I love the Champion version so much. I get the same out of this disc.

VIP Stag - this disc is a must-have. It's very long, predictable, straight, with a hyzer fade every single time. Excellent overstable fairway driver.

Lucid Escape - it goes where you tell it to and has glide for miles. It has dislodged my distance drivers from my bag because I can throw it just as far.

Tournament Hatchet - I got this disc as the understable complement to the overstable Stag and stable Escape, but I started using it for distance drives too and have been getting it even further than the Escape. It has a wide turn at high speed, then a predictable fade back, not quite to straight. It's great for annies and wide fairway drives to take advantage of a long, S-curve flight.

I would suggest a Axiom Crave and an Axiom Inspire. If more stability is needed Axiom Clash, less stability MVP Relay. I actually run Clash, Crave, Relay and it is about the most perfect fairway set up I have ever thrown. The Relay is the closest thing to a good champ leopard that I have found, and may even be better than a leopard. The Crave is dead straight with moderate fade for me. The Clash has a tiny bit of wiggle to the right, but some serious lss at the end.

I think I already know the answer to this question, but do they make non-plus mold Rivers? That would be sweet.

My most reliable disc is a 168g DX Teebird. I should throw it almost exclusively except for putt and approach, but it's so much fun trying different discs. I also like my River, Pro-Leopard, Champion TL and Eagle.

Eagle or a Stalker.

Eagle - Shapes lines nicely, consistent flight in all plastics, reliable fade. I like my Eagles in Champ plastic.
Stalker - A bit straighter than the eagle, good for hyzer flips, can handle low or high power. Ti Stalkers are a bit more OS/beefy, Crystal Z stalkers are more fun to throw :p
